Hi all, Julia and Monsieur Gontrand sing this french bossa. https://soundcloud.com/christian-devienne/mon-quartier-latin-avec-julia-et-monsieur-gontrandHere's a translation of the lyrics : My latin quarter Has no city soul It's a big garden Perched on a hill Musical garden The atmosphere is there serene The friendly welcome Bossa is the queen there A silver flute Some nylon strings A light piano Some percussion With feline treads The melody walks And on its way The garden lights up The rhythm establishes itself Gently, without forcing And the bodies that dare Allow themselves to dance La la ya la la ya La la ya la la ya La la ya la

"I speak one language, poorly." Pablo Casals.
I too, speak one language, poorly, so I can't 'receive' the Hook Factor of the words as they are 'spoken' and sung, but the quietude of the vocal delivery, the spoken yet melodic first lines, the calm, then the girl's voice, so quiet, so simply 'saying', the harmony part comes, and it has allure.
It replayed. And replayed, before some other music played. I found myself more attentive, the flute filling spaces. Very pleasant. Explore your 'local' television market for the music that plays in the background, advertising, shows. Somewhere there is a visual product that wants this audio product to enhance its appeal.
In the fantasy of my mind a girl walks with me through your Latin Quarter 'garden'. The Sunstar is going down. We walk. At her home she makes it clear, tells me, she wants to be kissed...goodnight...or goodbye.
I pull her to me! She gasps! I turn her, point out the spider lowering itself on a thread, backlit through the translucent yellow glass of her door, right where she had been standing!
I give her the kiss, perhaps not the one she desires, one just behind her right ear. She turns in my arms, and takes the kiss, the kisses she desires. We stop. Someone is coming down the hallway inside the house, I see through the translucent glass.
"My Mother," she pronounces, steals another kiss, two, steps up on the landing. The door opens behind her. Will it be goodbye? Or good night? I stand, in wonder of her, her wholeness of beauty and light, wondering.
"Good night," she speaks, almost a whisper. She turns, goes in, turns, looks out once again, her smile breaking into a grin, as she closes the door.
I want to walk back, through her garden.
Your song has created a world!
"Je parle une langue, mal." Pablo Casals.

I'm hearing some very syncopated "off-beat" percussion in my head with light rim taps instead of quick snare brushes. Or, perhaps some taps on the rhythm guitar

Nice gentle song. I'm not a fan of the bossa rhythm but I enjoyed this. In places it made me think of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin (without the English accent, of course). I particularly liked the flute in the background.

Chris,
A very pleasant listen for sure! It would make a great soundtrack as it just feels like it could support a scenario--stage or commercial. Nice contrasting vocals for the romantic duet! Definitely reminds me of a 70's Latin type tune.
I like the flute. It could handle maybe a couple of the guitar answers for change-up. Near the end however, the flute sort of "competes" with the vocals----maybe at that juncture have the flute automated a bit lower in volume and perhaps panned further from the vox placements. I've in the past with a supporting instruments created a 2nd track where I could pan the same instrument in different areas for this reason or wanting to distance that instrument or for even bringing that same instrument more center for a solo perhaps. Also adding a little more reverb on the flute could keep it feeling a little further back in the mix.......experiment--not a big deal, only suggestion for a polishing touch.
