A piano ballad I wrote. I wish I had a nice story to tell about it but I don't. I wrote it generally about a dreamer who cannot deal with the real world and their partner who has to deal with them. My songwriting tends to be kind of abstract (or is that just a copout? ) What's funny is a relative of mine's son joined the navy recently and she was having a hard time letting him go and she thought I wrote it about them. That's part of what I love about writing and sharing music. People give it their own meaning no matter what you intended. Once it's out there it's not yours anymore. Hope you like it. https://brucetangmusic.com/track/the-sailors-coming-homeThe Sailors Coming HomeVerse 1Wake me up Wake me up to dream again I've been lost in memories that I don't want This real life can't compare to the rainbow's end Golden skies and hearts that mend When broken I don't ever want to heal again So please just turn the lights off for me ChorusEven distant stars can leave a trail that shines So the sailors coming home Can still see the lights upon their boats Verse 2"I'll be right here" That's what you said when I disappeared To God knows where I'm sorry that I'm always gone But this real life isn't what I wanted ChorusEven distant stars can leave a trail that shines So the sailors coming home Can still see the lights upon their boats BridgeAnd as the wind carries me away again Memories like ripples on the sea I remember everything You know you're my everything You were my North Star ChorusEven distant stars can leave a trail that shines So the sailors coming home Can still see the lights upon their boats

why do I hear editors? or even kings of leon? in ballad mode. I'm always hearing other artists, can't help it. This is interesting to say the least, I kept expecting it to really take off, but it stayed subdued (not a bad thing), just an expectation on my end.
The subject matter is familiar to me, we all know the dreamers, myself being one, but some are way out there. "this real life isn't what I wanted" speaks to really wanting to escape big time.
well done, and welcome aboard!!

Sweet! Nice Vox! Consider pulling back a bit on the slide guitar during the bridge, it became a little distracting for me... Play between your vox lines. Great Job! And welcome to JPF Tony

Your song has a powerful melancholic vibe that got under my skin in a good way. Great stuff.

Thanks for the feedback, all why do I hear editors? or even kings of leon? in ballad mode. I'm always hearing other artists, can't help it. Kings of Leon is a new comparison for me but I can see some similarities in our voices, a bit nasally. I liked their first couple of albums and then I don't know what happened to them. Consider pulling back a bit on the slide guitar during the bridge, it became a little distracting for me... Play between your vox lines. For sure. I had a more stripped down version without that guitar part but ultimately decided I like the texture it brings to the bridge. It could probably be pushed back a bit though. Mixing/mastering is a never ending journey for the DIY musician. Your song has a powerful melancholic vibe that got under my skin in a good way. Great stuff. Thanks! Melancholic is kind of my default songwriting mode. I don't think I've ever written a happy song. You'd think I'm clinically depressed or something with the way I write but I'm generally pretty happy in real life. Just comes out in the music.

Very nice Bruce---felt the outro was not really needed, but it did sculpt the piano melody very nicely...and yeah, welcome aborad
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Great atmosphere in this song, thanks to a really strong vocal performance and production which the simple arrangement allows to shine. Very impressive. Nice dreamy visuals too.

"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
