Hello All I was diagnosed with the onset of vascular dementia and Alzsheimers about 4 years ago. Medication, family support and determination has helped but sadly there's no cure. A guy I grew up with got the same diagnosis as myself but his issues are further advanced. This is what came out of a visit to his place. https://www.soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14873601Vocal Mike Heron writing credit John Vaughan CAN SEE IN YOUR EYES Intro] In this quiet room, the light's so soft Memories gather, some cherished, some lost We grew up wild, like the winds in the pines Living on laughter, stealing moments in time [Verse] Summer nights we'd get lost in the fields Chasin' dreams, never knowing what's real With the wind in our hair and stars overhead We found ourselves in stories we'd read [Chorus ] Can see in your eyes, your memories fading I've known you so long seen those changes. Can see in your eyes, your fighting to recall but times I know, we both shared them all [Verse] A song for you my old friend for when memories come to an end Let's have a drink, let's sit a spell we've got so many stories to tell We were never rich, fought being poor threadbare carpets on the floor (This line was changed) [Verse] Our mothers would talk, shared their fears hopes, inspirations for our future years We ran with the boys, but weren't so bad friends we both knew were the best to be had. [Chorus] Can see in your eyes, your memories fading I've known you so long seen those changes Can see in your eyes, your fighting to recall but times I know, we both shared them all Instrumental [Bridge] You were tough as they come, never backed down to ev'ry one of those fools and clowns Some fights you can't win,but I'll be by yourside Pick up your glass get that drink down [Chorus] Can see in your eyes, your memories fading I've known you so long seen those changes Can see in your eyes, your fighting to recall but times I know, we both shared them all Instrumental [Tag] I'll leave you now, you need your sleep These old photographs I'd like you to keep I've written their names in case you'll forget So many memories, a few regrets
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde

John The song is beautiful. So is your willingness to visit with the other man and put the experience to words and a tune. Keep writing and playing. From everything that I have read, engaging musical structures resists the disease.
With regard,
Marty

This is so typically you - simple folky melody, relatable lyrics. A nice take on a difficult subject. Well done. The opening instrumental seems to start a little abruptly as though the start has been cut off and I'm not sure about the placement of that long instrumental before the first chorus, but the song itself - great! All my best wishes. I think Martin is right. Keep writing. And not just because we want to hear more from you
