"Go On And Cry"
Words & Music by Tom Tognaci

https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14527131

Hey, what's that you said?
What you gonna do when they kick you out of bed?
Say what! Come again?
What you gonna do when the big man hauls you in?
You say that's nothing new
but what you gonna do when the hammer falls on you?

Well....you're gonna cry a lie
and you'll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry

Hey, what's that you said?
Just let them eat cake, if they're running out of bread
Say what! Come again?
You got your megaphone, and the press core's listening in
You say new
but what you gonna do if the ink gets spilled on you?

Well....you're gonna cry a lie
and you'll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry

A big shot. A fat cat
you keep your nails clipped and your cash in the laundromat
Say what! Now, come again?
There's no telling what kind of dirt your hands been in
You say that's nothing new
but what you gonna do when your whitewash launders you?

Well....you're gonna cry a lie
and you'll make some fool hearts weep
But gator tears are sly
Go on and cry

Hello Friend, so good to see you again!!

I agree it has a Dylan vibe to it. I really like the harmonies and playing, I think the melody matches the tone of the lyric. I have missed hearing you.

Such a cool piece of writing, Tom.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hello Tom! Merry belated Christmas! Sorry it took me so long for me to listen to your new song. I was without power and finally got dug out after our recent blizzard. This one was worth waiting for! I have always admired your song writing, but this might be my favorite of yours. Lyrics and music drew me in immediately and your vocals were spot on as always! The harmonies are really impressive. I can hear a brief acoustic lead in my head playing... good stuff!

Hey Tom,

I enjoyed your song--very cool indeed--lyrics as well. I do feel your chorus feels more digressive like a bridge, but its also nice not to see every song written on a predictable canvas. When I listened the 3rd time to this song......I feel like you might experiment some more with a the middle chords on your chorus. I dig the first chord that launches this chorus and the sustained ending which allows a good return bouncing back to your verse melody. The middle chorus melody.......I think you can "perhaps" tweak so that it doesn't resolve musically so quickly? Just a thought?

Definitely a song that keeps you listening--nice rendition with this vs Dylanesk vibe for sure.

Happy New Year, Eddie.............I'm not sure what you are describing about the chorus. Others, like yourself, has mentioned a "tick" with the same thing. In my mind, the chorus is as close to perfect as I had envisioned it. I'd have to hear the changes you suggest in order to understand the problem.
With that said, Hoping you have a great year, and hope to hear more from you!

Hey Tom...

The right drums would bring the energy up...I think it would serve the tune more than the shaker. This song has the potential for what I call in music "Oomph". But without the drums, not sure everyone hears it...I do...

Gator tears...LOVE IT

How's it going, Steve? Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment. I agree with your comments. My recordings don't very often turn out like the music in my head. For one, the organ sound was to be a steel guitar......and it turned out too monotonous. Drums would be great.......but, I don't work with loops, and the like, anymore.
A band would be GREAT. I don't have one of those, as well.
I hear ya...............and it sounds that you understand me pretty well.
Thanks, and have a great new year!!
