One of the most influential guitarists ever, Allen Holdsworth, passed away.

Did you ever get to see him play live?

Hi Jody:

I never had the privilege but wish I had. Always an admirer of great guitar playing I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Thanks for letting us know.

Best regards,

I didn't know him by name, but recognized him from an interview I had seen. Interesting background and career path of doing things his own way in the face of pressures to conform at least a little bit. He didn't seem to stick to anything much over the years but I do remember him because of his association with the synth axe.

When you're 53 and in poor health, 70 doesn't sound that old. He seemed to live life on his own terms which is about as successful as you can hope to be.

I actually had at least one of his "cassettes" way back when.

He was an extremely influential guitarist, who was a bit over-my head listening wise, but so many of the guitar players that I was into growing up mentioned him as one of their primary influences.

I'm just flyin' by memory here, but he was known to do some really wild "intervalic" stuff. He was pretty much a "fusion" guy and he just DESTROYED guitar scales.

Fast, fluent, jazzy, lots of notes!
