Back around 2002-3 I lived in Vancouver and used VNorth without the 2. I moved east and used VNORTH2.

Ah..the Windsor NS location was familiar but I somehow had a braincramp with the name. So TO, Vancouver, now Windsor. I guess we have establishe you like water...Lake Ontario, the Pacific and Altalntic sides of canada with direct access to the water

McCartney also said you have to have at least one chord in your chorus that is unique to the song. Guess Beatto is saying...be daring

When music went away from bands to artists, I don't think the suits trusted the creativeness of many of the artists. They now have their formula and they're sticking with it. So much of today's music sounds the same, I think because they have taken those live musicians out of the picture.

The only thing id say is Beato's age. You wont see a 20 year old making a video saying why today's music stinks, its always gonna be somebody older. While I agree with him, it doesnt make me right either. I could Play The Who or Zepplin or even Tom Petty or Springsteen to my niece of nephew and they wouldnt care one thing about it.

Whats happening now is country music is dominating, even around here in the suburbs and cities. My niece loves modern country.

It cant be that its boring, somebody likes it, it IS boring to me. Id say people making music today are not throwing at the same target the artists before them were.

Also, he's speaking of pop music in general, but there are so many unknown artists out there making fabulous music and making great songs, but are working the scrap pile in the music scene. In fact, a good majority of music i listen to these days are local new york indie guys, i do agree that we dont find bands like The Who or Led Zeppelin any more, the music is much simpler, but these days id settle for hearing something with a GUITAR in it. I long for a Jessie's Girl, or a Turning Japanese to be on the radio, i dig that kind of stuff too.

Indeed i Love Wild Thing, and What I like about You, and Walking on Sunshine, and hundreds of similar stuff, the only difference is that the older stuff was played on real instruments, and the vibrance is not there today .

As I have aged, it is simply lack of exposure to the media that plays it all. Some stuff you mentioned FD was lots of fun...and I was exposed to it because of radio play

I don't do Spotify etc...and radio is tuned to a local jazz station most often now...and I play my own creations most often

So I wouldn't know a current widely popular song if it came on the radio

I still know what I like mind you...just don't know what is out there anymore

But I will try to put more colour into my music now...

When i worked in various places in the late 80's and 90's, hit radio was always the music playing in the company. For the most part I hated everything occasionally there was a hit or two that blew me away. And whats funny when i hear alot of those songs, i remember where i was working at the time, music is funny that way, you dont even have to like it but its leaves a timestamp in your brain.

Same thing today, occasionally something decent comes on the radio, but nobody can say there's no talent around today, just not true. I think Bruno Mars is extremley talented, I think Maroon 5 has had some good hits, Lady Gaga very talented, Beyonce very talented, Alicia Keys very talented, but it isnt and never was my kind of music, I NEVER liked pop radio, when Red Hot Chilli peppers were on the radio every day, i loved it, not a big fan, but they had some great stuff to listen to. I like many pop hits from the 80's simply cause that was my era, i would never listen to flock of seaguls or madness or b52's or Devo if i didnt grow up in that era.

I was always a rock guy, and rock music doesnt get much play on top 40 radio, which is what everybody hears.

I would disagree with this. Consider the 50s’ ridiculously simple and banal lyrics, the 60s garage band sound and the same chord progressions over and over (think doo wop), the 70s arguably better with a lot more variety, 80s better with new sounds and expressions, 90s contemporary rock sounds and hiphop, 00s where film music went popular, and the last decade with the indie music boom. Sorry, but todays music is the opposite, better than ever and thriving.

But in the 50's you also had.... Sinatra, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Hank Williams, no such artists today

In the 60's you also had... The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, You had Miles Davis and John Coltrane, you had HENDRIX, and Clapton,Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, Jansi Joplin, and and The Doors, Kinks, no such artists today. and of Course Dylan

And the garage rock of the 60's set the precident for all garage rock to come after it, and its still thriving. Some very good garage rock back then.

70's you had Led Zepplin, Eagles, James Taylor, Springsteen and Tom Petty Bowie, Allman Brothers. No such bands today

80's you had a mixture of music that we have never seen before, from Police, The Clash, to Whitney Houston, to Stevie Ray Vaughn, to Heavy Metal, Bon Jovi and Ozzie, and thats just pop music.

My opinion is the greatest era was the 60's.

But as I said, none of that music i mentioned means anything to young kids who are always in need of music that defines who they are.

Hard to believe but when todays kids get married and have kids, they'll be talking about the glory days of music, when Shaun Mendes and Miley Cyrus were singing.

Point is its all perspective, hes focusing on top 40 pop radio, which was always chit in my opinion, it was never meant to be anything to artsy.

Today I like Foo FIghters, I like Green Day, I like Jack White, I like The Killers, I like War against Drugs, I like The Strokes, I like alot of stuff, but im not really the record buying public, music was and always will be about Kids.

Disagree, today we have Brian Setzer, better rock’n roller than any of the 50s dudes, Imelda May, we have Lee Ritenour and Guthrie Govan, Eric Johnson - better than any of the 60s guitarists. We have Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill, Santana, Sting, Robben Ford, Busta Rhymes ect ect ect. All better than the 50s and 60s acts, and a lot more european, african and asian acts that outshine everything that has been.

When you stop following music going to work and in the humdrum, your horizon becomes so small, everything you know and like is trapped in that little box of history.. everything is better today, the writing, the productions, the performances, the brands, the live experiences, the beer.. just everything. Imo.

Music is free now, only some of the live experiences cost money. Thats better too. In the next decade big labels and publishers will lose even more, and be gone in 20. Everything can be done indie now.

I think the category mistake most make is that the music people discovered in their formative years, is the music they got attached to and familiar with = best. It's all in your mind. Young people today get a lot broader palette of music, and they like both new and old stuff. It's a case of more is more rather than less is more. Today it's so much easier to cherry pick a few songs from a chart and pretend that represents todays music, but it doesn't. There is more music, more charts, more styles ect out there than ever, and it is more diversified than ever before.

Beato's method (or lack of) makes zero sense.

Gotta disagree with the above. The youngest of the names is 46, the oldest is 74 ... they are all great talents but do not represent today's music.... Santana was at Woodstock in 1969...... some great guitarists from that era..... Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and my favourite Terry Kath lead from Chicago...Hendrix said he thought Kath was the best he had ever seen

Brian Setzer is categorized as an 80's artist, His stuff with Stray Cats is what made him famous. Mark Knofpler you have to put in the 70's cause his Sultans of Swing, and perhaps Money for Nothing was in 80's

But you cant do the decades if you throw The Stones in all of them lol. Stones havent made a great record since Tatoo You, early 80's and realy their best stuff was 60's

Eric Johnson is a great player, but not going in 2020 catagory either, neither is Santana nor Sting.

When Kids see Sting they say "who the heck is that"? But he has managed to stay relavent.

Haha, Im not a decader it seems, but young artists are never on the lists with established names are they. Point is, the kids today are just about better at everything, and old farts can’t see it in the fog of their own shi* ;-)

Kids will always want their own music, I will agree there, and nobody can say for sure what music is best, there is no best, it's subjective.

Do you want me to reactivate your old Account VNorth? I may be able to combine them, but it isn't needed or anything. You've had this one 16 years!
