Hi JPFers! This is a real old one, over 10 years and while I always loved the song, I was not at all fond of my piano part. It sounded a little too stark and wooden so I put it away. Far, far away. Fast forward to last month when I began re-accessing some old songs and, after hearing this, Mike took it and...well, have a listen and let us know what you think. I still wanted a minimalist approach and Mike honored that in a spectacular way. Now I love it all over again. Thanks, Mike. And thanks JPF for listening. Ricki https://soundcloud.com/rickib/fallen-angelFALLEN ANGEL Fly away fallen angel With tarnished wing Your faith in this world was fragile It colored everything When you disappeared Where did you go Did you run out of road Fleeing all you feared Running never worked for me So you weren’t who we hoped you’d be Now we’re left with who you were Gone are all our selfish dreams We get what we deserve What have we done Broken your chains Given back the blame Your liberty is won Has freedom worked for you Death you never cared about Said it’s just like sleep Life you chose to do without Now have you found peace What were you thinking of We’re all the same Inside we’re all in pain But I still believe in love Love has always worked for me Love works for me

Poignant, sensitive and so very deeply soothing. Thanks for dusting this one off and sharing it with us. Mike and Jeanne certainly helped to make your work soar. Stunning work. Loved it.

Posted a comment on Soundcloud stating that it was said that Hank Williams threw the lyric to "Your Cheating Heart" in the trash can. Later he recouped it, and as we know the rest is history. Maybe you'll have some luck this way too.

Love the song and the treatment is exactly right. Very nice. I'm glad you resurrected it. Fine job both.

Utterly beautiful. Gracefully simplistic and musically resolute.
Always been a Sarah Maclachlan junkie. Reminds me of Angel. Has the thoughtfulness of a Christina Perry song. Another personal addiction.
Nice song Ricki. Nice arranging Michael. Lovely vocals

Thanks Dave. It would have remained in obscurity without Mike's magic. Glad you loved it.

At first I thought it was a Mindy McCready tribute. Beautiful lyrics & melody! Piano has just the right touch. Great job you two. Best, John

Thanks John. I had been ready to give up on it but got out of Mike's way and now have a brand new song. Glad you like the results.

Hey Dave, Beechnut, Vic, Travis, Martin, Calvin, and John.. Thanks so much for listening, and I knew others' would find meaning and experience the beauty of this song. It seems unanimous a "parlor music" approach to the arrangement suited this best, cuz the lyric was so sad and personal that it needed to be a little naked like that. I told Ricki from the get go..this was hannds down my favorite from her, in a landscape with dozens of her songs all vying for that spot..this just has a sad, beautiful magic to it that seems to grab hold of listeners and won't let go. To put it simply..the song makes me cry..and I judge the value of this type of song by the quality of "how it moves me" --and it wasn't through cheaply milking tears..but through honesty..sometimes brutal honesty, that Ricki achieves this.. So, LOL..it makes me happy to know my gut instincts are alive and well and functioning properly.. This is one "Women of Substance" radio would really go for, I think, I hope.. Mike

Thanks Mike! It took me a while to figure out who User 986218945 was. You should post links to your new songs at soundcloud too as soundclick doesn't always agree with some JPFers. Nice pic too! Ricki
