Here's what happens when you allow AI to compose news stories. This is just ridiculous, but it could also be dangerous. Notice how AI blended me and another composer together.
AI absorbs info from the entire Internet. And AI doesn't know its ass from a hole in ground. I wonder how many other news stories are distorted. And btw, AI generated music does the same damn thing! They're adding other writer's hard work to yours. Don't know how anyone could feel good about AI generated music.

I was wondering about the big artist catalogues. As I recall, Jason Aldean sold his song catalogue for 100 million. Now that someone who needs a jingle for advertising can pay $10 a month and generate 100 of them, what does that do to the value of those catalogues? Or a song for a movie?
On my RVN page, I put up some AI and I am getting compliments on my "great voice." But...it's not mine. ;(
Well there goes another thread shot to help - ha, ha.

I realize that. And the true misgiving is a flame war may overshadow my masterful operatic PACMAN song. That is a masterpiece. I spent minutes on it. Minutes of toil. Tell your troll pal, to be sweet.

If you post little school snarks following everyone of my posts for the clear purpose of inciting a negative response, and then post the negative response with the (shadow) caption..."See look what he did!"... only fools are going to be fooled by that. That is little school girl stuff.
You are an adult. Just be nice. I'll be nice in kind.

John,
You are tilting at windmills. A.I. is NOT going away. The blood is in the water. A recent legal decision just cleared the way even wider. A judge ruled it was 100% fine for A.I. to learn from available content, the same as humans. It is just as messed up as when "corporations" were given the same free speech rights as humans and therefore they could donate money in elections. It is ALL a scam, but unless you can stop any of it, all that is left is how people USE these tools. Technology has ALWAYS been used by bad people to do bad things. Unless you can back down the most powerful governments in the world (including the entire West, Russia, China and the rest of the developed nations) who are ALL invested in pieces or aspects of creating then using for their side and against everyone else (including each of their own countries population, especially among the super powers) then A.I. which is still in baby steps, will be unimaginably more powerful than it already is. If good people fail to utilize it for good, then we are 100% at the mercy of the machine. This technocracy of super powerful tech lords is far scarier than the technologies. They are running the world and if the wrong ones end up on top of the hill, our trouble won't be music or entertainment or even news (which is already 100% corrupt and manipulated, but at least people are learning they can't trust anything said or shown by MSM and you have to be super skeptical of EVERYTHING!
A.I. right now at least, is only as smart as the info it is given. Agenda's have already been fed into it's core programming and we can't do a damn thing about it other than call it out. But we have to use these tools to amplify the warnings as fast as they ramp up the dangers. A.I. is a flawed but super powerful tool that must be wielded by good people or we are lost. And it grows stronger every moment of a 24/7/365 cycle. By next year, it will be 100 to 1000 times better than right now. Full films will be easy to make, good enough for IMAX by next year. It isn't stopping. Are you surrendering?

Did you see this Brian. An AI article about me: https://safariflex.weebly.com/blog/lawrence-schick When I said AI doesn't know it's ass from a hole in the ground, I was referring to this. AI doesn't know the difference between me and someone else with the same name. Now, what if AI got my name mixed-up with a criminal. AI could destroy reputations or worse.

"Fair Use." From what I have read, it looked like it would come down to fair use. The atty lady that I watch backed up what you stated...It appears that the big players on all sides are going to cut deals.

Most of these LLMs are using idiot sites like Reddit to "learn." This doubles down on political agenda's as Reddit is 100% on one side of the aisle already. X is also full of nonsense, but in that case it is BALANCED nonsense. When given both sides of issues, A.I. makes uncomfortable decisions for their masters. So they went full Reddit and other lopsided sites. I don't want them going to ANY side of ANY issue, I want it used on ALL opinions, good, bad and nonsensical because we learn over and over that even good people can be well intentioned and still 100% wrong about almost everything. Only free speech saves us. Echo chambers unfortunately is what is training this stuff and when they put together a bio for someone it is always going to be wrong. That interview I did with "Footloose" creator Dean Pitchford, who used to come here regularly and was also our biggest donor for a time, told me that interview we did is the only full, verbatim and accurate interview of his entire career! I transcribed a 3 hour conversation word for word and published it. They only stuff removed was noted within the interview itself for context and reason. (I.e. personal stories we swapped which would needlessly bring negative or embarrassing light on others or simply stuff that was too inside baseball for outsiders to care about). He's been around for 50 years in the industry and they can't get basic facts right about him usually. And that was all HUMAN. All A.I. does is use mainstream, inaccurate sources for it's knowledge base. Because most sites censor their users severely A.I. never sees real opinions or inconvenient info. 99% of major corporations pay giant teams plus Google and other tech companies billions to scrub the internet of inconvenient truths. For little money small companies and individuals can hire lesser versions of tech to do the same. So humans are just as misled as A.I. because we are all getting the same "bad info in, bad info out" garbage, it is just that A.I. gets way MORE than humans and will reflect those flaws. Most of the music that has been used to train A.I. is NOT mainstream or major acts. Those people are lawyered up and part of the system. They trained on all the little people they have always shut out of any voice or representation. When you see an "artist" testifying, it is a dog and pony show where they are chosen to say what they by the same companies they supposedly are railing against. That is how the game works, and I saw it firsthand. When I would not repeat "the message" they wanted, they pushed me out of that circle. An honest person is NEVER allowed to speak with politicians and if someone slips through and speaks actual truth to power, they are punished accordingly, just as I was. I went from insider golden boy to outsider problem child in one weekend when I wouldn't say what the real power players wanted to a group of Senators. I stopped being invited to speak, or participate. You guys are likely unaware we were briefly seen as equals with massive companies like Google and Microsoft back then. Our Just Plain Folks logo was all over DC events concerning music. Our name was on dozens of major legal battles and painted alongside these leaders as "in the same club" until then. Then they started picking at our Wikipedia page which was huge at one time, until they literally deleted even our stub. Our name was quietly removed from major newspapers like the NY Times and LA Times and Chicago Tribune. We were in all 3 many times and I was regularly consulting with all three on countless stories. But when I would not tow the line, I was OUT. Now future generations will not know we existed in all these early battles that shaped things. Dissenting voices have simply been scrubbed like bad reviews and opposing views on nearly everything important online and in the halls of power. And it isn't changing.
Our ONLY hope is to get good people to use this over powered tech in ethical ways. Me getting a quality drum track that is balanced with my keyboards and a better female voice to present my song than my very non-female voice is not the problem you seem to think it is. It is an ethical use of technology to develop work that was written and recorded DECADES ago. Production quality will no longer be done "old school" except by a literally dying breed of people. All we are really doing is removing the middle men and women from the process. And removing the egregious costs to produce a professional recording. If someone can record and release an album using their DAW all alone, how is this tech depriving anyone of anything, unless studios are deserving of my money more than I am? There is no loss of income from money that never existed, and these final songs are WAY more ME alone, than if I paid a producer, session players, recording engineers, mixing engineers, mastering engineers (all using the same advanced tech now) and so on? In my opinion, going directly from creator to fan is the purest possible result. If the Beatles hadn't had Martin and his giant team, they wouldn't have been a fraction of what they were, but if you put ANY band with those same talents, other music would be the norm, not the 4 lads from Liverpool. Now, we all have the SAME tools to choose from. We will see a different model of who is heard, by clever people who use the best tools and do the best job. I want already talented, but underheard artists to be heard. I have spent my life putting my hours where my mouth is. A.I. is a beast, good people need to use it or we are way more lost than the alternative.

This was ALWAYS going to happen, I said it way way back. It is the identical playbook they used with Spotify. They will get ownership. The people who were REALLY most used, the little guys and gals on sites like Soundcloud and CD Baby, are the ones A.I. was truly trained on, and they will never see a penny from any of these ""negotiations" and in fact, they will be crafted to ensure they never will! Same old same old!

I got a "fan" connection on RVN today. When I looked at their page, it was one song, and the author was up front that her poetry had been turned into a song by AI. I suspect that the avalanche is just starting to build.

I don't have any confidence in that Brian. I've noticed some libraries that were touting 10's of thousands of tracks available. Now they're touting millions.
The ramifications of this are hard to get a head all the way around.
Fiction novelists, songwriters...the list of impacted endeavors goes on and on and on. In the new reality an author will likely have to be having to talk about their unique personal experiences to sell a book. Ex-presidents, etc.
As for ethics? How ethical are things now? Unless benevolent extraterrestrials assume control...I don't see much hope for a change in that.

Yeah, I saw an AI book titled The Haunted Dollhouse. AI generated in the writing style of Agatha Christie. That's okay, she won't get upset. Agatha's been dead since 1976.
The line has been drawn, John, and most are ready to enter the fire. Mesmerized by all the GOOOOOD it can do. LOL You can preach, as I have, but to no avail. I wrote a song called, "No One Cared" that addresses this very issue. It's in lyric form in the 2nd lyrics threads.

Yes, it's going to be a terrible world to be a part of. Although. I probably won't be around for it in 10 years. My children & grandchildren will be - sad.
I have noticed a decline in TV/film placements. One of my publishers joined another one, thus more competition, more tracks. Another one is embracing AI technology. But my favorite publisher won't touch AI tech. They only use real musicians & composers.

So I take a song I wrote and performed over a thousand times live, and run it through A.I. to improve recording quality. How am I not a real composer? I upload MY piano playing, bass playing, my buddy playing guitar and another playing drums. Our riffs and styles are used by A.I. but are sonically improved, much like having a producer, engineer and mastering expert upgrade our initial performance on any studio recording. In what way is that not playing live? You clearly have not used the technology and based on your repeated posts you do not understand how it can be used or works. Do you only play acoustic pianos to do your work? Using an electronic one was called cheating not long ago. Same with playing non piano instrument sounds via a keyboard. Now MOST music is played that way. Few people tour with a symphony or live strings, brass, woodwinds etc. Are they all fakes? It's hypocritical to say all these tools are pure, but other tools are not. Music is words and melody or melody. The rest is arrangement and production. The part that is being replaced is production. There is no need for all the processing gear any more. It is all artificial to start with So why be hypocritical? Even the Beatles used samples over a half century ago!

Not hypocritical Brian. If it were just improving the quality of an existing song, okay, but it's creating thousands of new songs from stealing others' work simply by typing in a description or creating songs from lyrics. And in minutes, cluttering up by dispersing millions of these fakes. All the previous technology paid and cleared their product. Can't understand why you don't see the difference, Brian. It's like a child stealing another child's toy and doesn't want to give it up.
Borrowing a cliche, "two very different things can be true at the same time."
But it seems in this case, whether true or not, fair or not...AI is inevitable.
The most rational approach, imo, is to do everything possible to make it work to your benefit. The problem may be similar to that of a human being trapped in a cage with a hungry lion. That human is never really going to make the lion work for him/her. Being devoured is the only likely outcome.
For now, all of us are initially elated about what AI does for our songs in an instant with a mere 5 or 6 words of prompting. It's a dream come true. But the reality that this is happening thousands upon thousands of times a day, producing millions, then billions of songs that bury mine in a galactic haystack of seeming "sameness"...is sobering.
Is Spotify intentionally giving AI "bands" preferential treatment?
I gave up putting my music on these sites years ago, I believe it will be the ruination of music, especially for the indie artist, competing against AI. These sites make billions while indie artist make pennies.
Does anyone think it's a good idea to flood the market with millions of AI tracks that can be made in minutes? All part of the plan to create a level playing field. Drag the talented people down to the untalented level. Then we'll all be equal. Then we all lose.
