Time.........music/lyrics by: e.swartz A few years back when I was at a dinner banquet walking around before dining I was enjoying seeing the younger folks all dressed up and having a wonderful time engaging in group conversations in every direction I looked. As I walked through the crowds I noticed only middle aged or elderly folks seemed to acknowledge my presence which was fine and certainly is normal. But I just realized how "faceless" I had seemed to become and non-existent by youth. We all have had our youth and it surely is fleeting.....that evening motivated this song, although I am fine with being a gray beard and embrace my future even though the end comes nearer with each passing year! I have a feeling a few of you one time "flirts" can relate to these lyrics! Hope you like the song, and of course comments always welcome.... Credits: Dom Sigalas - orchestration Simon Mimines - drums e.swartz - guitars/vocals/production Time.......Vs 1 Time….elusive and so cruel….it’s true….so true Life….are you satisfied and did you dance today….well okay Chorus 1 You’re more than halfway home And you’re feel’n alone (2nd Ch ----And in your mind you roam) But no one seems to notice, you anymore Vs 2 Style….you always wore that special air, on your sleeve….I do believe Play…. you silly man, your jokes have all grown old….so I’m told (Repeat chorus) Bridge Yesterday when I looked at you You tried to hide your smile But now my eyes find no reply But there’s a young man trapped inside - (flute solo) Vs 3 Greed….I’m sorry that it is my time to bleed….indeed Peace….will tomorrow enlighten, will it comfort me….we’ll see Time……..elusive and so cruel……. its true.....

Yep... A walking cane doesn't help either lol Cool arrangement, I like the orchestral atmosphere. The lyrical pauses are interesting too. Greed and Bleed kinda' seems out of place, even though I understand the train of thought (as an older guy would) Perhaps "Desire?" Nice one Eddie

Hi Eddie,
Beautiful music, vocals, lyrics.
I was listening to "The Left Banke" last night and like theirs, this music's great Baroque Pop sound makes for a very enjoyable listen.

Japov,
Thanks for the listen. As far as the summing of life's expressions, I just didn't want to be generic and more melodramatic I suppose. The greed-bleed line is my favorite line. Sure it rhymes, but my thought process with the lyrics was to be short and expressive without being everyday normal. I think greed and bleed are good analogies of desire & disappointment......and we're not expressing lust or failure, just how "father time" catches us all. Also just kinda poetic, which I'm not known for with most of my lyrics.
Thanks for the comments, always enjoy your posts!

Michael,
Always a pleasure to hear from you. Thank-you for your comments and props. I remember hearing "Don't walk away Rene" for the first time back in the day and being floored with that beautiful song and harmonies. Those groups influenced me how important I perceived melody, which I think is the foundation of a great song.

There it is!! Why am I hearing David Essex here? weird. How the heck are you pulling off those strings? The subject matter makes me think of an old quote from the british author Doris Lessing, about how one simply becomes invisible as they get older, and how freeing it can be. My only issue here is that when the drums kick in, it's almost as if the band either can't hear the drums very well or the other way around. There's a very slight lag on some some of the parts, where the drums seem to be out ahead, just enough to be noticeable.......but I think that's just me being picky. As usual, everything is nice and balanced, and well sewn together. Keep on!!

Mac,
Thanks for the listen and comments! I have a good string-man! FYI, you were correct and THANK-YOU big time for noticing the drum track being off about a 1/32 beat. Fixed.......and new mix uploaded. Its a real drummer and it wasn't his fault, somehow I inadvertently nudged the whole track off without noticing--good ears!
Best,

Hi Ed I always had a different perspective to the younger end ignoring the seemingly invisible older guys. I liked to talk to older people, loved their stories and then take on the current activities of well known figures. Your song is charming rather than maudlin, very well constructed and presented. A great song Ed Regards John

"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
