It's straight ahead, predictable and overproduced. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing great either. With the resources and head start I had much higher expectations. What if they'd simply played it live, say in a small venue with live fans (don't say lockdown, plenty of shows are happening and some never even slowed down in places where people have power over their lives, which includes the wealthy). They could have played that simple song, in the same way with 100 times the energy and some actual gravitas, unless the kid isn't singing well and has to be enhanced. We'll find out eventually, but if they really wanted to EXPLODE on the scene, a live performance would have worked so much better. A million creative ways they could have pulled it off too.

Its extremely hard trying to start a rock band when your dad is one of the biggest superstars on the planet. Most kids end up doing something else completely different, cause they will never be forgiven for being the son of a near billionaire and rock God..
Springsteens son became a fireman, which I thought was great, think the other one is a dj somewhere. HIs daughter an equestrian champ.
But, they are good enough to compete with whats out there now, ive heard a few of their songs, catchy pop. Predictable? You wont get on the radio if your not, and you wont get many fans being totally different. Unless you are so amazing, and nobody cares.
Theres plenty of bands in this realm that are basicly as good, The Killers, Coldplay, The War on Drugs, Most of the indi rock bands sound similar to this. Whats original? Havent heard anything original since Prince, before that Hendrix, Van Halen on guitar.
But theres still a market for this kind of music, and I think they do it well. Time will tell if the novelty wears off
I know his dad didnt want him to go into music, the kids only 20 years old. Band probably started several years ago.
At least his name isnt so obvious last name Hewson, which is Bono's name Paul Hewson, good thing he used Bono
But it allows him to use his name without obvious criticism.
I dont think they got any help from Bono, but of course, if you are a label you want to use that to your advantage.
They are doing very well actually, its already their career.
Catchy hooks, good voice, nice sound, im happy its out there, the music scene is absolutely putrid right now.
Of course, hell never know struggle, if the music thing fails, he aint going to end up on the street.
Gotta be hard for the other members, "hey anybody see me over here'?
Trying to transcript the Lyric to see if it is coherent. It took several listens to 'get' what was being sung/said. Some I didn't get. Some I'm not sure I got right. I'm into words so they're important to me. I got tired of f'n with it. Perhaps more listens would reveal what I didn't get.
Introductory Movement: 11 seconds.
When I think of all the things, I didn't do, (A Singer-Character, identifies self with pronoun 'I'.) I can't help but blame it on you. (Singer-Character converses first-person with another Character, 'you'.) Oh how to cure these February blues. (Singer-Character, self musing.) You know it's not too late. ('You') She said, "Either way..."? "By the way..."? ("She". Singer-Character seems to converse now with third party, the listener.) Oh-oh-oh-oh! All you do...Cheer Up Baby! (This Line, THE Hook/title, seems incoherent in the 'conversation' so far.) You're not on your own! Oh she said, "All you do...Cheer Up Baby! You're not on your own. Sinking like a stone.
I lie in my bed??? under cover. (Singer-Character telling listener/or 'other' Character.) Oh never ever to be discovered. ??/ come to my room...to offer me a better view.... like I am...
All you do...Cheer Up Baby! You're not on your own. Oh she said, "All you do...Cheer Up Baby. You're not on your own. Sinking like a stone.
BRIDGE Do .... ends I'll be more than a friend. I don't know what she meant. ('she') Are we close to the end? All you do...Cheer Up Baby! You're not on your own. You're sinking like a stone!
Cheer Up Baby! Cheer Up Baby! Cheer Up Baby! Cheer Up Baby! You're not on your own. You're sinking like a stone. 3:45
While the production is enjoyable enough, it's not a Song I would cover, nor would expect to pop up being covered by lots of other people. Bar bands maybe, danceable. But not those seeking to feature themselves, showcasing their ability to do this Song. I wish them well. The market isn't as discriminating as I am. Lots of stuff sells without appealing to me.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com
Gary, they are KIDS, you are what 70? I dont anticipate you would like ANYTHING from that genre. If your looking for great lyrics from teenagers playing trying to find their way.....
Perhaps the reality is kids are forced to lower the bar to meet "industry standards" because everything has already been written and played. Especially if you're a guitar band. Everything today sounds "liberally generic" because it is. Looks, over the top performance, and that typical "generation Z" attitude is more important than the music. So, who cares about meaningful lyrics... performance art isn't about making sense.
Yes, i agree 100%. But it may not be as much as lowering standards, as it is, this IS the standard today, they are just following it.
Yes much more to being a rock band than just lyrics, its the whole nine yards, the band the chemistry, the sound, the production, the look, charsima, and the bigest one how you perform live.
I doubt very much that anybody knows the lyrics to ANY song at first listen. It takes many listens to fully understand them.
Plus rock/pop songs have always been vague in meaning, and people come up with their own meaning.
But I didnt announce them as the second coming of Bob Dylan, i just mentioned the kids got a band lol
