So far i was not able to get Suno to play my chord sequences and melodies. Brian explained here how he does it and I'm amazed how well it works. I have a bunch of really old recordings lying around that I recorded back when I used a cheap mic and software and really had no idea what I was doing. I can now use Suno now to refresh/modernize those old recordings. Here's an example. This is my original recording I did back in 2008: https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7187411Here is the same recording using the "cover" function of Suno: https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14926149

Thanks for posting this comparison! I have read that Suno has added this feature and think it has much potential. I have heard a few examples, and my opinion is.....that the original piece must be very close to complete to begin with in order for the "cover" to be close to a cover. And...I end up thinking....I like the original as much as the cover. That is what I thought when I hear you example here. I thing I prefer the voicing of yours....go figure! Just my take. Bill

Hi Bill, I did get a bunch of other cover versions of this song. Some were even closer to the original, others further away. Of course you can cover the cover of a cover of a cover, etc. Every time you will get something further away from your original recording. I love this feature. Now I can modernize all my old recordings. Thanks for saying that you like my original as much as the cover.

So now that you guys have discovered the Cover feature, here is the next level trick to try. Take the very best version of the Cover you got that upgraded your old demo to a great vocal and consistent melody start to finish, THEN try covering THAT version with a very different genre. Something way different than the initial cover. (Could be 80s Pop, 90s Country, New Wave, Post Punk, Industrial Pop, Blues etc. on and on..
Also try gender swapping. Each time you do a new "cover" you can make lyric edits, arrangement edits, you can add or change instruments (add piano, block guitar, add synth bass, add horns etc...) and you will start getting all sorts of really cool recordings that far surpass the "cover" you started with and comes up with amazing variations. Gender swap your lyrics and vocalist, or make it a boy band vocal or (fill in the blank). The more radical the changes the more interesting results you will get. I took my initial vocal/piano demos, then covered them, added instruments, gender swapped, changed genres, and I have some truly amazing stuff. I do plan to post stuff, but I have 24 more songs to tackle first before I post all 5 of my 1992-1993 albums, each with 25 original songs. I had made 5 90 minute compilations of my favorite songs from those 2 years, plus I have 3 more albums I did, one with my label band, one with my long time guitarist who I played with after my label band broke up, and one back from 1986 with my first guitarist. Those 3 albums have 16-17 songs each as well. I have been able to copy my guitarist's playing (who is sadly disabled and in a nursing home) into some of the updated songs and some of my label bands vocals from my late singer. These are the projects we worked on, played out live for years and in one case got us a record deal offer (which I eventually declined). I always regretted we didn't get a polished version of those songs, but we do now, thanks to A.I. and nearly 5 months of 16 hour days working to update all this material. I figure I have another month of work to do, then I will start posting the albums in full here and maybe on our Just Plain Folks YouTube channel, since I haven't been using it as I originally planned. Maybe activity there will get me back in action doing interviews as I had planned.
Brian
P.S. There are tons of music channels, and tons of tech channels covering A.I. But ONE of them that I have seen are seriously using it to do the kind of stuff I am doing. It gets a bum rap as a toy etc. because most people (including most users there) really have no idea of what you can do with it if you really dig in.
