Well, It's been a long time since I've been on the mp3 forum. I've been busy performing and just wrote and produced 3 new songs. This is the first one.

It's basically based on the story of how "I Am The Walrus" came to be written as told by John Lennon's boyhood friend Pete Shotton, who was there at the time of the writing. John and Pete were going though sacks of fan mail and one told of an English teacher at Quarry Banks High School where they both attended. The teacher would ask students to give their interpretations of Beatle songs and then would tell them "what the lyrics really meant." John asked Pete what the words were to a rhyme they used to say about yellow matter custard dripping from a dead dog's eye. Pete recited it and John started writing down nonsense lines, threw his notepad down on the sofa and said, "Let's see what the "F"ers say about that one."

Similarly, as college students we would try to decipher the "deep" meanings to Dylan lyrics as well as Springsteen's earlier wordy lyrics that seemed to make no sense but seemed intriguing.

Well, that's what this song is a satire of. And like the song itself, this intro is a bit wordy so...1234..Here we go...

Will They Find a Hidden Meaning In My Song This Time

Well bein' a rock star's all fine and well
Lots of recognition when you trash hotels
You can use a lot of words and hear it called art
When you mimic a folkie with guitar and a harp

Well get in your car and speed real slow
See the cop scratch his head till his hair explodes
There's a girl in a burka under her clothes
And Jihadi John's got a date with a drone
If you see his prophet tell him I said hi
We used to get drunk about this time

[Chorus]
There's a backward masked record and it plays just fine
A fluffy mink stole fer this girl of mine
A nun with a Habit she can't define
Transubstantiation of her ripple wine
With my rapid fire words will they take it as a sign?
Will they find a hidden meaning in my song this time?

Well I can make a lot of music but it ain't worth a dime
With free streaming songs and some of them are mine
And things could be worse so I don't need wealth
Cause I take a lot of drugs, I still got my health

There's a Pit Bull puppy with a big red nose
The Ragman's wearin' Santa's Clothes
A beachhead burnin' just up the road
While anxiety's child remains composed
she rhymes when she talks but she don't know
If you want to get the meaning you better learn the code

[Chorus]
There's a backward masked record and it plays just fine
A fluffy mink stole fer this girl of mine
A nun with a Habit she can't define
Transubstantiation of her ripple wine
With my rapid fire words will they take it as a sign?
Will they find a hidden meaning in my song this time?

Stevie,

Terrific.

It all made sense, but I'm keeping it to myself...

Very well put together. Your tracks sound great. Great snappy drums and nice background organ. Guitars and vocal as well. And a good mix.

Enjoyable.

Hi Stevie,

I hear a lot of music history in this song. It's a rich lyric that reminds me of early Dylan in parts, The Byrds, circa "So You Want To Be A Rock n' Roll Star," but for some reason, it mostly reminds me of Don Mclean, circa American Pie, and his industrious use of masked references.

Who can resist a lyric with a lines such as "A nun with a Habit she can't define/Transubstantiation of her ripple wine"..?

Very enjoyable indeed!

Mike

This was laugh out loud funny, Stevie!

Well done! You'll tell us the code later, right?

Little Stevie, You've got a real good lyric. Got some humor and some references to pop music royalty from the past. I liked the lyrics a lot. And you always have great sounding musical tracks. I also liked the introductory tale explaining how John Lennon came to write "I am the Walrus." Ol' John was a sly one, wasn't he?

Write from your heart, not what you think others want to hear.

Hey Stevie,

Good to hear another one from you and this is among my favorites. Love the lyrics. It is about time I heard a tune that delves into climate change a bit deeper. smile Seriously, loved it. Especially loved the sound of that Ric! Sounded great. Fun song.

You figured it all out, didn't you Dave? Climate change. Actually, the electric 12 string isn't my Ric. It's my Line 6 Variax guitar. It models twenty some classic guitars and one is a Ric. You can hardly tell the difference unless you're doing a side by side comparison. Cool invention though, eh?

Okay. Now that everybody has had a shot at this one I'll expose the "code"...the hidden meaning. Haha, it's whatever you want it to mean. There is no meaning. Just a bunch of disjointed couplets of lines. I must admit some of them sound interesting together but it's all one big nonsense lyric. Must admit though that the more I listen to it, the more "hidden meaning" I get out of it myself. lol Thanks for playing along, everyone. I hope you had fun.

Like Mike said who could resist ""A nun with a Habit she can't define/Transubstantiation of her ripple wine..."

Man, there's a hidden gem every time I read the lyric.

Lot's of fun here!! Clever write indeed.

Glad you're finding gems in this one but I assure you that no meaning was intended at the time of writing. Just a bunch of disjointed couplets that sounded good at the time. I guess it's cool though that everyone comes out of the experience with their own meanings. Thanks for the listen and comment.
