I wrote this a couple of years ago. I like the 4/4 feel when the toms start. I read recently that “they” are now saying that possibly dark matter doesn’t exist. Totally ruins the song. LOL

I Traveled All Around The Universe

Today I traveled all around the universe
The speed of light had stopped to stare at me
I flew above each planet I saw hanging in the dark
Every setting sun was free

I came up to the edge of the horizon I saw
An event was going on, nothing there to see
Then I felt a little something trying to pull me to the edge
It was dangerous, such gravity

So much to see, so far to go
So little time, I really didn't know
If I could make it in one day
If I could make it in one day

I had to move on, could not slow down
And if my feet ever touched the ground
I wouldn't make it all the way
I wouldn't make it all the way
I was wasting too much time
Going out of my mind

Solo

the colors of the stars were yellow white blue and red
Some were old, some were new I saw that some were dead
Darkness everywhere didn't matter much to me
If I thought of it I’d be using up too much energy

Galaxies stars planets everywhere
Asteroids and comets moons without air
Black holes dark matter dark energy
Just a few of the things I never got to see

Everything in the universe has its own space
That thought had always played with my mind
Perhaps all of this is here just by chance
Or could it be an intelligent design
Perhaps all of this is here just by chance
Or could it be an intelligent design

Some really things going on here. Mix sounds good. I like some of the transition builds and the space you give the song in places. Very cool. You know what you are doing.

I didn't like the vocal mix very much. It would work for me in some parts of the song but not all of it. By the end it was really wearing on me. If that effected vocal were used sparingly like in a bridge it would work perfectly. Especially because the effect is rather spacey sounding.

Vocal melodies I really like a lot. You did a good job with them. I do feel like it's missing a repeatable chorus I can really grab onto. It "feels" like just a bunch of verses put together even though I know it's not.

Overall it's really good though and I'm not bagging on it. For me this would work perfectly on a concept album as a song telling a story that is continued on.

You know how to put the time/work into a song as this certainly shows it!

Thanks, Ricky, for the listen and comment, most appreciated. Other than a little reverb, nothing else was done to my vocal. It's the harmonies. I thought your reference to the effect being spacey was interesting as the song is a bout traveling through space...lol. I do agree with you about the bunch of verses and am going to do a bit of a rewrite and get back to the studio. Once again thanks

Steve

FInd myself going backwards listening to stuff I can comment on.

I think the track and the song are good, the vocal sounds intentionally martianlike, which is not neccessary your singing to humans. Its certainly different, which is probably what made me comment

I find myself glued to universe tv shows and docs, fascinating stuff. As much as we know we dont know anything yet

I think the idea if intelligent design is dead. What intelligent person would create a universe that gets slammed by objects flying millions of miles an hour, or an Earth that has had several ice ages, gets pummeled by asteroids every day, has natural disasters that kill millions.

Im not eliminating God, but perhaps he started it up and said your on your own.

But your song is good food for thought....

I missed this when you posted it. Glad I found it now. I really enjoyed it, especially the big production, and I thought the vocals were just right for the song. Lyrically, it pulled me along through the universe. I visualized myself flying. Not entirely sure about this line:
"An event was going on, nothing there to see"
If an event is going on, there is presumably something to see smile

For me, this had a kind of orchestral feel to it, especially the closing notes.

Great theme and outstanding production. I don't get around the forums as often as I used too so I missed this first time.
Good song all round

The music immediately grabs you and sets the scene perfectly for a song about space travel. I was very impressed with the arrangement and the overall atmosphere that you created for this song. I also liked the urgency of the vocal and felt it blended perfectly with the music. Nicely done.

Thanks,Gavin, for the listen and your comments. An event horizon has to do with Black Holes. It is that point at which everything disappears never to be seen as light itself cannot escape the pull of the Black Hole. I found the following on Wiki

According to Einstein's theory of special relativity, nothing can travel faster through space than the speed of light. This means a black hole's event horizon is essentially the point from which nothing can return. The name refers to the impossibility of witnessing any event taking place inside that border, the horizon beyond which one cannot see.

Outstanding Steve...did want to hear\see going out in my mind...great trip though the universe with clever play on what has been learned. And as we all get to speculate, I'm thinking dark matter is the spent part of light. What if, at the big bang, it got so hot photons and light particles "burned up", and the residue is dark matter

I'm leaving the Nobel to those who know what they are talking about smile

In the meantime I absolute love the opening of We Don't Make That Anymore...clever "takeover"

Sorry I missed this earlier and I thank you for the listen and comment. l wanted to create a sense of urgency in the song. I'm glad you picked up on that.

Thank you for the listen and comment, most appreciated. I'm always blown away by what Hubble shows us and with the new James Webb launching soon it is going to make Hubble so outdated.

Thanks, John, for the listen and comment. They estimate at a fraction of a second after the big bang the temperature was a relatively cool 1000 Trillion degrees Celsius...just slightly less then the west coast is experiencing as we speak.

I'm going to be posting ...We Don't Make That Anymore shortly..thanks for the comment on that song. I went back into my old posts under Vnorth and noticed you commented on the lyric I posted back in June 2003
