Veteran Ohio Valley Hardcore band, New Clear Future returns to Athens Ohio on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Smiling
Skull Saloon on W. Union St.
Originally born in the basements of Ravenswood WV in early 2005, NCF relocated to Athens’ west side at the beginning of the 05 fall semester. It was during this time the band recorded their 10 track demo and began to make a name for themselves playing shows at their Washington St house, Arts/West and eventually becoming a staple at Skatopia. It was there that New Clear Future’s brand of angsty and politically charged hardcore punk gained them the attention of diy promoters in Columbus that then provided a pipeline into the Ohio Hardcore scene. NCF would also travel with the Skatopia/CIA crew to provide the soundtrack to skate comps from Canton to Kentucky.
The band later relocated to Huntington WV where they ignited a whole new generation of Ohio Valley hardcore bands before finally calling it quits in 2010.
The 2020 Covid lockdowns re-sparked an idea with the remaining members who had settled back in Ravenswood to re-form for the sole purpose of putting four a professional recording of legacy songs. What resulted was an 11 song collection featuring old as well as brand new tracks recorded at Athens’ own Amish Electric Chair. This accomplishment spiraled into a full on musical project fueled by a new clear outlook on life and music. 2022 birthed the release of the album titled “The Past Follows” available online and CD as well as a debut show in Cleveland back in August. New Clear Future is now currently working on new material and booking shows to prove that this is no longer a “reunion” but a full on project.
On December 9, 2022, OU’s last day of fall semester classes before winter break, NCF will return to Athens by headlining a show at The Smiling Skull Saloon with friends, Rat Ship from Huntington WV, Mad World from Chillicothe, and Athens’ own Rat Faced Bastards. Show starts at 10pm, $5 gets you in the door. This event is proudly brought to you be Dead Sailin Fanzine, the mid Ohio valley’s source of underground hardcore punk/bmx/skateboard culture.
