Hi, Folks!
The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.
This challenge is theme oriented. It must be spooky or eerie or strange OR about Halloween. For those of you who record your songs, sound effects would be cool too. There must be a rhyme scheme in the lyrics. (Lyrics only are OK.)
Have fun!

Hi Jean, It's been awhile but it's good to see your smile! Had this one on hand based on the movie. Maybe someone can put scary music to it. "The Blob"(c)2010 Lynn OrloffThere was a man of science Who had a found a substance rare So he kept it in his freezer Thinking no one find it there But it seems a family member Who was looking for some food Came across the unmarked package Took it out and left the room As it sat out on the counter, seems it started to defrost Who would guess this curious finding would cause havoc and great loss It was ewy, it was gooey And it's name became “The Blob” Finding victims to devour Sadly seemed to be it’s job
Though it started as a small thing Over time it grew in size As the news spread through the county Townsfolk feared their own demise Neighbors gathered feeling helpless Searching for the perfect plan Accidentally they discovered They could save their fellow man Armed with all their hands could carry, shooting well with Co2 Taking aim to freeze the monster, was the one thing left to do It was ewy, it was gooey And it's name became "The Blob” Finding victims to devour Sadly seemed it’s only job
Bridge Now it’s frozen, rendered harmless if it stays in frozen form But it could present a problem if it ever gets too warm... It was ewy, it was gooey Though it isn't anymore But be careful for surprises One could show up at your door!!!

Hi Jean, I hope you like this one.
Many years ago, I was staying with a friend and he had a girl coming round for dinner. He threw me out for the evening and the only place I could go, was to sit in the local cemetery.
This is what I wrote as it got darker and darker.
God Bless Roy and Helen
The Graveyard Path.
Peering down the path at night, Counting all the stones, Thinking of the people there, Before they turned to bones.
Creeping down the path at night, Try to read the words. Maybe then I won't be scared, Which is really quite obsurd.
Running down the path at night, Flee with all my might, Some dirty sod jumped out on me, And gave me such a fright.
Carried down the path at night, Someone heard me scream. When I thought that I'd passed out, I woke to end my dream.
Looking on the bright side, Could have been much worse. Then I found that I'd woke up, Lying in a hearse.

HIYa Mz Jeannie B!
Here's one Inspired By Recent Events..heh..
"DEAD ZONE" (C) 2010 by Stan Good, BMI
That's The STRANGEST SIREN I Ever Heard But Guessed I Ought to STOP.. And That Revolving GREEN Light FLASHING Said "This IS One Real-WEIRD COP!"
So I Rolled-Down My Window & Handed Him MY ID.. But as I Gazed Into Its Eyes It Stared-Back HUNGRILY...
The Breeze Blew In a Smell of DEATH I Heard a SPOOKY GROWL There Was NO HEAT in That Thing's BREATH When..I Heard It HOWL...
(CHORUS/SPOOKY VOICE:) You Just Drove Through A DEAD ZONE.. Ten Miles WAY TOO-SLOW... You Ought to Really SPEED IT UP When You Drive Through HERE...ALONE!
I Thanked It for That Great Advice Rolled My Window Up Lickety-Split! Left Behind My Wallet and DEPARTED Doubly-Quick!
Further Up-Ahead was A Curve & Fatal Crash & Blinking-there, That Green Light COP (HOW'D He Beat Me There SO-FAST?)
I Saw Him Pick The Victim Up He Gave Her Mouth-to-Mouth DID He Save Her, Never Heard But YEAH, I've Got My Doubts!
(PRE) STILL His Words Sure Have Stuck With Me.. They Creep BACK...Every HALLOWEEN..
(REPEAT CHORUS) You Just Drove Through a DEAD ZONE Ten Miles WAYYY Too SLOW! You Ought To Really SPEED IT UP When You Drive Through Here... {BIG SCREAM S.E.} Alone!

LOL, Roy, what a way to get inspiration! Even the "bright side" is dark.
I don't usually offer critiques in the challenge forums, but there are some spelling adjustments you may want to consider. Pearing - peering, obsurd -absurd, hurse- hearse.
Thanks for posting this spooky song.

Hey Jean, First off, soooo sorry for being so remiss on these challenges. I actually have an idea for one I'm going to post this week. I just want to write a song for it first!! Anyhoo, this is from two Halloween's ago. Joe Wrabek was kind enough to musicate it for me...and it came out nice and creepy! Thanks, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Beth http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=949237&songID=7567540The Well in The Glade
The Well in the Glade is patient Though unknown, to those left behind Legions of children of children Of the first who alas made the find
They were hunters out tracking a deer Hallow's Eve, when one saw the tail It led them deep into the forest To a glade at the end of the trail
CHORUS: So let me tell About The Well They thought it was for wishing They tossed in change Then something strange Happened They started slipping Down, they fell Bound straight for hell The water started hissing Then splash of pail A gurgled wail That's how those two went missing`
Last night two boys cut thru the forest They got lost and a little afraid Was the night before Halloween They cheered up when they came to the glade
CHORUS: So let me tell About The Well They thought it was for wishing They tossed in change Then something strange Happened They started slipping Down, they fell Bound straight for hell The water started hissing Then splash of pail A gurgled wail That's how THOSE two went missing`
Now if you come across a well In the middle of a glade Don't toss one penny down its throat You'll be wishing your life away....

Ok here's my lyric with no music and below is my song done with Calvin..thanks glyn I've Seen The Truckers Black Dog It was one of those crazy Red Moon Nights Felt like something bad was gonna happen Too black outside, air too still, too quite Pulled my truck off the road to catch a wink or two Bout three hours into a good sleep Call from the wife, son Billy’s taken sick This load I’m carrying will have to keep Gotta get home fast , get there quick Chorus 1 For a split second fell asleep at the wheel, Woke up in a panic heard a death defying howl There in front of me, standing in the road Is this horse size black dog, starring up at me He had flaming fire red eyes as big as my hands Never tried to move, I still remember those eyes I swerved but couldn’t stop, he went underneath There was no way I didn’t hit this Hell Bound Hound I pulled over got out to look .but there was nothing to be found not even the print of a foot Barreling down the stretch of the interstate No time to lose, driven this road many times Eyelids so heavy, hard to stay awake I’ve seen the black dog, had my warning signs Roll down the windows, turn the air on Up the music , try to sing along Gotta stay awake, gotta get home Keep me alert, beat this sleep, be strong Chorus 2 For a split second, fell asleep at the wheel Woke up in a panic, heard a death defying howl Bout ten foot in front of me is a mangled metal wreck Another 18 wheeler fell asleep at the wheel As I’m slowly passing by, standing by the smoke filled cab Was this big black doomed dog looking back at me This I knew was the Hell Bound Black Dog All the truckers talked about but didn’t want to see You could see the explosion of that 18 wheel rig with fire shooting up into the skies as far as the eye can see Chorus 3 Thinking to myself I too fell asleep at the wheel How many more times will I get to beat The warning signs of The Hell bound Black Dog The dog of Doom waiting to come and take you home I’ve seen him now twice, how many times do you get I now know the omen of the tale is now a reality I’ve seen the Black Dog in real life, then again I look back I’ts "ME" lying on the roadway underneath that white sheet First sign of "Black Dog" take my warning=get off the road, get some sleep, or you too will be the next one down the road underneath a heap of metal and steel..with the dog of DOOM watching over you, ready to take YOU home Written by glyn ************************************************************** And one year I had watched the Headless Horseman and Pumpkin Head and this lil' song came to mind...and Calvin came in and did the co-write with me..and so for Halloween here it is too... This song is about the ghostly things and scarey things that happen in the dark...that's all...thanks...glyn On The Dark Side Of The Tracks http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7224981 _________________________ You never know the beauty of love, until you have loved and lost it. _________________________

Hi Lynn I liked The Blob – there is a hint of another horror (and arguably more serious) message of global warming in there Nige

Thanks to everyone who participated. I am in the middle of working on our annual Christmas program so not much time to be on the boards. Will be back on more after it's over.

Jean I had an idea come to mind and was going to take you up on your offer, but I tried and it won't allow me to, probably because I am not a mentor. We'll wait for your return or someone else to challenge us. Best, Lynn

Just send me a PM exactly the way you want it and I will copy and paste it in. You could actually send it to any of the mentors. I usually get an e-mail letting me know that I have a PM in my message box, so if I see that I will log on and read it. Happy Day after Thanksgiving.
