I have some soundtracks of demos that were done by pro studios back a number of year when studios use to use cassette to mail out the demos, this was before CDs which give a much clearer sound. There is a bit of hiss that was acceptable back then before CDs spoiled us. Is there a way studios can remove that background sound these days. I know they can do a lot of things these days, is this one of them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vZihqnDMG4Hope this helps Everett. Unfortunately, from what I've read, getting rid of hiss, destroys the warmth that is so liked in analog recording. Good luck, John

Today we have effects that add tape hiss... lol
I think the old recordings pound for pound were better than today because of how limited they were, imagine having to "bounce" tracks...what cave man was doing that.
They used to have built in noise reduction dolby were the makers of that. When you pressed it everything went foggy and bassy.
But it's deseriable if you are doing a song talking about those periods, or sometimes they are good for guitar to give it a real feeling in the digital world.

Do you have digital recordings of old tapes? If you just want to remove the "hiss" before and after the the recording that's fairly simple. However, if the hiss is loud enough to be heard DURING the recording you may be able to Eq most of it out without effecting clarity too much, just depends on the overlap. Can you give us a sample?

Thanks John. I do have Audacity and I will give it a try to see if it will work. There is a lot on Audacity that I've never tried, noise removal is one. We will see if it works. Thank guys for your advise.

No, i dont want to argue thats why i take my initial reaction down...
But why ask everybody if you only want an answer from one person.
If John is the resident hiss master, so be it... lol
Does John fix brakes too?

Everett did say " thank you guys". This isn't a popularity contest Fde. Maybe he started with my advise because I was the first to give it. I don't care where Evertte finds a solution. I just hope he finds it on this thread. Isn't that the purpose? Best, John

It’s so hot out today, fire hydrants are looking for dogs
Sp said he was busy with work, you’ll have to survive a period of time without him. Can you do that, or should we call missing persons? And not the band…
