This is really mostly for Aaron. My friend and artist, Meghan Linsey is still on THE VOICE, down to the final twelve. Last night she performed your song, GIRL CRUSH. Today she surpassed Little Big Town on downloads on that song. The power of National television. Thought you'd like to know.

Hey guys, thanks for the congratulations but it really has nothing to do with me. She's a good singer and it's working well, good for her. Who knows what any of these things do so I only hopes it brings her some attention.
Patrick, I mentioned Aaron, because he started a thread on "Radio pulling the "Girl Crush" song. He likes that one.

The Voice has a huge audience. Actually more than American Idol. And she has some pretty dedicated fans. You have to remember she also had a country deal for three years on Taylor Swift's BIG MACHINE label. So she is already known from that. She even has a fan club called "MEGHAN'S MEGAFANS." The voice does a lot through public participation so a lot that comes from fan loyalty. They are actually downloading the song so it is pretty accurate.
Of course you have to remember that so much about music is "while it is hot." Because you have more downloads in one or even a few days doesn't nessasarily mean for a long lasting career. All of this can be a flash of momentary publicity, then too often, they go back to relative obscurity. Meghan has been doing things pretty consistantly over the past few years after her deal. She released a record in Europe and has done a dance oriented project, so she is pretty busy. She is also a favorite around here in Nashville, so the publicity should work to her advantage, even if she doesn't win this particular show.
All of these are what you follow it up with. The show fame fades very quickly and it is incumbant on any one of these people to take that fame to the next level. Most don't and wait on the show fame to surround them and make them stars. Rarely does. Easy to become a trivia question quickly.
She tends to work her butt off so I think she will do fine after the show. If she gets down to a certain few, she gets a new car out of the show. I think that is what she is looking for. That VW Beetle is looking a little ragged.

The songwriters must be really happy. They will be makin some good cash out of this. Hopefully she's able to ride cloud 9 to the top. I also wonder if the singers get any money out of the songs that people download. Do you know if she's gonna see some money from the digitial sales of that song Marc?

Aaron, I'm not privy to any of the deatails but I am sure there is something. For many years, artists got 9% of songs like that. I'm not sure now nor about this show. All television shows are kind of publicity vehicles for songs and are pretty stringent in the contracts going in. But I am sure everyone will get something out of it, though probably not as much as you might think. The days of having a song on a show, even some huge show and it being a lot lot of money are pretty much done. Now there are all kinds of contracts, exemptions, three quarter rates, etc. I'm sure it will be a nice little bump into everyone's quarterly statement, but not going to be a retirement song. But Liz Rose, Hillary Linsey, and Lori MaKenna, will be having some great times right now. Maybe some really good dinners for a while. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/v...ur-serious-soul-into-girl-crush-20150414MAB

Down to the final 5, the only one I "called" early was Sawyer because of his stunning rendition of Have You Ever Seen The Rain...and I think he will win because he simply has not shown any cracks at all...well not to these admittedly biased ears and eyes Here's my projected finish....except that there's a chance Meghan and Koryn could switch places. Would be amazing for Pharrell Sawyer Fredericks Meghan Lindsay Koryn Hawthorne Joshua Davis India Carney
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Hey guys,
Glad you are mentioning this. She was here in town yesterday and we had a "private homecoming" party and filming for her that will be used on the show. You know, one of those "reality moments' that you have to rehearse five times for the cameras, then do over five times to get different camera angles. A lot of standing around. Any way we all got to say hey and hug and all that stuff. A lot of hoopla going on.
She had flown in after the show Tuesday, did morning press, meeting with the Mayor, the thing with us where Naomi Judd just "showed up" (gotta love television), then more press, a "surprise" show last night with Big and Rich, the Judds and some other celebrities, all wishing her well. Then flew back to LA last night where they are all working more today. A lot of stuff these guys go through. But the years working here constantly toughened her up for it, and it is paying off now.
I am not much of a fan of these shows, but if someone is going to do them, it is nice to see someone who deserves the attention. Hey, if she makes it to the top three she gets a new car. That will be worth it if nothing else. The attention will do very well for her. She has consistantly sold very well with her I Tunes downloads. Her version of "Girl Crush" sold better than Little Big Town's for a week, and to go from that to "Amazing Grace" is a pretty cool leap.
Nice for everyone else to see what we have seen for a decade.
The show is Monday at 7:00 CST, on NBC. Hope some of you can watch.

Humm, I Googled her and took a listen. Not bad but the song she was singing sorta sounded like too much of what Nashville is promoting at the present. Good luck.

Micheal,
I can't tell you what they are doing there. to tell you the truth, her family all lives in Nashville now and I don't know what will be done there. If she wins, there might be some kind of "total tour" retrospective, but unless that happens I am not sure. All the contestants were flown to their home towns (or home bases) to film "B roll" footage to be used in upcoming events.
Ray, that is very humorous. What she is doing is NOTHING like what Nashville is doing. Quite the opposite. One of the things I worry about is her alienating her initial fan base which is country based. Have to be very cautious in stepping too far outside the lines of where your bread is buttered.
But she sings in many styles, blues, rock, soul, Gospel, R&B as well as country. That is what she has done on the show. Shown a pretty wide variety of what is her. Been a pretty good overall showing I would say. I'm a little prejudiced but I also work with a LOT of singers, so I know the real deal when I see it. She is.

I'd like her to be featured in a DHT type song (dance/house/trance). I think she would do well. Maybe a Calvin Harris track.

Aaron,
That actually is what she has been doing over the past three years. She released a dance single in Europe actually under a different name. Not much attention though.

Aaron, it was a limited European release called "I Want a Man" under the name "COTTON I JANES' I believe. She had written it with some wealthy European guy who wanted to do an entire release, promote her as an artist, and did a single release on it, getting some airplay and in some danceclubs. But the European market is a very difficult one to break into from other countries, pretty much like any market. Has it's own rules, eticates, whatever.
I was not really much of a fan of the song and don't even have it, mostly because it sounded pretty much like every other one of those songs out there. They all tend to run into each other in my opinion, so it turned out to be an interesting project but never went too far. She did sound good on it, if you like that sort of thing, European dance, electronic pop. Not my cup of tea.
But we will see where her career goes. I think her talent is very real and she works unbelievably hard. Most people don't realize the amount of 'behind the scenes" work any sort of a career requires. For every hour spent writing, recording, performing, their are twenty to fifty hours spent networking, pressing the flesh, social networking, gathering fans, doing publicity, and many many things most people never see.
Just like these two little segments of her trip to Nashville. Around 14-16 hour days, multiple camera and production set ups, just to do a "walking in the door" scene. And it is all like that. Hundreds of hours spent just setting up small things that come together to make a career work. and dozens of people that have to be behind the scene, technicians, managers, producers, hair and make up stylists, drivers, advance people, publicity people, television people, etc. just to make the little things work that go TOWARD the big things.
A lot to a career. It does "Begin with a song" but after that there are about twenty million things that have to take the song and artist to the next levels. And that is just to get into the game. Doesn't mean they are going to succeed.
That's just the price of admission. MAB

I've watched most of the Reality Singing Contests/shows over the years. Idol, Nashville Star, The Voice, X Factor, I think "The Voice" is the best one out there.
Somewhere I posted the purpose of just about all singing & songwriting contests is to enrich the creators and promoters of the contest and that some are
1) Good (meaning run by good people, or for a good cause, and good for those who final or win )
2) Neutral
3) Deceptive, Misleading or downright Evil:
Here's a few reasons why:
1) The Voice has improved their show and show rules over the years, (first season there was a battle between 2 awesome R&B singers, 1 was let go & really would have lasted till the end) (the next season they created "The Steal" which makes the show more interesting and in fact the last winner, Craig Wayne Boyd, was a Stolen Artist. Megan Linsey is a stolen artist.
2) the voice contestant vocals sound better,
3) no age cap,
4) They release their songs on Itunes the day they're performed and purchases count more than votes.
5) Contestants get National Exposure of their performances and a little of their back storys
6) The judges really mentor their contestants and help them after the shows are over. EI: Austin's Nakia was on the show, Ce Lo was his coach, when Ce Lo was a headliner at ACL Fest, he invited Nakia to the stage and allowed him to perform a song.
7) the initial selection process is blind
8) the banter and competitiveness between the judges is entertaining.
