I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT

c2021 Brian Beecher

What makes you feel relaxed and pampered
Isn’t anywhere around me
While you say you’re trying to be practical

You’ll treat a friend to lunch on Friday
On a day off from the office
You don’t seem to want to be near me at all

Without breaking the bank you’re doing well
And you no longer need me I can tell

But I was much too busy working
And in the evenings I would wander
Into the world of dancing ladies
With their sparkling golden hair

I came home much too late to love you
And so my actions sealed my fate
But I should have known that, it’s too late

I’m now dealing with some anxiety
And a feeling of being stuck now
In the past remembering how life used to be

You had the desire to move one way
In headed in another direction
So there’s really no one else to blame but me

Like an irritating pebble in your shoe
You had to take me out cause I wasn’t true

Cause I was much too busy working
And in the evenings I would wander
Into the world of dancing ladies
With their sparkling golden hair

I came home much too late to love you
And so my actions sealed my fate
But I should have known that, it’s too late

I’ll use the morning to catch up on some work
And then maybe go out and buy a new shirt
Something to chase away the memories
Of one for whom I had failed to please
Cause I was much too busy working
And in the evenings I would wander
Into the world of dancing ladies
With their sparkling golden hair

I came home much too late to love you
And so my actions sealed my fate
But I should have known that, it’s too late
