(Remembering Him) One Song at a Time ©2005 Tom Bohn/Robert George BMI

Cleaning out my daddy’s garage for a clothing drive
I ran across a tattered box of his old 45s
I dragged his old turntable out and dusted off the needle
Spent a little time with my old man…Elvis, Haggard and the Beatles

I’m remembering him
One song at a time
And tuning in
To what was on his mind
In the words of those old songs,
Some how he’s not really gone
I can feel him there
Between the lines
Remembering him
One song at a time

That garage was bustin’ at the seams with his antiques
Although they remind me of the man, it’s through the songs he speaks
How he loved my mama, too, through many a hard day’s night
Till he rode away with Pancho and Lefty beyond the great divide

I’m remembering him
One song at a time
And tuning in
To what was on his mind
In the words of those old songs,
Some how he’s not really gone
I can feel him there
Between the lines
Remembering him
One song at a time

In the words of those old songs,
Some how he ain’t really gone
I can see him there
Between the lines
Remembering him
One song at a time

This is terrific, great sound, melody, vocal, lyric, hook .

If I had a nit id mention a few songs by name other than artists. I did see Pancho and Lefty,

Great idea and very tastefully done. I only have a select slow ballads ever written, its hard not to make people fall asleep unless it really hits.

Great work.

Thanks. It's a short lyric and I found room to mention two songs, Hard Day's Night and Pancho and Lefty.

It's an old tune and I don't remember writing the lyric. Tom did a great job with it.

It starts with great writing, add a great melody and a well crafted vocal, throw in a simple musical accompaniment and that is how it is done. The vocal control and delivery are exceptional.

Came across this by sheer good fortune whilst searching the forum for suggestions from members of any places that they recommend to learn to be a better singer.

Will keep on looking - perhaps I need to ask about finding recommended singing courses via new thread?

I was pleased that I chose to let the soundcloud play on - fantastic Wild Side of Country - Wabash Cannibal

cheers!

Any suggestions out there? Input from you folks would be appreciated - even if its just a free online learn to sing course.

Thanks Steve and Louderdan. smile

Wild Side of the Country isn't mine. As far as singing goes, I'm not a singer but I think my advice would be as applicable as if I were giving it to someone who wanted to improve their writing.

Avoid any "courses" and just listen to singers you admire. Take what you can use from each one and form your own style.

Depending on your age and how long you've been doing it, you may or may not be a natural singer. Not everybody is.

Tom Bohn who cowrote and sang this is very talented.

Hey Couch Grouch, really nice tribute to fatherhood and a great collaborative effort by all. It's a very moving set of lyrics to anyone who has lost their dad, well done.
