Exactly John. You nailed it! He could get cheap eggs from Canada but that is bad for the trade balance. He therefore wants to buy the expensive eggs from Europe and fly them half around the world. I'm not sure that will bring down the price of eggs and what will that do to the trade balance with Europe? We'll see.

Guilty as charged John. For going on a decade, I have watched the TDS afflicted blow every little thing about Trump, up into a world ending event. Eggs aren't the end of the world. I haven't ordered eggs or red meat since my 30s. I don't miss them and am certain that the chickens will get back down to business in the not to distant future. Very appropriately, inform Chicken-Little et al that the sky is not falling.

I just read that NATO countries (including Canada) are actively looking for alternatives for the F-35 jets and other military equipment. That would really impact the trade balance. It amounts to 2% of their GDP.
I doubt that the price of eggs will go back down to where it was when the supply comes back. We'll see.
A lot of Canadians have real estate here in southwest Florida, where i live. Many of them are selling their houses now because of Trump. Real estate prices have gone down by 15-20% since the beginning of the year because there are now so many houses on the market. I find it surprising that many Trump supporters are starting to express discontent.

There is a very sensible Hispanic alderman in Chicago who wants the city to cooperate fully with ICE in the apprehension and removal of criminal aliens from his community. If that law is on the books, then it's a law. Murder was illegal in 1796 also, and is still on the books. RvW was a law for decades with no constitutional basis. Things get messy sometimes.
Ultimately SCOTUS will decide, I suppose.

Everybody knows supply and demand is responsible for the prices of many things (eggs, real estate, …). Accordingly, prices go up and down. Of course, tariffs override this rule. We took a direct hit from hurricane Ian in late 2022. My real estate asset value went just slightly higher in 2022 and in 2023. It rose over 60% in 2024. Are you saying Biden was responsible for that sharp rise in demand? How did he do that? Maybe it was the stock market wealth that allowed people to pay higher prices. I don't know. Since the beginning of this year, supply has skyrocketed and demand for real estate seems to be fairly low. That's good for me because my property taxes will go down again, hopefully. All of the houses on my street up for sale are owned by Canadians. I didn’t know so many Canadians owned houses here. The ones I talked to say they are selling because of our current president and his policies towards Canada. But anyway, thanks for the explanation. I’m sure things are different where you live.

The point that I made was that neither Biden, nor Trump have anything to do with what currently threatens values in FLA. It is market forces, the most prominent of which imo, was the structural failure that led to the FLA legislature mandating set back funds for future structural inspections and work. I have seen and read that some of those assessments are stunningly high and deal killers for investors.
There is a guy that I follow named Nick on Youtube. He is an independent voice who appears to work completely alone. He is real bright and has been invited to CNBC and a major network interviews. He started calling FLA and TX real estate markets a year before anyone else was. Since you are a FLA property owner, you might like following his videos.

Nick is a real thing too. He focuses a lot of his time on FLA and TX because those two markets are stacking up with inventory and prices could fall a lot further. High season is April thru May. Insiders are saying Trump is dealing with Canada the way he is because he disliked Trudeau. No one wins when emotion enters the equation....but here we are. Emotion is driving rhetoric and decisions...not hard facts and rational thinking.
We will have an election called soon BTW. I expect Mark Carney will be our next PM. He is a clear headed, highly experienced former central bank governor of Canada and the UK. While in the UK, he led Britain through its Brexit. I think he will be able to speak reason. He has publicly stated he understands what Trump is trying to achieve.
As for having no one tell you were to live, that is decidedly not what is happening. Canadians are reacting because they dislike Trump and what he had done to Canada and our relationship. Our current exchange rate may also be playing a part as is recent "Snowbird" admission rule changes (Canadians coming to Florida for more than 30 days now have to be fingerprinted and there are other barriers)

But you don't get greedy until in. The decision to go in is based on lack of family support, lack of education, lack of opportunities.

Reasons Kids Join Gangs Unstable/broken home. Economic instability. Low education attainment and expectations. Family members in a gang. Neglect by one or both parents. Violence in the home or in the community, directed at the child. Alcoholism and or drug abuse by one or both of the parents.

Nick is a real thing too. He focuses a lot of his time on FLA and TX because those two markets are stacking up with inventory and prices could fall a lot further. High season is April thru May. I also think that Trump and the FED want to bring down the money supply because there appears no other way to bring down inflation, particularly housing and vehicles.

Since 2016, we have all lived in Trump World. Even the 4 years that he was out of office. He does what he does. He isn't going stop.

As far as strong men etc, democracy's greatest enemy is the collective morality of the governed. I can confirm that Europeans didn't like Trump in 2016 and surely don't like him this time around. His approval rating in Germany is around 10%. Germans don't trust rich politicians.
Controlling the money supply is the FED's job, not Trump's. The FED currently doesn't see any inflation problems. Rates have been going down, Inflation as well. Experts say these tariffs could turn things around again. The dollar has really gotten weak these past few days.
Regarding the house, I know what it's like. We said this was the last house we were ever going to build. We just bought a new car ... probably also the last one we'll ever buy. Scary, in a way.

Rob, That is not true. The most current reporting month has inflation under 3%, but the FED remains worried about it because of the US economic condition at this time. I'm not going to debate things that I know not to be true. That's time wasted.
Beyond that;
I know nothing about Germany other than a handful of things that I've seen in the media stating that their economy was in trouble. KTM bankrupted so I did a little reading on that. Though Austrian, there was mention of regional concerns in some of what I saw.
I also know that the Nazi invasion of Russia and the subsequent Battle of Stalingrad... and the subsequent invasion and partition of Germany by the Russians... was not even 100 years ago...and that such animosities don't go all the way away. That makes both the Germans and Russians particularly prickly and adamant when it comes to a peace deal after a recent Russian invasion. That is undoubtedly tainting the German view of Trump, in addition to his insistence that the EU pay up for NATO participation.
And from what little I have seen, Germany has its own internal conflicts and struggles with the rightward swing on the Western Civilization pendulum.
The US is factionalized and badly divided. Trump is not a cause. He is part of a global effect. Insults in the US political history are not unknown at all. We had a civil war. The current times are the good old days compared to that.
Nonetheless, the fabric of our society has currently become so polarized and divided, that discourse has coarsened. Never forget that the US just elected a guy that you hate, but we have had a decade to scrutinize him intensely, with your constant illumination of every little thing that you regard as a misstep..
Trump said that the judge was an a-hole and should be impeached. Roberts responded by asserting the integrity of the entire judicial branch.
Prioritizing that...is being lost in the trees.
The forest is the many criminal circumstances that led to this exchange.
