Seen the lyrics in the lyrics forum and a melody just grabbed me, Mike allowed me to join him on the song.

I planned on doing a better recording of this, but I have been sick for the last month... So til I get a better sound, here is what I came up with.

I am no recording engineer by any stretch...

I just Might Die Tonight
Gaines/Leblanc © 2014

This roads a killer winding through the night
This storms a chiller with no end in sight
I think I'd better pull over
Or I just might die tonight

Her loves a killer spinning all her lies
Like a Friday night thriller I can't escape her bite
I gotta try and leave her
Or I just might die tonight

No way out if I don't play it right
I just might die tonight

This drugs a killer with death in its sights
Just wanted a little filler for this emptiness inside
I hope Gods a forgiver
Or I just might die tonight

No way out if I don't play it right
I just might die tonight

No way out if I don't play it right
I just might die tonight

I just might die tonight

I just might die tonight

Cheers
Paul

The lyrics are a good read, well done going from to the storm to the lover to the drugs -- and it's all tied together with the hook line. Very fine performance from Paul, nice playing and singing. My only suggestion would be to treat "No way out if I don't play it right..." as a bridge (I think you are already are) and change the music and/or the delivery even more during that part. Pretty good stuff, for sure.

Hey Bill
Thanks for the thumbs up.

The lyrics Mike posted sang the melody to me as I read, so wasn't much of a creative task for me to sing it out loud. Just wish I was better with the digital recording and mixing thing frown

Cheers
Paul

Hey Paul,

I really enjoyed your song, good melody/lyrical concepts/ with a genuine feeling in your performance.

I agree with Kevin a bit, as I felt a "bridge" type effect with your especially 1st short chorus which I think for we songwriters will get that vibe more than a common listener.

I like what you have and appreciate short choruses as I feel I see many more that are too long. What "might" be worth exploring, is to have an additional 2nd line inserted in between the chorus lines, at least for the first two choruses--I "feel" the next line coming after the 1st, but it doesn't happen and suddenly summarizes. If it were me, I'd add a one more line there to "give it a "middle ground." I can hear it in my mind. It isn't imperative, just how I'm hearing it. No real nits here, just a sug for thought.

I really enjoyed your song and dig your vocal tone!

steady-eddie.

Paul...I liked your vocals on this. Very laid back feel, and I think the music and vocal married well together.

I kept wanting to hear a little harmonica for some reason in there every now and again.

Nice job!

Hey Nelson

How you doing sir? Hope all is well in your camp.

Thanks for the thumbs up on this tune. When I read the lyrics Mike had written, I had to put some music to them, I just loved the way he had it laid out.

Nice job guys. The story flows very nicely. Paul you did a very good job, no need for excuses.

I do agree with Kevin and Eddie. The shortness of the chorus caught me off guard, seemed like it needed another two lines. I think if you just added the no way out lines to the end of all chorusís it would sound better.

Bridges! I love bridges because they can take the song in another direction and really hit home whatís going on. Unfortunately I find them hard to write. Ha but thatís just me. I do the song could use a bridge.

Very nice though.

Paul/Mike,

This is good! I like it the way it is. A gripping performance, Paul.

If you make any changes, my vote would be add the two lines after the 1st verse, too. Just make it 3 short-ish verses that all end in the same way..

A solid write!

Hey thanks for giving this tune your time and attention, much appreciated.

I agree with the harmonica needing to be in the mix, when I redo all the tracks I intend to have harp in the mix as well as harmonies.

Cheers

Really nice song this has just the right amount of laid back feel to it, like the lyrics Mike and Paul vocals really makes the words sound real if you know what i mean.

Hi Iggy

Thanks for investing your time and energy in our song, appreciated.

As far as adding a bridge, I did give it strong consideration, but concluded a bridge wasnt going to add more than it would take from the simple raw emotion in the song, but since seeing a couple folks suggest one, I will give it more thought... maybe I have overlooked something. I will get with Mike and hear his thoughts on the possibility of a bridge.

Thanks for the words of encouragement regarding the recording and mixing, I am very green in that area... But I love to learn, so learn I shall.

Cheers

Really nice write! Loved the that you kept this just the guitar and your vocal. It allowed your lyrics and your vocal (witch was spot on btw) to really shine! I wouldn't change a thing!

Nice write, the music is a great match for the lyric, love the vocal!

I also felt ready for a little bridge in there to bring the melody up at a spot, just a change up, but other than that, this is sounding great from two great songwriters!

I noticed the original posting date and nearly decided to pass on listening... and that would have been a terrible mistake. Mike, I love it's elegant simplicity and Paul did the song's melody and vocal about as good as I can imagine.

Paul, you asked for suggestions regarding an arrangement for the song... and I suppose I would advise not complicating it too much. I would experiment with a flat-top/dobro in parts and possibly have backup singers around the edges here and there... but in all honesty... it needs nothing. It is one of the best I've heard here at JPF. Kudos and Chapeau! ---Dave

Yeah! Don't pretty it up too much. Glad this came around again. Well done.
