Way Past Forgive V1 I’m leaving now I’ve got to be gone Been taking up space Way too long V2 I hate it but It’s the right thing to do And it’s not about Trying to hurt you Trying to hurt you Chorus You’d be crazy to stick with me The life I need’s not ours to live Walk away, get yourself free ‘Cause where we are is way past forgive Way past forgive Solo V3 I’ve got ruts in my road From time after time They're not pretty But I’ll claim them as mine V4 They are the ones That killed the dream And took away All self esteem All your self esteem Chorus You’d be crazy to stick with me The life I need’s not ours to live Walk away, get yourself free ‘Cause where we are is way past forgive Yeah we’re way past forgive Way past forgive

Hi Steve,
I like the verses. The chorus threw my idea of the story line, and I wondered where the two people lived. Is the singer leaving the physical location, or is he asking the other to leave (walk away).
I was wondering also why its way past forgiveness......and thought.....maybe forgiveness has nothing to do with it....the whole problem is more a clash of lifestyles.
But I just throw those thoughts out there not really knowing if I am on the right interpretive track.
if so, possibly...a bridge to clarify ?
Bill

Hi Bill Thanks for the read...appreciated
It’s just a guy leaving and having a conversation with the woman...blaming himself for what’s happened (V3) and you’re right about a clash of lifestyles “The life I need’s not ours to live”....probably a selfish kinda guy that she always seemed to forgive...and he’s now looking at himself and what he’s done to her maybe emotionally.... and he can’t go down the road anymore of her continuing to forgive...”way past forgive”....he knows who he is and he’s telling her he’s not good for her..”You’d be crazy to stick with me”
“I’ve got ruts in my road from time after time” may be years of treating her badly(he took away her self esteem)..which would come with maybe years of forgiveness
I’m probably not going to write a bridge for this
Steve

Hey Elvis Thanks for the read and comment...appreciated...I though about it but forgiveness is what happens whereas forgive is what is said...IMO forgive is the stronger word when sung....

I don't think its proper grammar.. forgive is (singular) ‘Cause where we are, were way past forgiveness . (Plural) . I think lol

Hey Elvis...forgive is the verb...forgiveness is the noun...so it can't be the plural of forgive...verbs aren't pluralized....they denote action or a state of being..."I am" Forgiveness itself is singular...The plural of forgiveness I assume is forgivenesses....although it would seldom be used I would think
what the guy is saying is they're way past her always saying "I forgive you" And you're correct, I could have said "we're way past forgiveness"

Well then it works , The phrase just sounds funny with forgive , Id have to hear it. This sounds more natural ."we're way past forgiveness"
Yeah grammar books .. The plural of forgiveness I assume is forgivenesses. I reckon lol. Maybe its "Were way past to forgive "

Maybe this will help a little better....lets say you're the guy and you tell the woman it's over and she says Elvis I FORGIVE you for the 50th time and your response is baby we're way past "FORGIVE" it's time to move on...lol
Steve PS it also has to rhyme with "live" 2 lines above...lolol

I think with a hook like that, it could be alot better.
As is it reads like a " I'm moving on" song
What happened to the singer that he got to the point of beyond forgiveness?
Seems there musta been some serious scars and baggage goin on.
Simply saying... No no now, were past forgive, the listener doesn't know what's going on, even if you do
Don't waste a great hook
