Hope you enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/fredchoatemusic/that-would-be-me-full-demoThat Would Be Me © Fred Choate, Colleen Laylon, BMI, 2014 (Contact info: fredchoatemusic@gmail.com ) V1 I talked to the mirror, practiced all my lines Polished off two pots of coffee, and watched the sunrise Grabbed my baby, we're takin a ride I aint' asked her yet, will she be my wife? Pullin' in her parents drive, she still don’t have a clue But I’m guessing, her daddy always knew.... another man....would love her one day too Chorus That would be me….That would be me I’m the stand-up cowboy he never thought I’d be Gonna shake his hand, and maybe then he’ll see If he wants someone to love her like he does….. That would be me V2 Met her mamma in the kitchen, I heard her daddy outside shooting down clay pigeons with Crazy Uncle Clyde Lord I'm praying, that his aim is high If I don't survive, kiss my baby goodbye I whispered to her mamma, what I came here for I want your daughters hand and headed for the door She pulled me back, said Son are you really sure Chorus That would be me….That would be me I’m the stand-up cowboy he never thought I’d be Gonna shake his hand, and maybe then he’ll see If he wants someone to love her like he does….. That would be me Solo Bridge: Said, “I’m here for your blessin’”… he re-loaded his shot gun Pulled that rock from my pocket, he said “So you think you are the one?” Chorus That would be me….That would be me I’m the stand-up cowboy you never thought I’d be Then I shook his hand, said “I need you to see” If you want someone to love her like you do….. That would be me Tag He laughed and said, welcome to the Zoo........ now grab a gun, you're one of us....

What a great song you have here. The lyrics are superb as is the music and vocals.
And you got the tempo and style spot on.
Yep, a song anyone would be proud of
God Bless

Love everything about this one. Great write, awesome production and your vocalist was not only very good, he was believable. By that I mean he really bought into the song and sold it. Best of luck with this one. You have something special here!

Hey Fred,
Enjoyed this upbeat little ditty. Another nicely produced track from Galen. Sounded great! However, your transition from the 1st verse to the 1st chorus didn't make sense to me. I read back through the previous comments, and nobody else mentions it, so maybe it's just me lol.
I don't know what your intention was, but the way this is written, I assumed this feller has never met the girls parents before, because in V2 you say "met her mamma in the kitchen" which I interpreted as he's meeting her for the 1st time ever, therefore this is the first time he is meeting the daddy as well, at least the way I interpreted the lyrics. You also say "I'm guessing her daddy always knew" which also implies they've never met by your use of the word, "guessing". But in the transition from the 1st verse to the 1st chorus, you tell us in line 2 of the CH, "I'm the stand up cowboy he never thought I'd be".
As I listened, I found myself asking, if this dude has never met the parents before, then line 2 in the 1st CH makes no sense to me. If the daddy has never met the feller, then why would he suddenly think the feller is "the stand up cowboy he never thought he'd be"? To me, this implies the daddy must not have thought too much of the feller in the past, but now he might think the feller is stand up guy? But if he is just meeting the feller for the first time, then there would be no past opinion, would there? I dunno, this part of the story confused me, but nobody else mentioned it so maybe I'm not interpreting the story correctly. If that's the case, then disregard everything I've said so far lol.
Only other thing I would mention is, "I aint' asked her yet, will she be my wife?" doesn't sound very conversational. If I was sitting at a bar talking to you about my girl, I would say to you, "I aint' asked her yet, IF SHE'll be my wife? \ I enjoyed it though. GL with it. -Tim

Tim, good comments all around. You know we struggled with the lyric on this for hours back and forth while writing it (there were several rewrites).....however, the premise is that the Dad has a very high standard for ANY guy that his daughter brings home, and especially for someone to ask for his daughters hand. We are assuming that the parents know this guy, but instead of just "asking her to marry him", he is going to be old fashioned so to speak, and be a Stand Up Man and get permission from the Dad first....the whole shotgun thing is more like a "show" than anything...we know the dad isn't really going to shoot this fella, but as fathers we always dream about standing at the door and intimidating the heck out of our daughters guy. As far as "met her mama"......that is simply, that is where they were at....the mom was in the kitchen as the singer was on his way to the backyard where he heard the dad shooting, and he whispers to the mom his intentions. Anyway, I am glad to see your remarks...always love to hear how a song actually comes across for a listener Glad you enjoyed the tune, even if it didn't totally gel lyrically with you

Hi Fred.
This one will wake them up--nice up-tempo song. I like this a lot as well. Really well produced. If you were to make any changes or tweaks--the only one I might suggest is in the solo, which I was digging the mouth harp, I'd like to see the guitar volume solo increased a bit to closer match as it rolls off the harp solo and takes over, but feels a little waning in comparison. That's a small nit.
Good luck with this and great job all round!

I, also, was waiting for Elvis when the intro started. Nice. You can’t go wrong using Galen. Thought he went “away” for a while, glad to hear he’s back.

I'd stick a fork in it. It's sounds good to go and the mix sounds really good on my KRK's. I like the "Elvis Intro" hint!
OK on second listen I do hear what Eddie mentioned re pulling up the guitar a frog hair. If convenient I'd do it but wouldn't worry if it wasn't. This outghta be heard by a lot of folks.
