I feel a bit vindicated, every time I have ever commented on this in one form of another, I was insulted, argued with, told im being a "troll" Well, it happens to be true. And they did put Galleio in jail for voicing his opinion too, and he was right too... I dont mind electronic music, it has it's place, and for home recording, its basicly the only way home recording can exist, even if you use real instruments you have to use click tracks. So for a pure songwriter, it's the only way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFaRIW-wZlwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-8EbHkc8tc

Actually the quantizing, editing, and blocking works both ways... Say, for example, you make a rough acoustic guitar / vox recording that you feel is good enough "as is". When you upload that into your DAW, you don't have to edit the recording to fit the drum track, It IS possible to do the opposite in order to maintain that "human" element. However, since you're working with a computer, it's always much easier to quantize. Quantizing also opens up interesting opportunities for editing your arrangement.
I was trained to play with a metronome as a kid, so trying to maintain perfect timing is not a foreign concept to me.

Oh there's no question, it has advantages, and convenient and all that. Like if your song was used in a movie, it could be synced up in perfect time with a scenes motion. And for home recording people, its a great tool. You can mold things anyway you want them to be. Dont like a sound of an instrument? Just change it, and dont lose any time redoing.
But I think the point being made is the QUALITY of the music suffers. If you try to add a metronome to any of your favorite songs, pre 2000, it wont work, it will fall off, cause when humans play music, they bend towards what everybody else is doing, and meet somewhere in the middle, guitar a bit behind, drums a bit in front.
Another thing is tempo changes themselves. They are not done any more. And defintly not with home recording. Can you play me one song on this forum, that the tempo fluctuates up and down as the song goes. You cant do it.
Well, there are ways to do it, but its not the same as natural ebb and flow of real musicians playing. EVen when in the old days when drums and bass would be recorded together. Them two themselves were not in perfect time, and then everybody that overdubs on top is feeding off of them.
It just makes for a stale performance. And then it takes really skilled people to make all the electo vibes work.
I guess if you grew up in this era. you may not know the difference.
But it is ironic how when all of this started...rock music started to die. And record sales started to die.
You can argue that its other things, but you have to wonder if a "Dark Side Of The Moon" came out today, done just like before, would it sell? It might. Cause it's just a superior product.
But, cat is outta the bag now.. I use the stuff myself, there is no other way to do it. Even with real insutruments.
