Long Gone 2016 https://soundcloud.com/user-655800373/long-goneThat girl... Is smarter, she's got layers Her world Has just no room for players You say she don't know And you think she don't see But she cutting you off And she's setting you free Now she's... Long gone Yes she's Long gone She knows... Exactly what your doin' Don't think... Your worn out act is foolin You say she don't know And you think she don't see But she cutting you off And she's setting you free Now she's... Long gone Yes she's Long gone Her heart's Not one of your possessions Too late... For insincere confessions You need to know And It's time that you see While you were letting her down She's been falling for me And she's... Long gone Yes she's Long gone

Hi Tom:
I really enjoyed my listen. A very "today" sounding song and I hope it gains traction for you. I hear short songs are in vogue, depending on the venue and genre... especially most airplay situations. So, you have a great deal going for you with this one... and I wish you much success. It's good. ----Dave

James,
Thanks for listening! I have been trying to write songs that are more current feeling. Not always sure I am finding the mark. It's tough to find that middle ground of what is newer sounding but still true to music I would like to listen to. Not to say there is no good music being made today because there are some really good new artists surfacing every day! Just need to find them in the midst of all the commercialism. Thanks again!

I love it Tom. I could hear Tom Petty doing it.
I sugg which may or may not work would be to leave an extra bar after "free" with a pause before it And she's setting you ... free ...

Hey Tom,
What a great melody. That is my favorite part and in my opinion what makes songs great. Had my interest from the start and it flows along so nicely. Excellent performance. Loved it.

We don't think a lot about new music vs old music. So much of what I think of as new music is somebody else's old music. What we like is good music and that is what this is. Like Vic said it's easy to hear some Petty in this...particularly re the Mudcrutch albums.
It's pithy in a good way and engages you immediately and keeps you there.
Enjoyed it!

Hi Tom,
I love the dreamy production. Nice simple. musical hooks (piano and guitar) that play off each other kinetically--irresistible stuff. The vocals and vocal melody are pretty cool. Seventies-ish cool.
Like Birdman was one long shot, this is one long hook--a hook from start to finish. Well done.
Mike

Tom,
NICE SONG! I really like this, the melody is catchy and the type of melody that appeals to me! Love the production, the only thing I would have added and this is only my opinion, but maybe a harmony on that last "long gone" which would help enlongate it and emphasize the word "long", just a thought, but I really, really like this song, great write, the "layers" made me think of Shrek, can you tell I have kids? LOL!!

Thanks Michael,
I felt like the vocals could have been delivered with a bit more punch. I might revisit them at some point but I truly appreciate you giving this one a listen. As for the time reference, I guess you can take the boy out of the 70's but you can't... well, you know!

What a cool song, Tom. I like everyhing about it except it's too short. Guess I'll just have to listen twice. While you were letting her down She's been falling for me Nicely done. Ricki

Thanks Ricki,
I just uploaded a new version that added another acoustic guitar layer. also, re recorded the vocal. I thought about adding a instrumental section to ad some length but it almost seemed kind of self serving and I did not feel it added anything. So, short it is! LOL! Thanks for listening!

Love it, Tom. My favorite of yours. very haunting and catchy as anything I've heard in a long time. Love the guitar work and the alternate tuning.

Nice vocals Tom. Reminds me a bit of Billy Joel.
The overall production is outstanding, especially the mixing of the guitars.
