A few weeks ago I posted lyric about "Pictures hanging in my mind".....well that one never really felt good to me as I was writing it...for whatever reason. Then over the last weekend my mother was here for a visit, and as we talked one morning, she was telling me about some of the memories she loves about her late husband, and I could see she was getting a little emotional over them......
The "pictures in my mind" concept took on a new meaning to me, and I wrote this song that afternoon...I hope you like it. I will post a recording of it when I get one done. Here is the lyric:
STAY HERE FOR AWHILE Fred Choate 2014 All Rights Reserved
VERSE 1: Those sea green eyes still stop me Just like they did when you and I were kids I could never look at you and not smile I guess it shouldn’t shock me That your auburn hair can take me back again To a windy day out on Ruby Beach We said “I Do” and we took the leap I think I’d like to stay here for awhile….
CHORUS: This hallway where I’m standing holds many memories There’s the photo of you and I on the hood of my old jeep There are lots of things to look at as I walk back thru our life But that picture of you at the county fair Always makes me stop and stare I think I’d like to stay here for awhile….
VERSE 2: It only took a second For that look to fade when the camera turned away But there’s a lifetime of love caught in that frame That worn out denim jacket The ball cap you could never keep on straight It was quite a night, there were lots of them So in love and wild back then I think I’d like to stay here for awhile
CHORUS: This hallway where I’m standing holds many memories There’s the photo of you and I kissing on New Years Eve There are lots of things to look at as I walk back thru our life There you are standing next to me Holding hands by mama’s maple tree I think I’d like to stay here for awhile BRIDGE: Our life together is timeless Standing still behind these panes I find myself with you again As I walk by these wood frames… There’s emptiness throughout this house But this is one place I can smile Every night I walk down this hall These pictures of you, I love them all I think I’d like to stay here for awhile Tag: Those sea green eyes still stop me Just like they did when you are I were kids

Hi Fred. Time comes when you have more to look back on than what's ahead. Seems you have to go over it in your mind before it's gone. I wrote one called "Pages" a couple of years ago on the same theme. It's a good way to keep the memory alive. Vic
It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.
If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.
Yes it is. Lots of songs on this topic. Trying to spin it to where it comes off with an original style is tricky. But the theme is a universal heart felt one that never seems to get too old to sing about.
I'll probably have to scratch the second chorus and just go to the bridge....at the tempo I want to sing it at, it puts me at about 4:20. Taking out the second chorus with a simple melodic change moving into it will cut the song to 3:35. Having the second chorus is cool, but if it drags out too long, the listener is going to lose interest for sure.
This is really nice -- I'm sure it will sound beautiful!
I kept vacillating about the "stay here for a while" line in the verses. At first I thought, should it be "stay THERE for a while" in verse one -- but then I thought...no...then I thought...yes...and I talked to myself every time I got to that line -- LOL!
In the end, I think you made the right choice, so my comment is essentially useless!
My wife said the same thing.....I told her that my thought was that he has come to grips with the woman not being in his life (I sort of left that open ended on about what specifically happened to her, but implied that she has passed away)......so, he since he has come to grips with it, his routine has been "reliving" those memories as he walks down his hallway where all the photos are.....he doesn't need to go back "THERE", he wants to stay "HERE" at this moment and relive those wonderful things.
BUT.....the point is good. I will consider it probably several times as I work this one thru.
