Guitar Joe
Verse Knew an old man down in Memphis Bout twenty years ago Who would sit out on his front porch And open up his soul. Had a nineteen fifties tele; Was worn from years of use. Used to entertain us youngsters By playing us the blues. Chorus He could bend those strings and vocalize The torment in his soul. He could break your heart and make you cry. Yes that was guitar Joe. Yes that was guitar Joe. Verse Old Joe he loved his Mary Jane. He said she loved him too, Said, she was his inspiration And why he played the blues. Joe had served some time behind bars And he played in quite a few. Said he never made the big time But he sure paid his dues. Chorus He could bend those strings and vocalize The torment in his soul. He could break your heart and make you cry. Yes that was guitar Joe. Yes that was guitar Joe. Verse We’d watch his fingers dance along. That guitar was his stage. He’d play as if he was possessed As we sat there engaged. He transfused the blues in my blood Wrapped it around my soul. I wrote this song to honor him. I owe that much to Joe. Chorus He could bend those strings and vocalize The torment in his soul. He could break your heart and make you cry. Yes that was guitar Joe. Yes that was guitar Joe.

I see a hybrid of remembrances of Elvis paired with shades of that David Allen Coe song about encountering the ghost of Hank Williams;l https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2hJLa0T-Sw

Hey Carroll, I think Christian and I are going to bang this one around a bit. He's got a nice guitar blues arrangement that I think fits nicely

Some songs just flow, and so does Guitar Joe. Read it around, and sang it I guess, very well structured, had good use of the hook, and was very well visualized. Thank you for sharing. ckiphen.

Knew an old man down in Memphis Thirty years ago Who would sit out on his porch And open up his soul Had a nineteen fifties tele' Worn from years of use Used to entertain us kids By playing us the blues He could bend those strings and Make that guitar sing He could break your heart and make you cry Yeah', that was guitar Joe Oh Yeah', guitar Joe Old Joe loved Mary Jane And she loved him too Said she was his pride And why he played the blues Joe learned loss behind bars And played in quite a few Never made the big time But sure paid his dues We'd watch his fingers dance That guitar was his stage He'd play as if possessed I was amazed He lit that fire in my blood and Wrapped it 'round my soul I wrote this song in honor I owe that much to Joe
