I have an Amazon Kindle which I download digital books to read on. What I'm wondering... Even though I purchased these digital books, can these still be deleted by Amazon in the future, or are they permanently embedded on my device (like a music wav file)? Do these books have any substance? Or do they rely on a mothership out in Cyberspace. Best, John

Id like to believe once you purchase them you own them forever even if you dont have them. I dont use itunes any more, but i have re downloaded the itunes app after YEARS, and see all my music there. Hundreds of songs. I still own Kurt Fortmeyer, Collin Ward, and a few others from this site, i had gotten so many itune gift card as gifts i figured id buy some of our members music.
So id imagine, that in some shape or form your books will still be there, but ud have to go through the hassle of getting whatever device you need to view them.

Thanks Fde! Yes, I understand that I purchased these for a lifetime, but do they exist on my Kindle, without an outside-the-Kindle data base? I have music wav files. They're digital, but they exist solely on my computer. Does Kindle books have a silmilar plateform? John

https://goodereader.com/blog/e-book-news/this-is-the-big-reason-why-we-dont-own-ebooksSeems to indicate that as long as the vendor who licensed your content exists..or makes the book available, you can access it read it. If you can "see" you Kindle as a device via a USB connection, you can see for yourself if you have an actual copy on you device that will last as long as your device lasts If you get a new device..line 2 seems to be the answer Note too that you never own the book outright. You buy a license to read it for as long as you want...just like you do not own software but license it
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

John, I think your books do exist on your device if you have downloaded them. Otherwise you would not be able to read them offline. They also exist as purchases in the Kindle store so that you can download them again if you get a new Kindle. Here's a link you might find useful. https://ebookfriendly.com/back-up-kindle-books-2-ways/

Thanks guys! A lot of good sense here. And Gavin, good point - I don't have to be on the Internet to read my digital books. Which brings another quesrion to mind... Does the Amazon have the power to delete your books? John
