. I watched a Pat Boone interview, remember him? He told a story about walking through a well known military cemetery its name, sorry I forget but the story I do recall. He said he walked along lines of graves reading out the names of the fallen out loud by way of making sure they wouldn't be forgotten. Lyric on link JV

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde
Your songs always good. These lyrics are thoughtful and lovely. The marriage of the lyrics to the music and the singer's vocal is very very compelling.
IMO this song has a very appreciative audience that just needs to be found.
There's a difference between a nice sentiment and a good lyric.
Hard to argue with what's said , I have much respect for veterans and people who gave their lives, but this reads like somebody looking for applause after a speech.
Make it personal, make it about one guy, that story will tell the story for all. Always liked this
This is how you write a song like this. Marty doesn't know . Just need to change focus sure you e heard this before, Irish song
oh how do you do, young willy mcbride do you mind if i sit here down by your graveside and rest for a while in the warm summer sun i've been walking all day, and im nearly done and i see by your gravestone you were only nineteen when you joined the great fallen in 1916 well i hope you died quick and i hope you died clean oh willy mcbride, was is it slow and obscene did they beat the drums slowly did the play the fife lowly did they sound the death march as they lowered you down did the band play the last post and chorus did the pipes play the flowers of the forest and did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind in some loyal heart is your memory enshrined and though you died back in 1916 to that loyal heart you're forever nineteen or are you a stranger without even a name forever enshrined behind some old glass pane in an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained and faded to yellow in a brown leather frame did they beat the drums slowly did the play the fife lowly did they sound the death march as they lowered you down did the band play the last post and chorus did the pipes play the flowers of the forest the sun shining down on these green fields of france the warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance the trenches have vanished long under the plow no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing down but here in this graveyard that's still no mans land the countless white crosses in mute witness stand till' man's blind indifference to his fellow man and a whole generation were butchered and damned did they beat the drums slowly did the play the fife lowly did they sound the death march as they lowered you down did the band play the last post and chorus did the pipes play the flowers of the forest and i can't help but wonder oh willy mcbride do all those who lie here know why they died did you really believe them when they told you the cause
did you really believe that this war would end wars well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame the killing and dying it was all done in vain oh willy mcbride it all happened again and again, and again, and again, and again did they beat the drums slowly did the play the fife lowly did they sound the death march as they lowered you down did the band play the last post and chorus did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
John, The dust has barely settled from the troll parade that was taken down and this clown has gone straight back to trolling and insults and personal antagonisms. Don't respond. He is an anonymous troll with no personal history other than trolling. No work history , occupation , or anything. For certain no history as a real songwriter.
He's mad because no one thinks his songs are worth a comment, and he once again is taking it out on your thread and your lovely song. His songs get no reaction but the trolling does.
Its clear to me, that his opinions are worthless.
He will never in his life write a song as good as this one. Your song is beautiful.

when I see you bullshitting, I will make sure the bullshit is cleaned up.
You were exposed in that thread and lucky Brian deleted it.
You don't care about this song.
I was more useful than your bullshit will ever be.
