Mike, I saw him once at a hockey arena. Horrible acoustics. And Dylan had already transitioned away from singing to reciting his lyrics. The combination literally made the words indecipherable and the songs indistinguishable from one another. I much prefer any of his performances on YouTube prior to 2000 when he was still singing his songs. Still a huge fan.
Write from your heart, not what you think others want to hear.
i know what you mean,i've heard a few songs that i really like a lot but couldn't recognize them until he said a certain line or chorus. You never know what youre gonna get but then again neither does his band as he changes a song at any given minute i read. They just have to be ready to play it in whatever style he chooses.Yep,i'm still a huge fan though!
I've seen him twice. Once about the time Street Legal came out. The thing I remember most about that show is that he sang "I Want You" as a slow dirge. Was pretty cool.
I saw him again in the late 80s when he had G.E. Smith playing guitar. Couldn't recognize the songs at first - not because he was bending them like he does nowadays but because the acoustics were so bad.
Had some chances since then to see him but I haven't taken them. Not sure why....
Thanks Scott!I like Street Legal a lot, good stuff on it.I would've liked to hear him sing I Want You that way.My first time seeing him was his Rolling Thunder Review in '76,really cool,Mick Ronson on guitar, blew me away. These scans aren't that great as the scanner i used at the time had a real scratchy surface due to me scanning Indain artifacts on it.Rocks shouldn't be scanned i'm thinking now.Mike
thank ya Ricki!Shame on you for missing him,i do know what you mean by the crowds,i missed the Jazz Fest last year with some great bands and it looks like i'm not in the mood for the fantastic bands this year.Hell,i even skipped Mardi Gras!!!Mike
