Well, I’m a guest ! Ha.

Actually, music, it’s a puzzle to me, but, overtime, I can solve bits of it, and, amusement is achieved. My own.

But sharing has its benefits, and amateur music folk have scads of content to offer, and song forums inspire….so…

Two songs from this website, I will work, in my amateur way, and repost here, in this thread:

Dancin’ Neath the the Moon tonight by Tony/japov

Musical Drifter by Dave Gill

Note: both these writers are frequent posters at jpfolks.com.

"What I Do When I'm Not Here"

I like to COOK!
This morning I had tater-tots and eggs over easy for breakfast.
Skipped lunch...
Gonna' cook some ribs and make some slaw for dinner.
Because I also like to EAT!

😋

This is the creative challenge place after all. I don’t know what I will do yet…part of the fun. I like an acoustic guitar. The wood vibration. Simple. One two notes can be symphonic. So I go adrift with it.

Your title. Then the intro/first verse. Now I’m hooked.

Gary Andrews mentioned movements in music composing, yeah, I thought, easier said, but epiphany…..your first verse as a gateway movement.

A beginning.

Whossa that’s a jolt. Snappy synaps happening
the docs will no doubt conclude.

Did you see Netflix’s first episode season 7 of ‘Black Mirror’ ? An ai patch in the brain, cured all, but the corp keeps upping the subscription price, aftercare! LOL.

Yeah so what I do when I’m not here.

My son, now 30 yr, was diagnosed schizophrenic at 17. My wife got him signed up with Friends of Music, an organization close hospital connected, and saved his life, no less.

The organization has an entire auditorium/stage, all music equipment and sound system, 6 professional musician music directors, and is open to those with mental illness and families, to join in the fun and adventure of full music experience as a means of healing and recovery.

My son and wife and daughter are members of the rock band, the jazz improve group, the ukulele ensemble, beginner band, skills band, and fundamentals group. It’s a blast. Very helpful to us as a family.

Me too! I make smash burgers, pizza, and slow cook pot roast. Unfortunately, getting out to the gym to burn calories isn't as easy as it used to be....puts a damper on things.

I sang the song for fun, not even knowing who Mack the K was. I just looked it up. he was a killer in the underworld that managed to escape getting caught...by the grim R!!

Here is my chart:

Musical Drifter

acoustic guitar + vocal
sounds like Sarah Jaros
harmonica or slide guitar possible solo
irish folk, singer songwriter genre.
gotta figure out the chords first.

Hey Elvis,
Kicking around a graveyard is not so bad. There is a deeper reverence, something in the silence? No lightning bolts…but what’s in the swirling mist there. Oh best off to madam x and her jangling prophesy, tickle my silly bone brain to higher creative heights.

I listened to my work tape this am on Tony’s, and didn’t like parts. Dang. unravel redo. Time. Where does it take me?

Okay. Tony’s Dancin Neath the Moon, first iteration done, and posted in mp3 forum. Full disclosure. I grabbed some musical ideas from suno…but my take is so un-AI…meh…mp3 forum. Not done w it yet. Ben and Tony let me off the hook, but I want to tear the music done, and do it all again. It’s a nice lyric.

But now I am on to Dave’s Musical Drifter. I expect it will remain in AI forum.

Well suno is like listening to albums for ideas . Just faster and it's directed on your song not someone else's . A direct correlation what works on your song. Not stolen licks from the Beatles that producers do for a song lol

True.

But it’s the learning too. Understanding, at least in part, how the Beatles invented that lick and its use in the song…sparks its own invention.

Hey Dave. I pulled the suno song into my recorder. It now occupies track one and two, stereo.

It took me awhile to figure out the chords. I have gotten better at this, even from my participation on JPF….the Name That Tune thread…lol…got me started on it. Sigh. How far l’ve come.

Anyway, suno song is in the key of Bb. It’s that first chord. Bb. I figured out the next chord in the intro, Cm….but hit a wall after that.

So I put a capo on the first fret, turning the Bb to an A chord…..yes. The chords started to pop out…Bm, D, E, F#m.

From there, I got out my trusty ‘Wheel of Fifths’ chart…..and determined the intro is….

I, vi, V, I

And the verse is…

I, vi, IV, V, I

FUN!

Now I can take the capo off, and use the Bb chords that correspond….Bb, Cm, Gm, Bb for the intro, etc.

Or….pick a key that fits my vocal range.

Hmmm..what other problems? I don’t play violin or penny whistle…hmm…maybe slide, or harmonica, or even uku.

Hey Bill,

This is amazing to see your progression! Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone!
I look forward to hearing your rendition (no matter key it falls in) :-)

Peace,

Dave

I want to duplicate this music YouTube short with my current set up drums, bass, and electric guitar as my next challenge.

It challenges both music creation and recordist skill. And is a genre of music I really like.

Thanks Dave! I enjoyed the attempt. The AI version, of course, is hugely superior, but I enjoyed the exercise, and in doing, it brought greater appreciation of your lyric writing and the fabulous resource that is Suno and other ai platforms. Hopefully with agreements signed, artists will be able to get some money for their work as well

You have been respectively adaptive to the changing landscape…recreating yourself, but staying the same as you ever were, producing some entertaining content. Good stuff. I always look for your latest, always above average, and creative.

I guess I get a little angry over AI songs , I'm not sure why I just record them with session players and recording studios . Probably cuz I have friends in Nashville , Not looking good. Session players might dwindle to a few chosen few , Not sure , Studios might close. What was it a 10 year town ? it might be a 30 day town now
