Thank you Brian for the warm welcome.

We (co-writer Jeffrey Ullsperger and I) are in the same situation as many other songwriters (perhaps not so much with singer songwriters). This is where the best place to pitch a song to an Artists is?

We have had about 40 songs demo'ed. These are more in the folk/country genre'. These are more traditional country songs. Perhaps this style of song is not so popular now ?

Whatever here is an example of the lyrics we have written. What are peoples thoughts on this.

These songs are on www.broadjam.com/lyrics

Song - Montana Mountains.

verse #1
Montana Mountains, your son has come home,
Through majestic forests and valleys I now roam.
I look upon your mighty peak’s, towering above,
Their grandeur is what I can't help but love.

chorus
Montana Mountains, reaching for the sky,
Take me to a special place,
To nature's perfect high.
You're beauty captures my heart,
I will be yours faithfully.
So Montana Mountains won't you,
Please speak to me.

verse #2
By the campfire’s glow, at night all alone,
I am comforted knowing you're part of my soul.
Surrounded by your beauty, every night and day,
The sun, the moon and stars do light my way.

chorus
Montana Mountains, reaching for the sky,
Take me to a special place,
To nature's perfect high.
You're beauty captures my heart,
I will be yours faithfully.
So Montana Mountains won't you,
Please speak to me.

bridge
When I die one day,
And home is Heaven above.
I’ll ask for a room with a view,
Of the mountains that I love.

Instrumental

chorus
Montana Mountains, reaching for the sky,
Take me to a special place,
To nature's perfect high.
You're beauty captures my heart,
I will be yours faithfully.
So Montana Mountains won't you,
Please speak to me.
Montana Mountains won't you,
Please speak to me.

Hi, Just Plain Folks community. My name is Deej and I’ve been playing guitar off and on since high school. I never much played other folks songs, and got more out of writing my own, but never took it too seriously. After a long-layoff from playing and writing, I’ve been getting back into it this last year or so. I really have no sense of whether what I write has appeal or if it’s any good, but I’d like to learn more about the craft of song writing. I’ve been perusing this site for a while and it seems like this is a great place to start, get feedback, and improve. You are all very kind and constructive in support of fellow artists.

Disclaimer, despite having played many years (off and on), I don’t consider myself a good player or a great performer. But I’m impressed by the positivity on this site, and so I thought I’d take a chance and post some lyrics, and maybe some audio from time to time.

I’m not as technically savvy as many on this board. Just me, a guitar, and recording on Garageband on my Mac—sad really compared to what a lot of folks can do on this site. But I hope it’s OK. Aside from a very small circle of friends and family, this is my first public foray. Appreciate in advance your kind insights and advice.

Hello JPF people!
Tried to get into this place last year, but I guess there were technical things happening that wouldn't allow new members at the time. But it's 2017 now!

I'm the 'Mike' that Tammy mentioned in her post of her song 'Prey'.

Quick Bio:
Been making music for 45+ years, in the last 6 years released 4 CDs - all available as downloads or CDs at my Bandcamp site and the most recent 2 are also on iTunes and CDBaby. Lots of videos on my youtube channel, too.
Tammy and I co-facilitate a songwriter circle that meets once a month in Amherst, NH.

Hi Kids!

I'm Brian, from Gainesville Florida. I'm in a punk rock and roll band called Crash Pad, in our 21st year. I also play in a couple (what for me are) side bands, one that plays traditional Irish music, called O'Reilly & Co., and one that is a loose collective (fluid membership) doing performance art/experimental music/humor, called the Bill Perry Orchestra. For the last seven years, I've also written a live music column for a local bimonthly magazine called Our Town (and have previously written about music for other local magazines, and the regional publication Ink 19, which is now a website).

I found out about this site/group because the producer of Crash Pad's 2012 album, unbeknownst to me (ha ha!) entered the album and one of the songs from it into the 2017 GPF Awards, and so we got a couple nominations. What a cool surprise!

Take care, and thanks for promoting music, musicians, and music scenes! Big ups to to everyone.

Hi,
I'm new to the forums. Just wanted to introduce myself. My piano album and a song from it were nominated for the 2017 awards. Pretty excited! Want to start connecting with other folks at JPF. Not sure I'm doing this right? Anyone there?

Hi Brent and Brian,

Welcome to JPF's Message Board. Many of us are probably older than you Brian, so we welcome another grizzled veteran being involved. Normally we would have done another awards around 2013, but due to some health issues, we had to forgo that cycle and here we are. I know it may seem odd to have 4 or 5 year old albums in a music awards, but our view is that music isn't milk, it doesn't expire, and all we care about is bringing recognition to great music that otherwise might not get the attention it deserves. We have no agenda and the only reason most other music awards are yearly is commerce. It is all about selling widgets and the market demands new ones to sell so corporations can profit as well as TV networks etc. Contest, on the other hand thrive off entry fees and so turning over each year (or each month in the case of some) just brings in more entry fees, often from the same collective of writers who enter them. We are very different. We're free, volunteer run by people who love music and we do this as a labor of love. Our only judging criteria is, in my view, the only thing that matters when it comes to music. Does it move you? We ask that question and compile the answers round after round, judge after judge leading us to nominations (with a few confidential aspects tossed in, we screen more music than any other awards in history, and only compete with ourselves for the largest in the world).

Hi everyone - I signed up here years ago, but have never really got involved. Time to fix that! I'm a singer/songwriter/producer in Toronto. Originally from Nova Scotia. I'm 44 years old and I have 3 daughters. I don't tour any more, but I would if it wasn't sure to lose me buckets of money I don't have. I put out a record about every 5 years or so, occasionally get some radio play or a TV placement, and play as many house concerts as I can, preferably on acoustic piano accompanied by a string section. Mostly making chamber pop these days, but I also love to make heaps of noise, when I get a chance.. If you want to check out my music, you can stream it online. Lots of links at hopefulmonster.ca All the best!

Hello everyone!
My name is Phil Swanson, just joined Just Plain Folks. I am a singer/songwriter from New Jersey. Just released my first real CD last month, Kicking Up Stones. Independent release. Trying to do & learn everything I can to market the cd, so I thought that your organization was a great place to start. Went through cdbaby for the design and distribution, also hostbaby for my website (philswanson.com). Member of Taxi for several years now, so it was refreshing to see them mentioned as "friends & partners" in the industry in Brian's welcome letter. Looking forward to joining a chapter and doing some networking.

Thanks,
Phil Swanson

Greetings:
This certainly appears to be a warm and friendly site. I am primarily involved with the Indie music scene, and run a couple of Internet radio stations (Country, Pop and Jazz) that play only tracks by independent and small label artists. In addition, I have recently launched a community website intended to bring Indie artists, fans and radio people together. A real work in progress, we have a station directory and forum up and running. Since I haven't had a chance to dig into the fine print of the rules here, I don't know whether it would be appropriate to name the sites or provide links. My motivation, aside from a love of music, is to provide opportunities for artists who don't have the advantage of a huge bankroll, wealthy backers or a big name label. In other words, I promote music that deserves to be heard. Anyway, I am looking forward to meeting at least some of you on the forum and to contribute to the community as well. Best wishes!

Hello and "welcome", Achazia:

Norway! I think you may be the first but only Brian can answer that question. So glad you decided to join us and hope you will find your "comfort zone" on any or all of the forums JPF offers on so many topics. Don't be shy if you have a question or encounter a problem here. There are many, many songwriters, singers, musicians and composers who will gladly offer assistance. It may take some time but soon, you will begin to feel "at home" with us.

Looking forward to your participation and hearing some of your work.

----Dave

Welcome Segarlyrics!

Always remember that unless there's a voluntarily legal agreement to the contrary, cowriting is always an equal split between all contributors, even if the final version doesn't include one or more of the contributors additions. That is the default law we're all protected by. So it's always good to openly discuss these things with any potential cowriter (and don't forget someone will need to supply the music which has it's own circumstances to consider) and discussing it all before you write is always a good idea so people can remain productive writing partners.

Glad to have you,

Brian

Hello everyone. I'm Bobby Shiflett and I play guitar as well as write songs for The Other Day, a female fronted band based in Birmingham, Alabama. We play a sort of eclectic pop that mixes Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova influences with Memphis Soul and R&B. I am hoping to network with folks and am looking forward to the experience.

Hello,

I am delighted to find the Just Plain Folks website and forum!

I am a singer-songwriter. I have been singing as long as I can remember, and writing songs almost as long.

My dad taught me to play ukulele when I was five; I started playing guitar when I was twelve. I picked up a little piano at Crane school of Music while studying Psychology at Potsdam State College.

I was born and raised in Northern Vermont. I have lived in upstate/central New York, Washington state and in central Indiana; I presently live in Maine, and am a member of the Maine Songwriters Association.

I look forward to learning, sharing and growing together.

Tony,

Perfect pitch? I thought you posted under your name before? Do you have 2 accounts? I can combine them if you do if you'd like. Thanks for coming back around. You should bring Becky back too!

Hi Brian,
I was Tonedeaf for a time but this one I remembered the password for! LOL I think tonedeaf was before the upgrade back in the day! Didn't we all use our real name at one time too? It's great to see some familiar names and sad to see some missing. I'll mention to Becky next time I see her! Hope you are well,

Welcome, Sarah:

I hope you will enjoy JPF and share your music with us on the MP3 forum or any of the Lyric Forums (3 available) we have to offer. After living in so many interesting places, I suspect you have created some great songs and lyrics. Don't be shy if you need assistance in learning how to navigate the site. There are plenty of really nice folks here to provide assistance... and opinions... on just about any topic.

All the best, ----Dave Rice

Welcome Back, Tony:

Good to see our former members returning. Not much has changed and some of us still use our real names. Give us a shout if anything appears unfamiliar or changed too much since you've been away.
