Every now and then, I'll set up a couple of mics in the living room, grab an acoustic and go through a list of songs raw. This is one of those recordings of a song from 2006. "Misery" https://maccharles.bandcamp.com/track/miseryDoes it sound muddy? Or passable for what it is?

It doesn't sound muddy to me, listening through headphones. Very nice. It does seem just a little bit long, probably because of the long intro and instrumental interludes between vocal parts. The upside of that is that it builds anticipation for the chorus so that it feels really good when it bursts on the scene. Enjoyed the listen

Hi Mac. Not muddy but maybe you could dial up the vocal a couple of db.
Good one.

Thanks gavin, I should have known not to play the band arrangement with intro and solo section, maybe I'll try an edit.

Aha, that's the band arrangement. The song would be completely different with more instruments in those parts

Very nice song. Pleasant music and appealing vocal tone.
Made me recall Billy Joel's "Honesty" at the chorus.
Songwriting suggestion would be to condense the verses that precede the chorus so that the chorus arrives sooner.
Enjoyed listening.

Very clean, nice tone, great vox That odd note you're playing pre-chorus is a very bold choice lol... Gm6 would make a nice alt... 3X2333

Hey Mac,
A very pleasant listen. I love the crisp acoustic tone along with your mellow vocals--a great contrast. I think this song feels like a sparse arrangement will enhance the lyrics and mood. I could hear some fluttering flute runs here and there would be a nice touch--maybe a subtle bass track, but just sounds so good you and guitar! I reckon for pitching you may want it shorter, but longer version still kept my attention.

Sunset, yep...I just went into auto pilot and played the band arrangement, leaving intro and solo section open.....made it too long for an acoustic thing.

Eddie, thanks for the spin.....no real plans to pitch it anywhere, just for my own library.

Really nice Mac.
And that "weird chord" is a great signal something special is coming and it did...leave it to JAPOV to know exactly what is going on as he probably picked up his gear to find his alt
If there is one suggestions, it is less music between the two verse lines...melding them in a sense, and spending some time on music after...that will shorten the time I expect
Nevertheless, I like this a lot. Glad you shared it
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Thanks John, seems the band arrangement should be avoided on acoustic tracks.

This song tells me you know exactly what your doing...a great sense of melody, really nice vocal and I love the use of dissonance to capture the mood perfectly. This is just an excellent song.

Mr. Charles.......how are you doing sir?
I am so happy to hear you are on Bandcamp, I have followed you and hope you will look for me (Tammy Jann). Love hearing your voice and art again...it has been too long. What wonderful chording and vocal on this. I enjoyed being in your creative space again.

First of all, the recording sounds just fine. I wish my recordings sounded this bad. LOL! Only two very minor things I noticed. The guitar sequence just prior to the chorus (which was beautiful by the way) sounded like you unintentionally hit the wrong chord. It just sounded so out of place with such an otherwise smooth performance and recording. Also, the intro seemed a bit long to me but that is a personal preference. Over all this is a wonderfully written recorded and performed song!

Tom, the things you noticed, I have now noticed but have not corrected yet. Thanks for the listen and taking a moment to comment!
