Dear John, (SIDENOTE: This got way too long. If you dont care to read it, I understand)
MY POSITION ON YOUR POSTS... I have TDSF. Trump derangement Syndrome FATIGUE. The TDS afflicted have a psychological addiction to hating Donald Trump. They want to debate every aspect of everything that he does as well as every aspect of his being.
I watched the Mueller investigation come to nothing but allegations. I watched the farsical “Duty to Warn” collect signatures from academic mental health professionals. Then I watched as Biden's demetia was covered up, until they sent him out in front of the world to destroy himself publicly. In the present, Trump holds casually conducted meetings with Zelensky, Bukele etc in front of the world. His cogency is visble to anyone who cares to watch. I watched Trump taken off the ballot in CO by their supreme court in an absurd decision ignoring due process. I watched a YALE LAW PROFESSOR submit an amicus brief in support of that absurd decision. I watched it end in a 9-0 SCOTUS reversal. I watched an army of govt operatives crash MaraLago to retrieve classified dox while a pres/ex vp was feeding them to a biographer with no consequence. I’ve watched the state of NY prosecute him for loan fraud on loans that were re-paid, and now one of the prosecutors is being looked at hard for mortgage fraud. I could go on.
I truly believe that you and Rob have a psychological obsession with hating Trump. (TDS) Every day you and Rob want to debate some movements in the stock market or some OPINION expressed by someone that validates your hatred for Trump. To me, those endeavors have become rabbit holes to avoid.
Rob even carries it further. He strikes me as Barney Fife, two weeks after his Ritalin script ran out. Steve holds his fire for selected moments.
For me, it has become akin to sitting besides someone with a chronic gambling addiction at a baseball game. And they are pressing me to bet on what the next pitch will be, where the next out will occur, what batter will strike out next?
My response to them is “I don’t know. I just want to watch the game evolve. I will worry about strike-outs in the 8th & 9th inning, if the game is close.”
But their inner disturbance keeps them coming.
I have no doubt that you feel your opinions are validated by your “correct” view of the “long game.” I think that's unlikely. You and I have no way to know how this tariff stuff will turn out. You have a desired outcome and your narrative will point to it.
The other point that chronic Trump haters miss is that he was re-elected. The events taking place are all about Trump, not you and me. Well, more about me…as I am an American voter.
I desire for Trump to be successful in balancing the trade deficits and getting, at least part of the world, pulled out of the US Treasury. I don't know how it will come out. I don’t know what is true and what is not. I dont know what is being said versus what is being done. I dont know how issues that have not even risen yet will ultimately resolve.
IN CLOSING... I know that the following things have you in a full-on stew. You have hated Trump for a decade and he is still there. He belittled your country as the 51st state. He belittled Trudeau by calling him governor of the 51 state. Your beloved liberal Trudeau was sent packing.
I know that has likely fired up your psychological obsession to hate Trump and to generate an insatiable list of his wrong-doings… Please understand that I don’t share that obsession.
I have opinions on trade but realize how little actual information that is truly available to me. Therefore if I go running out into the fog with my opinions, they probably wont bear out.
Since liberal socialist democrat ideology is obviously light-years removed from anything "Trump", or anything Constitutionally American..., isn't it logical to conclude that the "derangement" is just for show; A distraction?
Radicalized Dem-wits can attack Trump with impunity, all in the name of "Equitable Democracy", and still maintain the facade of legitimate political discourse.
However, an errant lack of integrity and sincere conviction precludes a direct assault upon their true adversary... Primarily, the forthright morality, and adamant rebellion against tyranny, plainly delineated in America's founding documents.
It's impossible for a socialist democrat to remain true to his cause, and openly reveal his ultimate goal with the same breath. To do so would be an admission of treason and treachery.

I think that there is some of that. I also think that it is a lot of decent enough people, who simply don't connect all the dots.
I have some older(than me) relatives in a Midwestern farm state, who hate Trump to the bone marrow.. It seems to be a genetic hatred of all things Republican, rooted in past repub stances on farm subsidies. Dems were pro subsidy. Repubs were against. Repubs are bad. End of story.
But oddly, these same rural folks are highly resentful of the Mexicans being bussed into their small towns to work in slaughterhouses and meat processing plants. The Mexicans have set up Mexican enclaves with Mexican restaurants, laundromats, etc., which the "locals" do not appreciate.
And I ask one of them, "if you feel that way, why do you hate Trump so much? He is the only politician running that will speak out against unlawful immigration and it's effects on the country?"
The answer that I got was "I just do. I don't want to talk about it."
I responded, "Do you realize that the people that you are voting for are greasing these wheels, resulting in what you complain about?"
The response I got back, "I said that I dont want to talk about it."
Wow tell a guy he is less reasonable good looking than you and watch his viewpoint focus.
Judging by what I read Marty, I would suggest your TDSF is caused by your exposure to and having to think about Trump derangement ad naseum, or TDAN
Totally admit I see Trump as unfit for office for a variety of reasons but like you see he is your president and as such he is one of the most powerful men on the world's political stage.
Whatever we talked about back then going back almost a decade is history and you can organize and remember label that as you will.
But it is all about what is happening here and now and his impact on us now and into the future
I totally understand my predictions based on what I know of Trump and what I see of Trump and what I hear of Trump and what I feel about Trump are coloured through my experiences as they are through your own
And what you or I see in the short run and what Trump might achieve in the long run are different discussions as are those that are Canada vs US.
It all boils down to Trump generates controversy. We can't help but talk about him through our admitted differences.
It's just who we are Marty. I'm just more reasonable good looking than you
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop
Wow this is a beautiful example of Ayn Rand's observation that if the conclusion seems illogical, go back and examine the premise

I'm wasting my time , sell out Nashville, whatever. have fun .
Ben
It is not a matter of selling out. AI is not going back in the bag. It is an adjustment that everyone is going to have to deal with.
As far as selling out Nashville? I have no relevance at all, in or with "Nashville." No one there has ever acknowledged me in any way. I accept that.
Marty
You could sing them and use session players . Thats fine use AI. A war of robots and humans . That's what's going on. Probably like that Ford worker who lost his job to a robot.

20 words...
(Trump is just the scapegoat socialist democrats need in order to sway the easily distracted while simultaneously propagating treasonous ideology.)
As Marty aptly implied, some people are simply incapable of connecting all the dots...
Perhaps some Americans have become far too comfortable with being told what to think...?
Disney for example: You may be sitting in a theater thinking that you paid to see "Snow White"... Celebrating and condoning the bravery of "democratic progressivism"... While quietly debating your child's inherent gender rights...

Well John,
Be all that as it may, Donny has come up with a collective moniker for you and your crew. This was on X and is making the rounds on social media.
Panican [Pan-Ih-Cuhn] (n.) A person whose entire personality is producing FEAR PORN aimed at anything President Donald Trump says, does or suggests. There is a theory they read the book "Chicken Little" too much as a child. Examples of Panicans include: Anyone employed by CNN, MSNBC, those who include pronouns in their bio, and especially those who said Biden was mentally fit. Everyone on ""The View" is a Panican. (v.) To panic, but only when it revolves around Trump. "Under Joe Biden oil price rose, but now that they're dropping and everyone on the left is Panican."
What do I think? I told you. We are the same, except I am more reasonably good looking than you

US GDP registered at an annualized rate of -0.3% in the first quarter. That’s a sharp slowdown from the fourth quarter’s +2.4% rate, and much worse than the +0.8% rate economists projected. Trump: “Our Country will boom, but we have to get rid of the Biden ‘Overhang. This will take a while, has NOTHING TO DO WITH TARIFFS, only that he left us with bad numbers.” This is the Peter Navarro playbook. A few weeks ago, Navarro said that if the tariffs don’t work, we’ll blame Biden. Is there anybody out there who believes this BS?
Imports skyrocketed from -1.9% in the fourth quarter to 41.3% in the first three months of this year. Weren’t the tariffs put in place to reduce the imports?
Omg! I have sold everything that I own and I am moving to the North Pole. The horrible orange man is going to cause a worldwide depression that will devolve into nuclear war, and result in the entire Earth's atmosphere being contaminated and unbreathable. Run while you still can.

I've been out of the country for a few weeks. Things are great where I am. I didn't know that things were that bad in the US. North Pole? It looks like the North Pole will become part of Russia. I don't think life there is better. They might deport all the American citizens.
Marty, you are part of the 14% of Americans who still fully support THOM without reservation, even to the point of ridiculing the 86% who have varying degrees of reservation about what he has done and is doing
Early on we raised the point of lack of due process for people to ensure those being deported are in fact "eligible for the flight". You poo poohd it, but it seems SCOTUS fully agrees with us
We raised the point that tariffs are not good for any trading nations ...that it is a tax and will lead to higher prices. That you would not believe. Now just yesterday or the day before Trump called Amazon's (non)decision to isolate the tariff affect on their pricing...to isolate it....as a "hostile act" .....you know....telling the truth about tariffs and their effects on the USA is now a "hostile act"
We raised the point about THOM's erratic decisions on trade...tariffs one day, off the next, 125% after that, .....he simply roils the markets We said that if things did not work out that he would blame others for what he has done......we now have "the Biden Overhang"
Now you want to move to the North Pole to get away from it all
You do know that will all be open water soon right? It is why USA wants Greenland...why they are talking to Canada about being able to exert USA influence in our shared Arctic Ocean
Here is your next worry.
The USA distribution of wealth has been written about and it WILL cause lots of social upheaval as things become less and less affordable for the vaste majority of Americans and your middle class is shrinking. History suggests that as wealth becomes more concentrated, economic power and gains become a political force to perpetuate their advantages over others. How many billionaires are running your country now??? (hint the number between 12 and 14) Can you draw Roman parallels? How about The French Revolution? How about your own "Gilded Age" Do you know what a Plutocracy is? Is the USA now a "Government by the wealthy for the wealthy"???
I did not read past 14% And 86%. Because these polls, particularly the ones that are going to be on media that you subscribe to are propaganda. The best suggestion I can make to you is to go to RealClearPolitics and look at the Aggregates and the averages. When propagandists cherry pick polls and then feed them to you, it is pointless to rely on them particularly in a shifting landscape on any given day. Believe what you will I'm going to wait for the situation to develop further before I devolve into an neurotic breakdown.
And in the latest "I will wait until something happens news"...and as a follow up on SCOTUS disagreeing with you Marty, now a Federal Court judge appointed by Trump has called his use of that alien enemies act law illegal.
Not saying these folks are undeportable....just that the law Trump invoked to quickly hustle these folks out is illegal in this situation...and with SCOTUS ruling that due process must be used....well that does put your views at odds with what is legal.
Just keeping it real for you Marty
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop
I'm watching Trump and his tariffs John, but nothing has really developed yet other than Trump-hate based hysteria. That is in full swing.
I'm also watching the Rockets in the playoffs. The games are 4 quarters. I don't want to stop and engage in a debate about how the games will turn out every time someone steals a ball and takes it to the basket.
For the next few days I'm in West Texas riding around the mountains, so my GAS quota is very low.
But there is a scenario with regard to Canada that I am sure is lost on you. I think it bears some reality.
Trump was in a meeting with trade advisors when he realized how bad America's overall deficit was.
Then he started looking at individual nations and realized that Canada needed an adjustment.
Then Trump said, how do I bring attention to this? An advisor said, "you could say that Canadians are eating the dogs and cats."
Trump responded, "No, I've used that one. I have a better hand grenade. I'll tell them that they are getting a free ride and it's too much, so I'm going to make them the 51st state. I'll call Trudeau, who they are running out of town now, governor Trudeau. When I do that, they will crap their pants and go into a pointless frenzy.
Then Trump was asked, "what good will that do?"
Trump said, "they have elections coming up. We don't want their conservatives in office to deal with. We want the same inept liberal gumballs in office that the country wanted rid of only a few weeks ago. Their ineptness and neuroticsm will cause them to make all sorts of completely insane moves in dealing with us, because they have to keep a crazy base happy. So...on the eave of the election I'm gonna pour it on even more and churn them up so much, that the country will elect the most outlandish liberal nimrods that they have available."
Everyone who still is on the Trump train should watch this. This is not propaganda. I admit, I would not use the words he does but maybe some people need to be talked to the way they talk themselves. He addresses so many points we've covered here lately.
Hard pass. First off, nothing is not propaganda or biased in today's world.
As the lawyer's love to believe... "A lie is not a lie, depending on how you tell it."
Standard op for Maddow, Hannity...all of em.
And Rob, You would not advocate for something that was not biased.
10 years of TDS has reconfigured your brain, as well as John's. It has made it so the mere image of Trump or sound of his voice disproportionately fires regions of your brain in a perverse reward system. It makes your brain have an insatiable hunger for anything that refutes Trump. The media trades in it. They call it "red meat."
What is wrong with you? You keep attacking me. My post was not targeted at you. You're not on the Trump train or did I miss something?
Attack is a stronger word than I would use.
All the political and religious arguments had quieted down on this songwriting site with Tony's temporary hiatus.
I'm trying to point out to you what is at play behind your obsession to bring your dislike for Trump here to a songwriting forum rather than one that invites political discussions of Trump.
Furthermore, my observations are too basic and elemental to be completely wrong. I suggest that you consider them.
Summary You desire to unload Trump-hate here. I desire to write about why you feel the need to do it.
Well I don't mind at all...I just wish you were as well informed about us as we are about you
You forget. USA tends to be insular...inward looking...think of themselves as exceptional and not needing the rest of the world.
We live next to an elephant ...need to be vigilant, informed etc
You also forget we share history, culture....and so much more. It is why we know and care more about you than you know and care about us. maybe it's a Texan thing...dunno

I have loved my two trips to Canada and am planning a third. Last September on my Quebec City trip, I learned a lot of stuff about how intertwined we are. I explored a pristeen Fort that was fortified because the colonists had tried to attack it and take Canada from the English, but were repelled. I had no idea. Many colonists sympathetic to England fled to Canada. I didn't realize how many.
And I could take the attitude as others do that PAX AMERICANA entitles Americans to hegemony over a neighboring nation of 40 million that derives so much benefit from the US. But I don't. As a citizen I lean towards the "isolationist" viewpoint.
The problem is NOT that I am unconcerned. The problem is that I have been too unconcerned. It seems that,
there is a trade imbalance of 1 trillion with the world. It seems that there is a trade imbalance with Canada of 63 billion. It seems that there are many Canadian tariffs on US goods with no counterpart.
The most complicating factor appears to be AutoParts crossing the border for AMERICAN CARS. Emphasis, AMERICAN CARS.
People like me have been asleep at the wheel. Trump woke us up.
The idea that a country, 1/8 the size of another, which sells upwards to 80% of it's wares across one border...can dictate terms to the MARKET COUNTRY... is ludicrous.
As I have suggested before, the best policy for everyone involved, particularly Canada is to come to the table with reason and fairness in the front of their mind as the best course of action.
If you all want to set your hair on fire, elect the gang that cant shoot straight and then send them to go ring Trump out...that may end up looking very stupid.
14% according to some poll? Don't hang your hat on that. You've been citing polls for a decade. Yet, Trump is president.

Marty, have you looked at a map lately, I'm sure you meant economy or population instead of country, but Canada is second only to Russia in land mass, of course that could change if outside forces keep wanting us to break up or succumb to their charms LOL Just joking.

I meant population Everett. I am aware of Canada's vast size. By land mass, it will become the largest of the 51 states by far. Assuming that King Donald (his future title) does not decree that it be broken up into 4 or 5.
Just kidding. Rest assured that the US is not truly interested in absorbing 40 million people who would elect Justin Trudeau. I can't even believe that Tim Walsh is a governor of a border state.
Dom, they do have an army and my understanding is that it is a competent army.
Canada is lucky we ket them live up there rent free.
You don't even have an army...
Who ya gonna call.....
We do have armed forces but under the Liberal government the past ten years, it was neglected and underfunded to the point of shrinking to a shadow of its former self. They did mostly peace keeping missions right alongside the USA forces. Trudeau's government wasted money worldwide on useless projects which should have been used at home supporting our soldier. It will take a few years and billions of dollars to rebuild the forces to where they use to be. My daughter spent 22 years in the forces, as did her husband, my brother-in-law was also in the forces. Canada fought in both world wars too, plus other smaller wars, no we are not the superpower that the US is and have no desire to be.

Yeah the desire not to be is cause you have us. Lol. I'd put my money into other things too, if I had the best military in the world on speed dial.
I jest, of course, but always a grain of truth in it all.
Means NATO is not the basketcase US thinks it is, neither is Canada
We can all improve...but it is the USA that leads spending in the world....mostly for its own interests.....international stability for its economic interests
Does it benefit us? Yup.
Should we pay our fair share? Yup
Now who decides here what is fair???????

We are living in the final days when freedoms we take for granted will be taken away for a while. Evil will be considered good while good will be considered evil. Freedom of speech is the first to go and freedom to hear the truth already exist. Silence is golden but not when it is forced upon you, silence allows evil to grow through fear of speaking against it.

Yes, and silence is also un American. And I'm sure un Canadian too.
We were built by revolutionaries who challenged authorities
I can't think of anything better to talk about than the truth.
But,
The argument over what truth is will never die when lies are more profitable.
That's the problem.
I can talk to ten people, I did two weeks ago, at a wedding, people I haven't seen in years
But it's astonishing how people can look at the same president and have such different opinions.
Truth is difficult to know. History is written by the victors. One mans truth is anothers complete bs

I prefer not to answer. Over the last few days the site has quieted down. Arguments have stopped. No one has introduced politics or religion or picked at scabs incessantly.
My interactions, though few, have been about songs. I have even been inspired by someone's song title to write a song on the spur of the moment. I'm liking it and hoping that a focused tranquil and productive atmosphere will encourage the many guests to interact.
There are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of sites and comment sections to argue Trump and the courts. Youtube and everywhere else.
Please allow this site to be friendly, at least tranquil, and focused on songwriting.
Marty
I would prefer not to be "called out" about political issues. If you continue, I won't respond here but will move it to the "bash Marty" thread in the general section and sequester it there.
