For somebody who has done over 100 of these, I've had a few revelations along the way. Still funny reading Marty and Rob bs old scathing attacks on me for using it. Rob b would say... See everybody looks what I did with no ai... Lol that's all he does now

Advantages: fast, forgiving, new versions can be made fast. Sounds like commercial releases. Great phrasing of melodies, it's like a calculator, we can't process that many possibilities in our life time, let alone hours spent writing.

Disadvantages: guitar solos suck, most instrumental solos suck. And that's a big part of a track.

You can't really build on your own idea. How many songs start as a grove...some riff going behind it, there is no way for ai to provide that to you on it.

It will instead take your melody and do something else with it

A guitar riff, a memorable one , can be half the song. This will give you generic ones.

Like for example, what is the likelihood that pressing a button saying ( rock guitar riff) and it pumps out back in black, or stairway to heaven, or ticket to ride, or, life in the fast lane...

Zero chance.

Reality is it deals in generic variations.

It's main concern is melody, and making your lyrics singable.

Nashville is not going to let penney songs replace session players as of now .its a novelty for 12 million people on Suno, its machines for 10 bucks a month. The Nashville publisher will spend 20 bucks on Starbucks Monday morning listening to human made demos . In the Q and A segment somebody is going bring up AI. Young staff writers are good at making tracks. You need disposable incomes to compete with 25 year olds that grew up on PRO TOOLS .

I didn't understand that. I recently uploaded a 15 second piano part in Suno together with my lyrics and it used my piano piece in the intro and several other sections of the song. Only in the chorus and bridge did Suno generate a different chord progression. I would view that as a co-write with Suno. I wrote the lyrics and Suno used my piano melody and my chord progression in some of the song parts.

I'm using Suno now more often as my band. It plays my melodies, sings my vocal melodies, etc. For 10$ a month, this is much cheaper than what Elvis is doing and what I used to do. It also sounds much better than when I play all the instruments myself and sing. I hope, in a year or so, we'll be able to upload more than just 2 minutes. That will be a real game changer.

Honestly not much difference

Yeah I know that's something I haven't dipped into, if I make the move over to suno.

I guess I've been waiting for ai band members.

So, if I enter a guitar riff, what does the piano do? Same thing the guitar does, what will a sax do?

It probably is my next logical step, I just wonder if the rest of the music is going to play the riff . Which is not what I want.

I don't think you should use session musicians for demos. I'm not sure if it ever made sense, let alone today with all the tech.

I get that real musicians offer a feel we can't get, and they understand better than software or ai, and it can be done in one take.

But a deno is a deno, why waste money on demos. If it's your album then yes, can be worth it, but who's gonna buy it?

Yeah I'm working a contract job right now. Were dealing with independent contractors who we ultimately need to meet our goals. So it's all about relationships.

But if your requesting them to do something for you , it didn't matter how nice they were, or how nice you were, it's about how cost effective is it for them.

If they don't think it's worth while, sorry pal. Which is funny cause our higher ups think it's our fault we're not maximizing our relationships.

Lol we have nothing to give them except a funny joke or some sports talk. They on the other hand have resources they need to budget.

Anyway, yes it's about relationships, but your giving them more than what you get back.

If money isn't a concern , then keep doing what you're doing as long as it's rewarding.

You are clearly empathetic and appreciative of the people who help you do what you love doing Ben, but the writing is on the wall,
AI is improving in accuracy and user-friendliness, and flexibility by the day. It was just wont make any sense to pay several hundred bucks for a song versus $10 a month for as many songs as you wanna make...much longer.

I admire your concern though.

But you cant keep session players in business by paying for demos. Yeah my brother in law always goes to cashier when he shops, says machines take away jobs.

If you don't mind waiting on line for an hour go for it.

Basically in the end, you adapt or you fall. As much integrity that you may have.

I too admire it, but not to the point where I'm paying 800 a song for a new song every day.

If you want the price of eggs and gas to go down dramatically and immediately...leave California.

But your not getting more than a demo for 800.

Your better off paying 10 k for three songs than 12 songs at 800 each

I produce my own , it's only about 400.00 each . But the damn Atmos mix is 400.00
I'm not sure why I'm doin that . Listeners only use head phones . You need studio speakers to hear the difference. I can get a demo done for 600.00 with a singer , if I was going that route and have in the past for 20 years .
