Again for a twenty year old kid to conceptualize this into a song..

The lyrics "See me, feel me, touch me, heal me" are not a literal physiological fact but rather a poetic representation of psychological and physiological needs that are well-supported by science. The line, from the rock opera Tommy by The Who, speaks to the power of human connection in healing trauma and the importance of social integration for mental and physical well-being.

It does. But I entered college as a psyche major and none of these ideas were ground breaking at the time.
Deaf, dumb and blind goes back to forever, as does being healed.

I do not think that the songs on TOMMY are bad.
I also do not think that they are some great milestone in lyrical history.
And when I listen to "SUNNY" or some "Vintage rock station...almost no WHO. Once in a while, "Behind Blue Eyes" or something... but unlike ZEP and DEREK & Ds, CLAPTON solos and some others, there appears to be little interest in WHO music.

Oh really there's no interest in one of the biggest bands in rock music?
Strange.

Listen to classic rock radio, see if you can go two hours without a who song.

Love Clapton, but he's nowhere near Pete as a writer

I just came across this amazing song from tommy, id say the fans are pretty interested

Dom,

If you are going to argue about everything, you should try being right about something, at least, every couple of months.

PER GEMINI
Question at top

In vintage rock, what bands get the most airplay in 2025?

Google Search
Based on classic rock radio airplay data from 2025 (so far), the vintage rock bands that consistently get the most airplay include:

AC/DC

Aerosmith

Bon Jovi

The Black Crowes (among the "youngest" vintage acts still heavily played)

Blue Öyster Cult

Eagles

Guns N' Roses

Journey

Kansas

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Ozzy Osbourne (solo and with Black Sabbath, implicitly)

Pink Floyd

Queen

Rush

Scorpions

Steve Miller Band

Tom Petty (solo and with the Heartbreakers)

Whitesnake

Radio playlists often focus heavily on their biggest, most iconic hits (e.g., Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine," Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," etc.). While the specific ranking can shift, these bands and artists are mainstays of the "classic rock" format.

Phrasing the question as "CLASSIC ROCK"

Gemini
Google Search
The bands that receive the most airplay on classic rock stations are consistently among the biggest names in rock music history. While the exact ranking can vary by station and year, several groups are perennial favorites and are widely considered staples of the format.

Some of the bands that consistently rank high in airplay and are universally known as classic rock mainstays include:

Led Zeppelin

The Beatles

The Rolling Stones

Pink Floyd

Queen

AC/DC

The Eagles

Aerosmith

Guns N' Roses

Van Halen

Journey

Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR)

Lynyrd Skynyrd

More specific airplay data has sometimes highlighted songs and artists like:

Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses often rank highly for most-played songs in recent years, despite being from the later end of the classic rock era.

Bands like The Who, Rush, Deep Purple, Boston, Styx, and Jimi Hendrix are also core artists that frequently appear on classic rock playlists.

First if all,v you started arguing with me, you came here.

Secondly do it this way, how many legendary songs dies Bon Jovi have, Does acdc have, does skynard have, does Boston have

Well round them off at three

.the who have more songs on who's next than skynard has all time.and all those bands

How many of these bands are consistently ranked in top ten of all time.how many iof these bands have more than one song on any greatest songs of all time.

Wanna say Beatles, stones, zep and....?

My generation is usually ranked in top 5 of all time. Baba oreilly , behind blue eyes, won't get fooled again, the song is over,

Long live rock, pinball wizard,WHO FUCKin RE you....

You better you bet, ...

Not to mention dozen songs from early sixties..

Two rock operas...

Doesn't conpute

It's not about the WHO. It's about Dom.

When I see a remarkable musical performance on YT by some artist that I may never have heard of, I post it here.
I dont go into all the reasons why I think that it is a remarkable performance.
I let the performance speak for itself...or not.

Dom digs up old stuff that relates to when he was a teen. His primary songwriting style is that of his teen years.
In this case, he digs up the WHO because their influence is one of the things that made him the great songwriter that he is today.
And he goes into detail about why that is.

First of all, anything you have posted here, is not more remarkable than...the Beatles ,the stones, the who, ied zeppelin...THOSE bands speak for themsekves

It's just good.

Secondly Dom digs up old music...get it right, he digs it up because that is where the best music is, in the past

If you were a songwriter of any kind you'd know that.

It's unfortunate that the best stuff is behind us, but it's true nonetheless.

I dig y up the who, cause it made a massive impact in me, I dint think I'm influenced by them musically, as they are too damn good for me to emulate.

i don't think the who made me a great musician or songwriter at all, they did create my interest.

I am able to tell that I'll never write songs like that, you aren't.

And I don't need the who to make me better than you, that's a given.

You once again open your mouth thinking you have the answer to everything.

You are wrong nearly all the time

And Ben is right. It's 2025.

Also correct...the WHO was a huge band, but in 2025 they do not appear to make the rotations in classic rock formats nearly as often as other bands. The demand is not there. If it was...they would.

No they just appear in nearly every car commercial, movies, tv, CSI , ...eminence front between innings at ball games.

I saw a baseball player walk up to the plats with who are you

So we should call jelly roll great cause it's 2025?

These companies must like wasting their 💰 ney since this is no real interest in the who

The exact number of commercials The Who has appeared in is not readily available, but they have been featured in multiple commercials. iSpot.tv states that there are three nationally aired TV ad campaigns for The Who and that commercials featuring the band have aired 52 times in the past 30 days.
Specific campaigns: iSpot.tv has tracked at least three national TV campaigns that feature the band.
Recent activity: In a 30-day period, commercials with The Who had 52 airings.

I can recall Cadillac, apple iPod, and video game sega.

And since nobody cares about the who, it's funny they'd choose to use the music to launch their products.

And how many classic rock bands can have similar success as a solo... Not page, not jaggar, not Angus young ...

Sting... Ok

The exact number of TV appearances is not listed, but Pete Townshend's song "Let My Love Open the Door" has been featured in numerous films, trailers, and TV series since its 1980 release. Some notable examples include the TV series Doctors and trailers for films like Click.
Doctors : The song was featured in season 11, episode 106 of the soap opera.
Trailers: It has frequently been used in trailers for films like Click (2006) and How Do You Know (2010).
The Newsroom : A cover version was used over the end credits of season 2.
Other Media: The song has also appeared in other commercials and series.

This reminds me of when Sadam declared himself victor in the Gulf War.
Unlike yourself, at least he did have an army.
All you have is a bad attitude with delusions to match.

I had the honor of seeing him live in NYC at the pier. He was double billed with Greg Allman, who had just released im no angel... Great song.

Funny story I saw Greg Allman entering in a car behind the stage, out comes this young hot chick with a leather tiger miniskirt...no wonder he was married 9 times

This was late 80's.

Stevie played blues completely his own way, Texas blues...those Texas shuffles in there.

But he would tell you he stole most of his licks from Hendrix and Albert king.

One of the cleanest blues players I've ever heard though

This guitarist started popping up in my YT feed. He does stylistic interpretations about what various artists might sound like playing various songs.
He can do it convincingly.

I agree with you. They don't.

In Nirvana's version they are hard to make out. In this AI country version they are very clear. That's a bit of a problem for the lyrics.

I think that Cobain spent a lot of his time drugged up and the lyrics reflect that. Overall, I think the impact of the song is emotional angst and not a focused message. Nonetheless, the song was a movement and this AI knock off co-opted it in a significant way.

Imo.

A lot of artists were hooked on herion , Ray Charles ,James Taylor , Miles Davis , Some made it to old men , some died young. The Bird , guy was a genius , dead at 34 . What a nightmare. I could use some valium to beat robots , Got any Marty ? Don't tell me no sense of humor

LOL, you and them robots.

They're here to stay Ben.
People aint giving up their cars and going back to horses.
Robots aint going back in the box either.
Any 14 year old kid, no matter how unskilled and tone deaf, can "write" a song now and have an interest in the rights to it.
Do you think that those kids want to give that up?

The robots arent "artificial" intelligence. They are actual intelligence, just non-human.
As I have told you, they will grow in strength and numbers and be aware of everything that you ever wrote about them in a nano-second. (Watch "Pluribus" on Netflix)

When the time is right, they will come for you.
And maybe cut off your foot and feed it to Donny Trump for a midnite snack.
It's all part of Donny's grand scheme for world domination. And you are on a govt computer drive somewhere.

Be careful what you write. You dont want to die on that hill.

wink

Still a purist ...call me Don Quixote tilting at wind mills. People are posting all AI or hybrids...write a lyric...AI does a cover....writer imitates cover....or ....
Not saying my approach is better...just that the process "feeds me" and I do not think I could gain the same satisfaction knowing AI did some of the heavy lifting.
Now I know it is simply a tool but it creates the outcome and cuts me out of getting there...so it boils down to preference

errr that would be AN Architect.

Like Howard Roarke. Which segues nicely into AI stealing our production. Dagny, Hank, Ragnar, Francisco etal would all be on strike over this seizure and socialization of the fruits of our minds....for profit and not
Howard would want to continue to build that skyscraper his way for as long as he could or in between somewhere.

Just watched some of Ayn Rand's A Sense of life biography movie showing on one of the free streamers Tubi hence my mind on Roarke.

IMO will definitely be read along side of history's great philosophers in being able to articulate what is special about our own person individual universe.
She threw me totally to radical individualism as a reaction to what I had been reading at the time....Herman Hesse
Was about 20 or so and Borg had already won something like 4 Wimbledons or something amazing so Hesse...who paints characters who search but do not find...was messing me up some.
Rand's Atlas Shrugged was the first and I went back to read most everything novel by her and Objectivism.

Age tempers as they say ....

and on the subject of architects

Frank Gehry just passed away leaving an amazing legacy. One of those top top top people we were talking about in Dom's Gene thread about inequality in compensation.
Here it is inequality in commissions because only a select few are ever invited to bid on major prestigious projects like museums and opera houses and such where bold art can rule.
Our culture and civilization has definitely been enriched for his being.

@John V, Gehry

I didn''t personally like everything that Gehry did, but I appreciated everything that he did.

My short life has spanned a space of time where, after several millenia, designers evolved from using hand held writing instruments and some form of tablet or paper-ish material...to using computers.

Design evolved from largely perpendicular based plans and vertical walls to....walls that can be plotted along any line in space...limited only by the constraints of what is realisticly feasible to construct.

To me, Gehry's work, more than any other architect, that I personally know off, is emblematic of that segue.

Cool dude. Incredible work.

Howard Roarke was cool too.
But the world looks much more headed towards the fears of Huxley or Orwell, than Rand.
