A song about constantly being asked what you are thinking, as if you might be hiding something. When in fact, you are not really thinking about anything.

https://maccharles.bandcamp.com/track/shine-your-light

Shine your light

why do we walk around in my head,
why don't we walk around yours instead,
pick up a trail of questions there's no answers to-

you should know that what's mine is yours,
but there's a reason I lock those doors,
banana peels and greased up floors to wander through-

you make my head feel strange,
all the furniture rearranged,
shine your light, where you like-

you read between the lines on my face,
not many have seen this place,
most vanish without a trace just short of here-

open the windows in an empty room,
stand in the middle with a pail and broom,
check every corner and wonder why there's nothing there-

you make my head feel strange,
all the furniture rearranged,
shine your light, where you like-

Yep, being able to simply shut off my brain is definitely a male attribute and prerogative smile

Mac, you're a hell of a solid songwriter. Beautiful melody and harmony and I really dug the restrained guitar solo. Sometimes less is more and it fit in perfectly with vibe of the song. If I was going to offer any critique it would be to maybe throw some ride or crash cymbals in there once in a while to liven up the background a bit. I think a ride could fit in nicely with the kind of jazzy feel of the song.

Such a simple concept for a lyric makes for some juicy lines.

I think the lyric can be more generally thought of as being about "unbalanced relationships" where, for whatever reason, one party is paying way more close attention to the other than the other, and you find a through-line to some great imagery to express that--creepiness, for lack of a better word.

The jazzy chords, that blunt "Taxman" guitar style in the right channel, the way the melody works with the lyric, everything works well together.

Love it. smile

There is a chord that transitions the end of your chorus...drops...then another to the chhorus...really like that

altogether easy to listen to...and shows how powerful simple can be

and this line says everything...banana peels and greased up floors to wander through-

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Bruce,

Drums were a sore spot for me back then, I had to settle for an archaic loop system. Thanks for the spin.

Song does it's job, nice to see the lyrics being straight forward enough to get it across. Thank you sir.

Hey Mac.

Another great sounding arrangement--so crisp and delightful musically which contrasts so nicely with your mellow vocals which is one of your trademarks. You have a gift for sure for writing melody that stays with you and doesn't grow boring.

Ahhh, hello Mr. Charles....why did I think I saw you on FAWM?? I was hoping to see something new from you there.

"check every corner and wonder why there's nothing there-"

Amazing how brains work differently. We always think there is more, something that isn't said or hasn't been said yet. A thought not formulated or realized. I love the idea of the mind being converted to a room and thoughts into furniture, or lack of....

This is written so well, the production is very good and this is soothing and laid back, you chose not to make it anxious and I enjoyed it, very clever. My ears are always happy to listen to you again.

Hiya Tammy!!

Long time....

Yes, I investigated FAWM but have done nothing there as yet. My current circumstances keep me from being very productive these days.

I love everything about this, especially the lyric. I mean, the melody, performance and arrangement are great too, but it's the lyric that I'll be thinking about for a while.
