FIRST DO NO HARM
c2013 Brian Beecher
It is another day when you could be Inclined to want or expect more Take extra care not to betray her As it may well close the open door
Later on you will be glad That you slowed down and took your time She may become the best you’ve had First do no harm then you’ll be fine
Don’t reveal secrets passed on to you When you reappear on the scene There may be one possibly who’s looking To get involved in your life once again
To easily forgive and forget Can be good as gold in due time It might mean taking a backward step First do no harm then you’ll be fine
Try not to take on more than you can handle That might be your wise choice today Then set the mood and light a candle She may be in your arms to stay
At that time you will be glad That you slowed down and took your time She may become the best you’ve had First do no harm and you’ll be fine

Hi Brian,
I really like this one, though the structures a bit confusing. You do the last line/hook refrain on verses 2, 4, and 6. Then basically repeat the 2nd and 6th verses much like a chorus with the exception of "Later on" and "At that time".
I really like the read and hook as well. I'm not quite sure how the structure would effect any commercial aspirations, but thought it was worth a mention. Good write!
David

Hey there Beechnut!
Okay I am seeing this for the first time...sorry...but damn if this is not the quintessential country song!! Do you have someone putting music to it?

Isn't "First Do No Harm" the Hippocratic Oath? Hippocrates the father of medicine, came up with that line. And anybody who wants to become a doctor has to take the oath.
Im not getting a country vibe from this at all. Country people dont talk like that!
It's more poetry/philosophy.
Look forward to hearing some music with these lyrics gang.

What a nice surprise to get so many comments on this piece. At this time I do not recall what the true inspiration for it was although it might have been a follow-up to a previous write. Would love to get music put to more of my lyrics but the cost of production is, for the most part, out of reach outside of winning the big lottery. Any ideas?
