I know, who???? He's been a fixture in NYC underground music for a long time. Believe he started as a punk rocker at 14.
Decades later still indie and unknown... seemingly.
He's been a favorite of mine for a while and recently he had a spinal stroke.
A benefit and an album of covers of his sings was released
Never think an indie doesn't have influence.....

Bruce, billy joe Armstrong, counting crows, lucinda Williams, graham parker, the guy is known and well known. Shocking to me I thought he was just an indie. But I always thought he was a great songwriter, so do mega artists....
I met him in my had no idea he was that respected.
I guess ....with millions u can buy privacy I reckon. bothered by what ? admiration ? poor babies . Yes these people love me , Well time to fly in a private jet to the Bahamas .Ahh the rigors of stardom . tell that maid to fold down my sheets . Should I bring my harem ? So exhausting .I'd rather be living in poverty .
I know (in person) a few thousand artists who are STILL making a full time living without anyone knowing who they are. That is no easy task. With no CD's to sell and without friends like Bruce Springsteen etc. they still find ways to do it.
This guy may not be known by the public, but when you are in a circle that includes THOSE artists, you are still running in elite circles. I know many artists like that too. They rub elbows with massive Superstars, make a living, do amazing things, but barely anyone knows they exist.
If you want to be a piece of commerce, you have to 1. be connected to elites (or be one) or 2. must be willing to be used and exploited by Elites. There is #3 but that is the toughest place to be. You create your own specific fans base, then serve them entertainment directly, without the middle people. We've been teaching that stuff for 40 years. I did it myself. Not only have none of you heard my music, none of you have even asked in all these years. That's okay with me as this Org. has supported me parallel to my music. This website, not so much. I have tried to have a place for those who don't play live or mix it up with other musicians much in real life. I value everyone is a creator and have given back for my blessings by having this up here for folks. Even the ones who don't like me. As long as they leave each other alone.

The dude has tons of great songs. When I met him I thought I was meeting some guy doing a gig... A better than typical gig. But I thought he was just a guy making a few bucks. Or trying to break out

Yeah but I don't think online, the fans you make are real fans. It requires no effort to click a like, or add yourself to an artist fan base.

If somebody gets out of their house and goes to see you at a gig, then that's more a real fan my opinion anyway. I think the Internet is too crowded with millions of artists everywhere.
I think going back to live performance in bars and venues is a new way to build a following suddenly.
Probably live stuff , its a bit crowded on the net , But you can grow a small fan base , it's something to do , besides waiting for the world to end. Some artists got there start on the net like Taylor Swift.
Ya get some real nice fans , some haters , all good. One guy is trying to contact Jelly Roll and sing with him , before he dies of terminal cancer , then you get a few just nice folks , good songs man
I have had people perform in my basement who have been on tour around the world playing massive stadiums as part of famous bands for decades. There are tons of people like this. I will mention 4 awesome artists: Cindy Alexander who tours with The Bacon Brothers every year for 2 decades. Ed Toth who was part of Vertical Horizon who had the #1 song in the world and opened the 30th anniversary show at Woodstock and subsequently he joined the Doobie Brothers who just now are concluding their careers. Next is Marc VonEm who toured (and still does) with Rob Thomas around the world for nearly 2 decades, sometimes opening, but mostly just being part of the band, playing guitar and singing. Lastly is Bob Malone who tours the world on his own but more notably has toured as John Fogerty's keyboard player for about 15-18 years. They just went in the studio for a new album. These people have all played many dozens of our JPF shows around the country for the past 30 years and also have played at my house as well. It is kind of surreal to see them at major venues with 70K+ at arena shows. I saw Bob play Radio City Music Hall one year and got to hang backstage with all world drummer Kenny Aronoff and briefly with John Fogerty. They are all just regular people. Many do benefits to help fellow artists in trouble. None of they hang with Springsteen, but then BS isn't the end all for most people like he is for some here. I had backstage passes to hang with the E Street Band the year Bruce toured "Born in the USA" and gave them away. He just never appealed to me. He was playing the Hoosier Dome (where the Colts played). They have since built a new stadium.

You act like all these other artists don't do the same thing? I have hung with all sorts of big named artists, and I have countless friends who are friends with just about any of them. Nils Lofgren is a JPF member and multiple awards nominee. I have chatted with him on the phone. Most musicians are just regular people behind the scenes. A lot of them are shy, that is always surprising, when they can be monsters on stage and blend in with a wall in the dressing room. Sure, there are a few ass-es. But most I have ever run into (minus a couple nutbags) have been super nice. I have gotten to hang at some of their houses (in this case because I am good friends with their good friend, I don't have a ton of massive stars I am that close with anymore (as several have sadly passed away) but I have tons of friends who are directly connected to high profile famous artists. One of my wife's best friends plays guitar with Boston. I spoke with Brad Delp sadly the day before he passed about his side project album he had entered into our awards. (still haunts me). There's only 1 superstar I had really bad experiences with and he is a famous ass to everyone. Most have local artists they are friends with near where they live or grew up. It's really common and normal. People blow these folks up like they are superhuman. They really are "Just Plain Folks." (sometimes in both contexts). We had a hugely famous artist who used ot post here anonymously and there are people still on this site who interacted with him without knowing it. The funniest thing was when a big discussion was happening and coincidentally his name came up and for fun he chimed in and was told he didn't know what he was talking about when he was literally the guy being discussed. He found it hilarious. I miss those days, but alas...

What an amazing talent...singing, harmonies, writing, performing. He already had a good solo career and played fur neil younger crazy horse before joining Bruce.
Bruce coined him" the most overqualified back up guitarist in the world, and the Godfather if the guitar
He plays several instruments masterfully.
This solo is when I realized how awesome he is bit just jamming ut playing to the song, combination of technique and soul and emotion

We tried to get him to perform at our 2009 music awards show, but he was out on tour. For a short time we thought he might be able to do it, which is when we spoke on the phone, but we had to lock the date down in Nashville at the Wildhorse Saloon and it was a conflict for him. He was super nice. I think one of the studio guys we hired to be the backing band that night had worked with him. I tried to remember who, but I just can't recall that much detail post strokes sadly.
