"It's Just Money" Copyright February 12, 2019 Gary E. Andrews (Actual creation date earlier.)
D C/G G A

(Verse I)
D---------------------C/G-----------D---------------------C/G
Money don't mean nothin', to a man who's got too much!
Money gets you thinkin', you ain't got enough!
Love gets in your way, makes your life a little rough!
You start spendin' all that money! Buyin' a lot of stuff!
(Chorus Refrain)
G---------A-------------D-------C/G------D------C/G
Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Just Money!

(Verse II)
Money gives you trouble! Money pays your way out!
It's on the bar! It's in the car! It's scattered 'round the house!
Love becomes a luxury you think you'll do without!
Money makes a mystery, where income goes out!
Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Just Money!

(Bridge)
G
Don't let money get 'cha!
A
You can't take it wit'cha!
Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Just Money!

(Verse III)
One night you can't get to sleep! Your money is all gone!
You knew it wasn't yours to keep! Now you're all alone!
You traded love for happiness! You still knew right from wrong!
You settled for your circumstance! Listen to the song!
Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Just Money!

Don't let money get 'cha!
You can't take it wit'cha!
Oh! Oh! Oh! It's Just Money!

(Coda)
D
Money!
C/G-----D------C/G
It's Just Money!
Money!
It's Just Money!
Money!
It's Just Money!
D
Money! (End)

(Spoken)
It's only money.

I like this one, Gary. It's fun. :-)

My only sugg might be to change up the first verse a bit:

Money don't mean nothin', to a man who's got too much!
But love gets you to thinkin' that you ain't got enough!
Finding that right balance makes your life a little rough!
as you're spendin' all that money! Buyin' a lot of stuff!

Just a thought.

As always, KOS.

Peace,

Dave

Interesting possibilities, David.
I found 'Reporting Back' to Love in the third Line of each Verse helped me tie it all together.
The coherence of the 'money' theme was not easy to remember because of the 'Over-Repetition' of relevant concepts, relevant to money, so throwing a little 'Love' in with 'Money' seemed to help me think through it.
That concept of 'Reporting Back' is something I noticed in Dylan's Songs, like "Tangled Up In Blue". It's a long Composition, more Poetic than Lyrical, but Reporting Back to that Title Line, even with its vague meaning, ties the whole together.
In "It's Just Money" the third Line, not the Title, seemed to have that 'cohering' benefit for me, keeping me aware of where I was in the 'Storyline' with so many 'money' references.
A Song must have 'Enough' Repetition to supply Structure listeners can relate to, and 'Enough' Change to keep listeners interested.
That Judgment Call applies to Melody and to Lyric. How much is 'Enough', or 'Not Enough', or 'Too Much'. The Songwriter's Judgment Call. Listeners will make their own Judgment Call, so the Songwriter can influence theirs by exercising some 'judgment' of his own.
There is 'inspiration' and then there can be 'crafting'. Inspiration is ad lib, whatever comes out of the instrument and whatever Lyric comes out of the brain through the mouth. Keeping or Sweeping is part of that Judgment Call at the time of creation. A more scrutinizing Judgment Call, a post-creation 'assessment' is the crafting.
"It's Just Money" is fun, with Component parts that keep it interesting, for me. The Bridge is brief, only long 'Enough' to serve that function of breaking the Repetition, renewing listener interest, and then back to the Verse Melody, the Chorus Refrain, and out.

I appreciate you, Gary for that rich, insightful response. I'm a little smarter today. Thank you for that. :-)

Peace,

Dave

Hey Gary,
very well-written. I can really relate to the topic of this song. The simple title grabbed my attention. You wrote the strongest bridge I've seen in quite a while. I like how you repeat the title not only in the chorus (which is standard) but also at the end of the bridge but that might be a repetition of the chorus. The "oh oh ohs" combined with a one-line chorus probably make the song very catchy. I'd love to hear this one.

All the best - Robert

The only 'advice' I've ever seen regarding a Bridge is that
1) it should be 'brief', and
2) it should have pivotal information, and
3) that it should NOT use THE Hook, the Title Line.
Brevity implies to me that it is simply serving the function of breaking the necessary Repetition to avoid monotony, which risks losing listeners.
A Bridge Melody, perhaps Rhyme Scheme, are different from the Melody and Rhyme Scheme of either the Verse or the Chorus, unique to the Bridge.
I think the listener 'welcomes' the return of Repetitive Verse/Chorus Melody, after a Bridge. It has that effect of sustaining the Hook Factor that keeps them listening.
The one-Line Chorus is a Chorus Refrain, the Title Line, a Refrain-Type Chorus, as opposed to a Stanza-Type Chorus comprised of many Lines, one or more of which are the Title Line.
Repeating the Bridge as part of the Coda, the final Musical Movement, is unusual too. Generally a Bridge serves the function of breaking the Repetition to enable a final giving of the Chorus when the Songwriter can't think of a Verse III to satisfactorily end with.
