Was driving along one day on one of my road trips, and the idea came to me...stopped and wrote down some lines and finished it when I came home

As with all I write, I am always prepared to listen for imporvements...as long as they are not "production related". This after all a rough production

With that in mind...have at er...

You Can Wear My Hat
©2021 John Voorpostel

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
it’s my favourite hat
hope to get it back

fit right off the rack
mirror turned so cool
fit right off the rack
mirror turned so cool
it's my favourite hat
you can wear it too

it comes with gentle whispers in your ears
a hug around your waist, a soft caress
i love the jaunty angle of the brim against your face
better yet, against your silhouette

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
it’s my favourite hat
can i accompany it

it comes with gentle whispers in your ears
a hug around your waist, a soft caress
i love the jaunty angle of the brim against your face
better yet, against your silhouette

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
it’s my favourite hat
can i accompany it

can you and I extend
some playful make pretend
I mean no offence
you can wear my hat
promise I’m not pegged
or any way ensnared
so at least until night’s end
you can wear my hat

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
it’s my favourite hat
can i accompany it

Not sure what it's about John but it doesn't matter because it sounds cool.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

It's about somebody offering his hat, a hat that means alot to himself, and isnt offered to just anyone, so when he offers it to her, it's special

A simple in the moment idea, the only question is since Vic wasnt sure was it about, would the hat need to be explained more, i got it, but maybe not everybody else.

It sounds more like a broadway or theatre song where the hat would be prominent and worn so the person can see it as well as hear it, and the hat being a big part of the story. Doesnt have to be but...

It reminds me a bit of "fever" in attitude and style, but the melody needs to be articulated better, some rought spots that a singer would probably get a better feel of.

Could be a decent song...

Thanks Vicarn and Dom

A little simpler than all that, it's a ploy, a come on.....You can wear my hat, sleep with it, can I come along?...

Maybe that needs clarification??

And I love that thought Dom...a broadway show about anthropomorpized headgear...we can call it " Hats" smile

Been busy doing videos of some of my songs to get this kind of feedback so thank you both

I do know I need to articulate better...will have to concentrate on that some..

Clever lyric I think. Whats in a hat? Slight of hand magic tricks. But I don't read trickster here...more like friendship jestures ( along with racier overtures)
Good one John...theatrical almost. Could make for a cool music video production.

Hey thanks for dropping by again.

What's happening with you? I found a smartphone on selfie and a Google\Youtube account to be a good way my music down

Before that it was a Tascam portastudio..which when I got real ambitious I paired with Powerpoint to create a video. But it was all a lot of work and so cumbersome you settle

Smartphone takes learning but its about camera angle and lighting and background. Do have a Rode mic which is useful from further out, but within distance the phone's fine

So I am having some fun going through songs I've written ...even learned about Youtube channels...which in talking to you and being here made me realize I can add it to my posting signature

Anyway, glad you liked it and are dropping by.

No need to clarify John.
Leave something to the imagination.

It's a fun song. I don't know if I've ever had occasion to use the word "louche" before, but that's what this is in a fun way. You might be able to play that up a bit more in the delivery, while adding the clarification you mentioned, if you changed:

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
it’s my favourite hat
can i accompany it

to

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
and if you do
can I come too?

Not that there's anything wrong with what you have. I think it's just fine. Just an idea I had.

I think this really has potential. And I get the Broadway thing smile

Thanks for coming back Vic. Your comment is kinda neat fodder in that it is "HER imagination I want to arouse, but not crudely or directly, but in a fun kinda way

Did that come across?? It's the louche that Gavin picked up on

And speaking of....

you can wear my hat
keep and sleep with it
I urge you to
make you feel so good

would be fun...thanks Gavin...gonna be trying that and probably using it somewhere in the song moving forward smile

I'm doing a similar gathering of songs from the past....but with me it only took a day. smile
I recently retired and am enjoying learning to play bass and drums....really lots of fun.
Also, I'm enjoying the jpf website again after years away. There are so many good lyrics and music discussions.....ideas abound, and I find myself wanting to join in the creative process.

thanks for the tip on the smartphone....I just listened to You can wear my hat, and the sound quality is good. Nice choice of music for this one by the way. it fits!

Yeah the music is actually based on the progression Am to D.. Bm to E etc then you can take a number of ways to get back to that Am or Bm etc which is the key to the music

Lots of neat opportunities to create songs around that

Really nice feel, John. The hook is very good and the way you sing it makes it easy to remember, I listened to it once and already had it in my head. With additional instrumentation you've got a very good tune here.
