Hi everyone, I've been away for a while for many reasons unrelated to this site. I hope everyone has been well since I was here last.

I wrote this song in stages: the music 40 years ago, the words 20 years ago and now, I'm working on a middle 8 and want to record it on
my brand-new TASCAM DP-32SD using my somewhat new Taylor 326CE Baritone 8 string guitar.

Before I start this venture, I'd love to hear your two cents. I'm going to make the chorus much more dynamic with drums and heavy guitarwork
and I will do my best with the vocals after I figure out how to get the TASCAM TM-80 microphone to work better.

Anyway, here it is. Thanks in advance for the listen:

Everything seems to be working fine to me... May just be the ambience where you're recording making your vox sound "boxy" but that's an easy fix. Just drop your Eq between 100/300 about 3 Db and cut the low end up to about 80.

You're off to an interesting start! 40yrs ago eah? smile

Hi JAPOV,

Nice talking to you again.

Yeah, time flies. Marriage and children became a priority over all other things (including music). Now I'm going over all the stuff I wrote back then
and I'm trying to figure out which ones to dust off and record. This one's 40 years old (and getting older), but I thought it might be interesting to mess
with again.

Thank you for your advice. (At least I've got modern recording toys and new guitar to play with).

Dan

Hi Dan
Welcome back smile
I really like that phaser or whatever effect on the guitar and your vocals sound good too.
My only nit is the word "Invisible" has a prosody issue I think.

Well worth dusting off IMO.

Hi Paul,

I'm very happy to be back. I hope you've been well since I was here last.

I recorded this about 15 years ago. The effect was definitely a phaser, but I can't remeber if I used Cakewalk Sonar or it was
through an old effects processor I have, but it's definitely a phaser.

Do you have any advice regarding the prosody issue for the word "Invisible"? This is a perfect time for me to flush it out.

Thank you for your kind words and for taking your time to listen and respond.

Dan

You have the "In" part of invisible on the down beat - so it is emphasized, but in conversation, it's the "vis" part that is emphasized.
If you could add another adjective before the word "Invisible" I think it would be fixed.
Like "old invisible" or "so invisible with the "So" on the downbeat.

Of course, if you are John Mellencamp (Jack and Diane) you might get away with it as is. smile

I like the sound and lyric fit real well. Harmony at the end is really good. Consider putting same harmony at the beginning maybe?
Good stuff.

Hi Paul,

Yeah, I understand now. I've never really viewed the lyrics out of the context of the melody.

This kind of reminds me of how native Southerners in the U.S. pronounce insurance and INsurance and people up north (in the North East, where I'm
originally from) pronounce it inSURance.

But I think I have a solution and I'll plug that in, especially since I'm certainly no John Mellencamp. Great song of his, by-the-way!

Thanks again,

Dan

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the compliments.

I hadn't thought of adding harmony at the beginning, but, after reading your suggestion, I'm startng to hear some ideas in my head.
(When the voices stop, of course).

I will definitely do that. It sounds like a nice challenge.

Thanks for the tip, Bill!

Dan
