Love’s A Scam
Overwhelmed by passion Blinded by emotion I surrendered my heart With complete devotion, Then deception crept in And ruined the plan I didn’t know That love’s a scam.
I feel so empty and foolish That I need to hide I’ve lost confidence I’m shattered inside Shaking my head Gold ring in my hand I wish I’d known That love’s a scam.
Bridge I can’t find a reason Or understand why The love I treasured Was a heartless lie.
The weight of misery Is an awkward sight I keep the curtains shut And use the table light, Nursing my pride The best I can Now I know That love’s a scam.

Hey John,
Heartbreak from love is universally understood.
Your lyric is straight to the point. My only nit would be to consider changing the line with 'calm' in the last half of the 2nd verse. Perhaps:
Shaking my head your ring in my hand I wish I’d known That love’s a scam
Just a thought. As always KOS.
Peace,
Dave

Thanks, John! I see you made a change there. I only question the difference between how the words 'palm' and 'scam' sound. There's no sound-alike as in the first verse with 'plan' and 'scam'. (unless you're pronouncing 'palm' like 'pam' ? )

I guess that's how we say it here, like in the pam of my hand, I'm kinda letting it be vague, male or female voice and singing to the crowd, no direct (you/your) I like your idea that the ring is of the finger thanks Dave all the best John

Not much optimismin in this to twist it up . pretty dark and dismal. but the first year is about that. Then you fight back. Kinda odd on last chorus not matching other chorus , Have to hear it, women get away with songs like this

Well love is a scam lol , kinda wears off, then we go thru all this work to get scammed again. I don't think men are really built for monogamy, basically comes down to self control , ain't that a bitch

"Love’s A Scam" Copyright by John Paragreen 2/11/25
Overwhelmed by passion, blinded by emotion, I surrendered my heart, with complete devotion, But deception crept in (Consider deleting 'But') And ruined the plan (Letting your Singer-Character 'own' the plan might be more interesting. "my plan".) I didn’t know That Love’s A Scam. (This is a Refrain-Type Chorus, as opposed to a Stanza-Type Chorus.)
I feel so empty and foolish, that I need to hide. I’ve lost confidence! I’m shattered inside! Shaking my head, gold ring in my palm; (I like 'hand' here too, for that Hard-Rhyme setup. Scots 'palm' will work in Scotland though.) I wish I’d known, That Love’s A Scam.
Bridge Broken promises and fake excuses; They kept it all concealed! My whole world crumbled, when the truth was revealed. (Your Bridge is kind of anti-climactic. A Bridge mostly works with the variation of Melody, different from the Melody of the Verses, something to renew listener interest, to break the Repetition. The words, ideally, are somewhat pivotal, turning the storyline to enable the Repetition of the Musical Movement of the Verse a third time to finish the story. I wonder if "When the SCAM was revealed' would be better.)
The burden of misery, is a terrible sight I keep the curtains shut, and use the table light, nursing my pride, the best I can. Now I know that Love’s A Scam. (A final Musical component, a Coda, would just Repeat, perhaps, Now I know, that Love's A Scam. Now I know, that Love's A Scam.)
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com
