Viking rock arose during the early 1990s, and incorporates elements of punk, rock, and Swedish folk music, with lyrical themes drawn from Norse mythology, Scandinavian history, and modern nationalism. Mjölnerella began as a concept in 2017 between Allegra Geller, who studied Swedish music and history at Uppsala University, and Mortuz Denatus of Mist of Misery. They were joined by Viking rock legend Mjölner in 2022 and recording began that spring at Anom512 Studio in Austin, Texas, and Forlorn Halls II in Sweden. The band released their first single "Heroes' in September 2022. The full EP ‘Hjältar’ will be released in October 2022.
