I don't dictate to her . she's concert violist . She'll feel something. Shut up and get out her way .

I graduated with a Master Diploma from Kharkiv National University of Arts ( one of the prestigious music school in Ukraine)

Me and my cowboy chord inversions . Nope I shut up .

This is pretty in its own way. Somewhat unique for here. Worthy of comment, I thought.
(And this site is uncharacteristically serene and productive for the moment)

Imo, the guitar melody is too prominent and solo-istic to make room for another instrument. Even one that is just adding texture.
There are spots where this backs off a little bit. Maybe in those spots, an instrument could come up.

I think that a violin might have a compatibility problem.
A flute might seem forced into the mix
Steel pedal might work on a limited basis.

Your tune, your call. I really dont know. I'd have to try something and see if it worked.

If you can use a midi controller and a DAW, there is a free program called Spitfire-BBC that is incredibly easy to use and allows you to experiment with orchestral strings.

I'm not a big fan of machines Sunset , She graduated with a Master Diploma from Kharkiv National University of Arts ( one of the prestigious music school in Ukraine. A concert Violist.

Like the Bach On A Dirt Road : she will add her touch to this . Here's the problem with artists in other countries . You can't sit all together and work parts .
So I have to rely on what she can do from 10,000 miles away . I have a soft for her , she's in a war torn country . That is why I use her.

will see what bombs flying does for this song . As of now its counter balance of that soft E chord riff walk down , to attacking it in the middle . But that is a good idea to mention to her how to approach it . soft Attack soft attack

come to think about it , this AI started with all these machines and plug -ins . So I don't use them, As far as players . Mix ?, the do all this AI stuff.

Thanks for the imput man

Ben

You are welcome for the input.

Imo, You may as well get used to machines. They are here and coming on.

With SPITFIRE and a MIDI controller, you are still composing the melody lines. It is not being done for you with a few prompts.
It gives you the ability to experiment as much as possible with the sounds, without paying anyone including a studio.

And then you have the option of using the melody line that you produce or giving it to a musician as a general guide.

Like you, I am 71. I used to go to studios and record the GV and then pay session musicians for parts. Costs me about $1200-1500 a song.
Then came the "machines" and hybrid options. Now I can use VSTs and a controller and a piano roll...and work up parts until I like them, not paying any studio time.

I am finishing up a song where I am vocals, rythm guitar and a very good local guitarist is doing solos and fills. And then there are VST's. All done from my house.
I can use VSTs and a controller and a piano roll...and work up parts until I exhaust the process...at no cost.

I get your solidarity with the session musicians.

Dom has decided that AI is a direct extension of him. I disagree with that. Exclusively using AI defers the heavy lifting to the software.
You have decided that AI and all software is evil and crushing the proletariat musician. Your stance is to refuse to use. I see that as depriving yourself of benefit and cursing the inevitably oncoming dawn.

I have decided to be somewhere in between.
MIke Z produced one of my songs with "machines." I sent his work to Nashville for guitar fills and they told me that Brent Mason executed the fills.

Marty has the right idea...
But, instead of "VSTs and Controllers", why not a user friendly DAW with everything you need already built in? And, instead of a controller, why not a decent USB keyboard with even more voice options?

GarageBand / LogicX

For the price of one "Pro Demo"...

That is how I do it.
My DAW is Studio-One-6-Professional.

It comes with a lot of resident VSTs, but there are multitudes of "plug-ins" out there to choose from. There is a real good one that I am looking at on YouTube now, called IMPACT that does Pedal Steel from a MIDI controller, which is a USB keyboard by another name.

I think that you and I are talking about the same things.

From where I sit...nothing. They have the big money and influence that comes with it, so their concerns are the paramount concerns, if not the only concerns.

But my concerns are enhancing the enjoyment of a passionate personal hobby. DAWS and VSTs have added hours of deeply in-the-moment enjoyment to my hobby. I recommend it.

Once again...nice tune.

Enjoy your day. I hope that the fish are biting. wink

Thanks Adam-
That did the trick. FWIW, I have a ridiculously expensive signal path- great mics, pres, converters- the works. I still get noise. We all do. At least you have talent on your side!!! 🙂 Love what you've been playing. so its gear Sunset.. I don't wanna invest in all that , studios are easier.

You went back and edited this with additional text. When I saw it, a question came to mind.
I should not ask it, but I sincerely would like to know the answer. So I'm going to set aside better judgement and do so.
It is truly a sincere question.

Are you actually as nutty as a squirrel turd?
Or just putting on an act and having fun with it?

No thanks. I think that would be an aggressive exercise in stupidity. My name and occupation, which leads to a website are all here in recent posts.
If anyone wants to run that down and call me, I'll pick up. But I am not initiating a call.

I would be more than happy with a sincere answer to the question here. This site is where "crazy" and "dysfunction" are enabled and fostered. The rest of my life is not. wink

Architect.
We have different goals. I've no desire to do multiple songs a month. I always have regrets about songs that I do fast. I prefer to string them out and return to them multiple times with fresh ears. No one is waiting for my stuff. I have no reason to impose quotas on myself. I write them at the rate that maximizes enjoying the process.

As for heart surgery, my sympathies. At 71, a person perpetually waits for the next shoe to drop health wise, knowing that the final shoe is coming into range.
Glad you're doing fine.

https://hearthis.at/elvis-nash-xk/adam-song-midnite-on-the-moon-1/HxI/

thats work tape , I told Adam run progression twice around , Same thing , But he's is cleaner in a studio, some Adam ideas , and done. All 4 songs were done that way . 4 weeks for ideas playing all day , 1 week turn around on each song . Next song . that was the first one , any other questions ? What's the logic ? Faster turn around time .

I like how she interpreted the guitar...I think, however, the violin is a little dominant and not a compliment....nice decision to use her , Elvis
Just some thoughts

Creators of music have a responsibility to their craft. When they have finished using all the notes and words, they must pass them down to the next generation with a simple request. “Use these to create new music.”...Steven McDonald
