I have composed a melody for this lyric by Dan Brady.
Rough recording: my voice + ukulele.

WARNING: you can listen to ANOTHER MELODY generated by SUNO for this lyric.
Wee bird: 2:33 (SUNO melody with full arrangement)

THE WEE BIRD

© Lyrics: Dan Brady, August 21, 2024.

Intro: 4 bars (key of A)
Chords: I=A, V=E, IV=D

(I)5_.35_3_/(V)5__~~ /(IV)6__(V)7__/(I)8__~~/

(I)There is a wee bird in a /cage (5_335356/5__~')
(V)It has been there all its /days / (22225_6_/7__~~/)
(IV)Long ago it /(V)lost its voice (6_.46_4_/5_7_5_~/)
(IV)Was not the (V)wee birdies /(I)choice / (6_465_75/3__~~/)

(I)From its prison it sees the /sky (5_335356/5__~')
(V)Wee bird dreams one day to /fly (22225_6_/7__~~/)
(IV)I know why the /(V)wee bird cries (6_.46_4_/5_7_5_~/)
(IV)Trapped in its (V)cage until it /(I)dies / (6_465527/1__~~/)

(I)Break the chains and /(V)smash the locks / (8_.58_5_/9_7_5_~/) < chorus
(IV)Free your heart from /(V)its cruel box / (8_.64_6_/5_2_5_~/)
(IV)Let it soar a-/(V)bove the clouds / (6_.46_8_/7_6_5_~/)
(IV)Let it (V)sing its /(I)song out loud / (6_.45_7_/8_5_8_~/)
(IV)6__(V)7__/(I)8__~~/

(I)I wonder what it’s like to /fly (5_335356/5__~')
(V)Feel the world go racing /by / (22225_6_/7__~~/)
(IV)Seen the others /(V)roll and tumble (6_.46_4_/5_7_5_~/)
(IV)But here I (V)sit crushed and /(I)humble / (6_465_75/3__~~/)

(I)Fight with every bloody si-/new (5_335356/5__~')
(V)See beyond bars holding /you (22225_6_/7__~~/)
(IV)Every bird must /(V)stretch its wings (6_.46_4_/5_7_5_~/)
(IV)And Liber-(V)ty makes all men /(I)kings / (6_465527/1__~~/)

Hmmmn...
Which version came first, Guy?
It seems to me that the rhythm of the SUNO version doesn't quite fit...
So, you tried to fix it with your ukulele smile

Interesting lyric,

Great Job!

I like it Guy. What's the copyright on Dan Brady?
My wife likes the suno version and wants to sing it at Friday Open Mic downtown.

The Suno version sounds very smooth and professional but it's not able to sense when to increase its intensity. The lyrics of the chorus seems to call for a shift to a defiant mood, a break from the tone of the verse. Is there a way to tell the robot that? (I'm sure that if Bill's wife sings it, she won't need told LOL)

@japov these are 2 different versions. Mine was first.
I like the melody of Suno but I prefer the melody of my chorus.

@Bill If your wife sings it, please try to get a recording and put it here.
Dan Brady told me that he liked my version before the Suno one.

@Gavin I don't try to understand what Suno can do. I like the arrangement but I still prefer to make my own melodies.

Have fun!

Me thinks the suno version came first, Guy never picks on his Uke lol.

The suno version is really good I think might have a little blackbird in it.

But it's a pretty lyric, that's why it was turned into a nice tune.

I have worked on my own melody before asking Suno to generate it's melody.

Someone on Muse wrote this:
That's great, Guy! Interesting to compare the real version and the fake version. Thanks.

It's more fun to get my own melody than let it done by AI although it may sound better...

Well, my wife is outspoken/reactive regards the fake and phony of the world. The internet abounds. But i continue to spend time with the fake and phony, and I played the suno version of this song for her, and wonder of wonder ..she like!

So now I'd like to explore both versions of this poetic iteration The Wee Bird....and I thank Guy and Brad for allowing access.
Guy has charted his melody. I'll start with that.
Next I'll go figure the chords and melody of the suno.

I like this project personally, because it is at the very intersection of computer generated and real people generated. Of course the computer is just an extension of human. But the song must come through to humans to achieve its artistic realization.

Keep it simple and singable....and take ye to a open mic!

You can put that Open Mic venue in the Canada thread down the page so when Canadians come looking at JPFolk, likely to click on the Canada thread, they find mention of the local current event.

AI seems to do the same thing some singer/Song Writers do, jam the words into a 'space' as if the goal is to get to the end of the Line without delay. Some syllables/notes work better if given more emphasis than all the others. Listen to some people speak and note their voice rising and falling in pitch, 'notes' held for longer duration, clipped short in duration, the pauses (rests), the conversational style that also 'works' in delivery of the Melody and Lyric of a Song.

Interesting you call it open mic...thanks....no wait....you refer to the venue...yes right. We moved our venue just recently....the place was losing money and sold. We moved to a new venue called the rebel garage....but its not easy getting it on video. if we do....good idea to post it in canadian section.
