Verse: 1
A girl born in Texas
Raised in Georgia clay
Pushed on to Montana
To try and find her way
Daughter by her side
Where's their future lie
Would they find it underneath
That big Montana Sky

She's a woman mentor educator
MBA a wife and daughter
But of all the labels put upon her
We just called her mom

Verse: 2
Montana was good to her
She grew in many ways
A husband three more children
To brighten up her days
But she heard another calling
To Arizona they would go
So we loaded up the six of us
And quickly hit the road

She's a woman mentor educator
MBA a wife and daughter
But of all the labels put upon her
We just called her mom

Verse: 3
The years have passed to quickly
Your son and daughters we have left
But a silver lining in all things
With four grandsons you've been blessed
And we cherish all you've done for us
To help us on our quest
And we'd like to say that as a mom
You are the very best

She's a woman mentor educator
MBA a wife and daughter
But of all the labels put upon her
We just called her mom

Hey CT,

I woke up to this...Really heartfelt song. I could feel such powerful lyrics

To have someone who means so much to the family is awesome...

I believe you have a song (co-write) with a ton of potential. The lyric pulls the song center stage and as recorded, is perfect for small venue audiences. More instruments and possibly back-up singers here and there could provide leverage for the ladder to the top. Best wishes for success!

Very nice lyrical movement, and a good music vibe for your story. Lots of options as Dave mentioned for further production which I agree could enhance the song. I have a couple of lyric sugs for you to ponder. I think "pushed" signifies that she's trying to escape strife--since that doesn't seem the case lyrically, why not say "she settled in Montana?" I would also substitute the word "for" - "for all the labels" instead of using "of all the labels." - JMO.

I enjoyed your performance--nice write and plenty of potential!

Really nice tune. Like the others, I’d love to hear a fuller production of this—think it could really take this up a few notches You’ve got a really sweet voice as well. Yeah, lots of potential on this one . . . though quite good as is. Good luck with it.

Kind regards,

Thanks Deej,
Love following you and your wonderful songs. Might have to look into a fuller production like you, Dave and Eddie suggest. Someday.

I wanted something to rhyme with Mom (???) The melody sounds like a cowboy song which kinda through me off.

My other question is, I can tell it's a dedication song to your Mom, but how are you going to get a larger audience to relate to it?

Not everybody's Mom is an MBA......... could you possible make it a little more generic to encompass a bigger group?

I love the promise of "we just called her Mom".. so the other side of that coin would be....what did other people call her?

She was called a xooxx... judged for being xooxox, dragged through the mud sometimes, but always got back up

I'm thinking your premise is that even if your Mom gets to be very good in every field she is in, highly respected and admired and they called her Senator or Govenor or Sr. VP, you just called her Mom.

Wish I could be more help. Keep going.

You are right this is a dedication song. My four kids wanted me to write something they could sing to their mother for her birthday. So it is more personal and a tribute to my wife and her life and accomplishments. Would need some major work to go mainstream. You have the premise spot on that no matter how many titles, degree’s or accomplishments she achieved, they just called her mom. They sang it for her during this crazy Covid-19 period and even though masks were worn many tears could be seen flowing from masks. Thanks for your post and interest. Be safe out there.

Other than perhaps making it a bit longer (maybe with a bridge) I wouldn't change a line. This is totally relatable to a lot of people. I think you just need to upgrade to a fuller production. This song has potential. I really like your voice. Excellent start.

Somewhat disagree here. I think it sound just fine "unplugged". Additional instrumentation would probably ruin this very thoughtful piece. Reminds me a bit of the well-known Jimmy Dean recitation from many years ago with a beautiful melody added. Bet you had fun playing with the energy on this one.

This is obviously a very personal lyric with a very specific story behind it and I'm sure your wife loves it! Perhaps that's where it should remain smile

As an outsider looking in, the lyrics raise many questions... Why all the moving around from state to state? Does the first daughter belong to the husband? Is Mom the primary MBA breadwinner in the family?

Life is certainly complicated lol... To make this "universally" relatable would indeed require a major overhaul. Have you considered actually recording your children singing it? Perhaps that would give you just the right perspective for a re-write smile
