Good music is still being made, you just need to let it find you.
Madison Cunningham. Her work speaks for itself, pretty amazing in my book.
Dizzy mizz lizzy. Danish band, been around quite a while now, but still kicking ass.
Rain opera. Once upon a time, I started a project with an old friend named Segrid Coleman and named it rain opera. Then I got sick and could not carry that torch any longer, but segrid carries on in grand fashion.
Lord huron. Love the huron vibe.
James Mcmurtry. Another established artist that has been around for sometime now, but still singing it plain. JPF note: Vic sounds similar, to my ears anyway.
Mike lindup. Long standing keyboard and vocals for level 42, many are unaware of his solo output.
Tons of great music out there, we just dont hear most of it. Fortunately for us, we can hear stuff we hear about for free, unfortunate for the artist who wont get paid for it.
So in a way it's easier to be heard and even somewhat famous, it's just hard to make money at the same time.
Im a huge fan of this guy Jesse Malin. Everytime i search him on youtube he has more songs/videos posted, just slays it every one of them. really good. Used to be in a punk rock band at like age 14, been an indie in NY ever since. Not afraid to have fun either...
There is more great music being made now than ever in history. There is also more bad music being made. The tools are cheap or free and that is a great thing. Music should have never been about commerce. The gift of making even "bad" music is just too valuable to humans. Let us celebrate all of it rather than judge it based on money and fame.

"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
