Verse 1 Well I was born in the gutter, raised on sin, Learned real quick the devil always grins. Ain’t no sunshine on this blood-soaked track, Just whiskey on my breath and a knife in my back.
Chorus Life ain’t Mister Rogers, it don’t come with a smile, It’ll break your heart and drag you through the miles. Ain’t no neat little lessons, no neighborly song, Out here it’s whiskey and trouble that keeps you strong.
Verse 2 Got a sawed-off shotgun, ridin’ in my truck, Every mile I drive feels like runnin’ outta luck. Police lights flashin’, hounds on the trail, But I’d rather die fast than rot in a cell.
Chorus Life ain’t Mister Rogers, it don’t come with a smile, It’ll break your heart and drag you through the miles. Ain’t no neat little lessons, no neighborly song, Out here it’s whiskey and trouble that keeps you strong.
Verse 3 Well I howl at the moon with the meth-heads and fiends, Rust in my veins and fire in my dreams. This outlaw highway don’t give no rest, Just a coffin-shaped bed when I lay down my chest.
Chorus Life ain’t Mister Rogers, it don’t come with a smile, It’ll break your heart and drag you through the miles. Ain’t no neat little lessons, no neighborly song, Out here it’s whiskey and trouble that keeps you strong

So light me a smoke, pour the bourbon deep, I’ll dance with the reaper while the angels weep. And when my story’s over, don’t you sing me no hymn, Just crank up the feedback and let the chaos begin.
Chorus Life ain’t Mister Rogers, it don’t come with a smile, It’ll break your heart and drag you through the miles. Ain’t no neat little lessons, no neighborly song, Out here it’s whiskey and trouble that keeps you strong.
Life Ain’t Mister Rogers
Life Ain’t Mister Rogers
Life Ain’t Mister Rogers
We’re all built from the same dust and dreams, Different roads, but the same means.

Ben, this is one hell of a song. You’ve got grit, truth, and attitude — a raw outlaw-country anthem with strong imagery and a perfect central hook. Here are a couple of alternatives you might find interesting. Feel free to use any of them.
Instead of: Well I was born in the gutter, raised on sin, You might like this… I was born in the gutter, baptized in sin
Instead of: Police lights flashin’, hounds on the trail, But I’d rather die fast than rot in a cell. This might rhyme better… Red lights flashin’, dogs on the scent But I’d rather die free than live to repent
Instead of: Well I howl at the moon with the meth-heads and fiends, Rust in my veins and fire in my dreams. This might rhyme better… I howl at the moon with the lost and damned Rust in my veins and blood on my hands
Instead of: And when my story’s over, don’t you sing me no hymn, This might flow better… When the story’s done, don’t sing me no hymn

I like how your Lyrics stay coherently on the theme of your Songs. Life Ain't No Fairytale.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Driving into a nightmare job and there on a freeway poster was mister Rogers , kinda made me laugh. I drive by San Quentin once a week , I wonder what happened to Mister Rogers for them

He actually was the same person in real life as he was on his show. there is a whole documentary about him and he was one of the kindness people on earth to children everywhere.
If you hadn't seen Mr. Rogers, you would have never known that a life a pain wasn't a normal way to live, right? I had a pretty rough childhood, but he showed me that not everyone lives that way. Thank God!

Thank God! I'm sure he was a great guy , Your reading in to much on this song , When life hits its a nightmare , Its my voice and personality. if it was vanilla country it could have been written differently, its outlaw country

"Parents are notorious for telling you not to do something, but not telling you WHAT to do instead. So here are my thoughts. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, give it a manicure. Don't burn your bridges, go out and build more! And of course, Don't run with Scissors, use them to cut out your press clippings!" -Brian Austin Whitney
