Hey does anyone have anything to say about Nashville Song Services, I googled them and it wasn't clear if they were a song shark or legit, they said my "Beautys in the eyes" lyric scored high enough for a "co write", it says everything will be 50/50 yet I have to pay for the whole demo cost and that it would probably take 10 weeks, and that they'd pitch it.. sounds like a good deal I'm not sure if they use recyled melodies or what, but If we were collaborating I wouldn't have to pay right, I thought that's what a work for hire was, I know I should find a collaborator on forums but I haven't been able to Any advice or knowledge? Thank you very much

I think if you do a search on this site you will find unfavourable remarks on this company. A demo shop that charges you for doing the demo and takes a cut of your song is frowned upon to say the least.

Those "Song Services" that tell you your lyrics are good enough to demo but want a part of the song are what is referred to as a Scam. They may send you a "Contract" to sign but it isn't worth the paper it is written on and they will never bother to demand anything if the song hits it big. The contract is just to suck you in to use their service. Yesterday I looked at an issue of Country Weekly. There are a few ads in there of people seeking songs. All fit the description of Shady. They are all legal but are like "Song Mills" that will demo anything you send if it is barely good enough.
There are a lot of good demo services in Nashville, albit some are expensive. Look on the Source List on the General Board here at JP Folks for a few. You may find others by Googleing Demo Services.
Before you have a song demoed you may want to get some opinions on one of the lyric boards here at JP Folks.
There are some legimite demo services that will co-write on promising lyrics if you agree but it is better if you work up your own melody and don't split a song.

It's a "co-write" but YOU pay for the cost of the demo. There's the red flag right there.

"your lyric scored high enough for a co write" Thats so funny. Whats the scale for the scoring exactly? Did you ask what score you got? Anyway...Normally I would say, stay away it's a terrible scam...But you obviously just write lyrics, right. You do the lyrics, They write the music, and split it evenly down the middle. For some reason I can't wrap my brain around why that sounds bad. All my co-writes are 50/50 unless there is a third person. But they want to pay for the demo alone. That's not right. Tell you what This Is What You Do...tell them if they believe in the song, you will pay for your half of the demo. So whatever amount they shoot you, you can pay half of it. That way you get a good deal, and you make those shady people know you don't play like that.
""but If we were collaborating I wouldn't have to pay right""
Well sort of, but not exactly....you wouldn't have to pay for them to write the music...you would obviously have to pay for half of the demo.

Hey airun,
Run ! It's a demo service. You bear the total cost and give away 50% in the process. It's a scam.
cheers, niteshift

I would suggest trying the demo company I use, for a little over $300.00 they will not only compose music for your lyrics on a "work for hire" basis which gives you 100% of the copyrights on the music, they also cut the demo, send you a Multi-track Master, a CD of your song and the soundtrack, chord sheet and MP3downloadable version of the song and soundtrack... when they give you the demo its YOUR SONG! No splitting royalties. If you wish to learn more go to: www.EASTCRAFTDEMOS.COM Hope this helps.
If I write from my heart, the song will have life. If heart felt music is added, it allows my words to touch hearts, then it has hope. And if it sung by a voice that the music and words truely touch, it will have a soul, and if it has a soul it will touch thousands!

That's a good price. Getting the files from the session is a major plus. That way you can keep the drums from the session and use it for other demos. I have all the drums I track, or have from any sessions. I can also put the instruments into Melodyne, and I can change the key, pitch, tempo, or just about anything imaginable. Hey Michael, if you don't mind me asking...why do you send your demos all the way out to NC when you live in Nashville?
Edit : "Base price includes male lead vocal, background vocals, full instrumentation mastered for radio to your choice of CD, MD, Cassette or MP3 Down Load: $140.00US "
So if you write your music too, it is $140 for a full mastered studio demo. Thats pretty cheap man.
